Interviewer: From your point of view, as photo subjects, how were the four members?

Hasebe: Freddie's never off his guard. He has a showiness about him appropriate for a frontman, and understands how a photo should be taken. Brian can be a bit sensitive at times, so you need to know when you can take a photo and when you can't. That was especially true in the early days. As for Roger, he'll joke around in front of the camera when he's in a good mood, but when he loses interest he stops trying. I think he's photogenic in his natural state, though. The one who always gives me a smile and co-operates with me when I point the camera at him is John. I'm appreciative of the fact that he's so easy to work with, but man, he always has the same expression, haha!”

Oh, I know. This drives me crazy. I should've added the "lived 300 yards away from each other as kids but didn't meet before uni" to my maycury lore iceberg because that sounds made up. The Women in Love bit continues to be insane. Like, what do you mean they both watched the same queer-coded movie and were emotionally affected by it? And this happened the year they met? And that the relationship between the two main men ended up paralleling their real life dynamic? Absolutely bonkers.

‘That’s Brian May’s underpants,’ says Grohl, pointing to a pair of green pants above the door. 'We hang them up there like mistletoe. Brian came down to play on the record and he shows up at the studio wearing running shorts, socks and sneakers, with two huge bags. so he puts the bags down and says, “I’m going to change my clothes,” then comes back in these, like, MC Hammer pants, plays the lead, hangs out and then has to split. An hour later, he called and said, “You guys, I left one of my bags in the room, just leave it in there, I’ll come back and get it.” So I was, like, OK, and hung up the phone and looked in there.  

I think this is my favorite picture and anecdote of history.
