Ren can only give a sheepish grin, arms loose around Kaede’s neck as he hikes her through the valley.

“Well,” she tries, “at least we know I’m not allergic!”

Of course, the swelling bruises of combee stings don’t spell anything good. But she’s not suffocating or losing feeling in anything. There’s a whole lot do feeling in her stung leg, and it throbs with the fluttering beat of her heart.

“Sorry, Kaede.” She says again after a moment. “This was supposed to be a fun date but I guess I kinda ruined it. The prof always did say I was, hm, too eager. Meaning reckless.”

She rests her head on Kaede’s shoulder.

“I’m sorry.”

Carrying his sunshine throught the valley he could only smile at her, worry on his face invade him, but he was masking it with a smile that wont last for long... he knew it wasn't her fault that a swarm of Combees was there... nor none of them knew anything of that will happened, only if he was stronger with his team of pokemon and protect her from the danger.... even tho his sister has teach him the basics and trained his team to be good defender to escape for any trouble... he was never a figther just a painter... the guilt was eatting him inside...

Realizing how close they were to each other he just keep looking on the road not to distract himself for such beauty, with red appearing on his cheeks, he said to reasure her "my dearest, no need to be sorry, after all, seen the exciment on your eyes for a new discovery or something you might want to take a photography of, always bring me joy! So dont blame yourself from an accident!"

He was trying to hurry up, he knew he wont be able to carry her for so long, he is not as strong as he used to "after all, what matter is that we get your leg checked, we dont want it to evolve into something worse" looking at her just a few second with a tender smile, sweating on his forehead, before continue looking at the road, to distract her and cover his tought of guilts, he continue "you know... this makes me remember one time something similar happened to me while i was painting" he laughed at his own memory "it involves a hoard of stunkys!"

Ren winces in sympathy, but also giggles. The image that appears in her head isn’t pretty, but it’s a little funny at the same time. Poor Kaede!

“You’ll have to tell me.” Ren hums, placing a soft kiss on what little bare skin is revealed to her. “Did they chase you down to spray you in stinky stuff? Was there a hoard of them?”

Leave it to Kaede to make her feel better. He’s always been sweet in that way. She only hopes he’s not pushing himself by carrying her this whole time.

“We can stop and take a break if you need too.”

Reina stands in the doorway, plain white box in hand. She doesn't look up as she nervously reaches to lift the box's lid to reveal a small, simple cake, decorated in white frosting and fresh fruit arranged in the shape of a heart.

She shakes almost violently as she holds the cake out in offering - but despite the obvious anxiety, she manages to keep her voice relatively steady as she whispers, "A-aishiteru wa."

Ren flounders a moment, caught off guard by the suddenness of Reina’s presence. It’s not unwanted, never unwanted, but it is unexpected. She marvels the cake, so sweet and cute, only to jolt when she hears soft words whispered to her.

Words she learned on her travels meant quite a lot. As did the words she says in reply.

“Watashi boku mo aishiteimasu.” She says, bowing forward to press a kiss to Reina’s forehead. “Come inside. Let’s share the cake!!”

Reina stiffens at the touch of Ren’s lips on her forehead, face and ears flushing pink. When Ren backs up, she looks up, stunned, eyes wide and awed and slowly brimming with tears.

“…You do?” she whispers in hopeful disbelief. Her fingers tighten slightly on the cake box, afraid she might drop it.

Ren hums, peering at Reina from her doorway. She smiles, and nods. “Yep! I did if you did!” She motions her in, carefully grasping her wrist to lead her out of the cold. “And if you did, then we’ve got a lot more to talk about, in whatever language you choose.”

She chuckles, shooing away Nile and Teddy rush around Reina’s legs, thrilled to see her.

“Oh, get! Mi cielo needs to set the cake down!”

Reina lets herself be gently pulled inside, blinking owlishly as she struggles to process the events that are currently unfolding. She has the sense, at least, to keep a firm hold on the cake box, and to watch her step as Ren’s pokemon dart around by her feet.

(She doesn’t know what “mi cielo” means, though she’s pretty sure it sounds like Paldean - which she doesn’t speak. Knowing Ren, though, it’s probably something cheesy and cute.)

Once properly inside, Reina tucks the box beneath her arm and kneels down, balancing on the balls of her feet. She reaches out to give the excited pokemon a few pets and skritches in greeting, cooing soft hellos. With her head ducked, she hopes Ren can’t see the flustered red her face has almost certainly turned.

“I… did,” she murmurs. “Mean it, I mean. A-and I only know the two languages so…” She chuckles awkwardly, letting the rest of the failed joke fade out into nothing. After a moment, she says, “To be honest? I didn’t think I’d get this far…”

(’I didn’t think you’d feel the same,’ remains unsaid.)

“No worries.” Ren assures her, plucking up her croc and shooting him like a basketball towards the beanbag in the living room. Nile squeals, chased down by Teddy, who tackles the croc once he’s landed. The two roll off to tussle some more, drawing the attention of the other Pokémon. They twitter amongst themselves at the sight of the familiar and well loved guest.

“I know a few, but I’m not fluent in any means. I’m conversational at best.” She leads Reina towards the kitchen, then pulls out a chair for her to sit. “Are you still cold? I have some oversized sweaters, if you wanna borrow one!”

The cabinet drawers flutter with the presence of supernatural nosy nellies. Ren glances back towards them, but mostly focuses on Reina.

“I’m surprised you didn’t think you’d get this far!” Ren chirps, giggling to herself as she wanders towards her kettle. “I’m not exactly the subtle type. I figured you already knew about my feelings for you.” She places the kettle on the stove. “And that you never said anything to spare me the mortification.”

Reina lets out a quiet huff, akin to a chuckle. “Still more languages than me,” she says quietly, only half joking. She takes a moment to kick her shoes off near the door before trailing after Ren. Setting the cake box down on the counter, she slips into the offered chair and tucks her feet up under it, crossing her ankles nervously.

Everything feels almost too perfect, like a dream.

(Then again, that’s how Reina usually feels about Ren in general - like she’s stumbled into a soft, cheerful, kind dream; it’s little wonder she’d fallen as hard as she had.)

She watches Ren move around in the kitchen, heart fluttering in her chest at the sight of the woman she’s accidentally handed her heart over to. “Ah, uhm, n-no, I’m alright. Thank you, though…” As much as she would love to snuggle into one of her crush’s sweaters, Reina isn’t certain just what is and isn’t considered “okay” this early into their… can she even call it a relationship just yet? (Legends, she has no idea what she’s doing.)

She’s pulled from her anxious, love-sick thoughts, though, as Ren confesses to a lack of subtlety, making Reina furrow her brows in confusion. “I…?” she starts, struggling to process what she’s just been told. “No, I just thought…” She pauses - what… had she thought, exactly? That Ren was just super friendly? Yes. But also, also.

“…I never picked up on it, I guess,” she finishes. It sounds lame, even to her own ears.

Ren leaves the kettle to boil, considering Reina’s words. Everyone else thought it was obvious. Ren too, considering how goofy she got whenever Reina was around. But maybe, if Reina never saw her being normal, it’d be hard to tell.

“Well, I mean. . !” Ren giggles, embarrassed now. But she knows Reina feels the same, so it’s okay to poke fun. “I don’t just hang off anyone, not like I do you. You get extra affections from me, cause I just love you so much.”

She grins, hands rising to the cold fingers that curl over her shoulder. Haunts may hide behind her, but he purrs, clearly pleased to see Reina.

Ren chews on her lip. The words hang in the air, unable to be taken back. She’s broken into the subject, and there’s no turning back. She has to press forward and admit things aloud.

“I know it’s. . . stupid.” She murmurs, focused on her feet. “But I can’t help it! I can’t change it!”

She kicks at the grass. Rawst has always teased her about having a crush on him, and today is no different. Maybe now she can finally put things to rest.

Mango giggles staring up at renee, moving his hand up to poke Renee’s cheek and then stick his tongue out at them, he moves so he’s can rest his cheek on her stomach, giggling again

"Nope!" Ren chirps, grinning at Mango's weight against her. It's calming and nice. "I've been told I'm pretty bony! So I dunno how comfortable you can be." She laughs about it.

"But you're plenty comfy, I know that!" She tug him closer, and presses her face to his.

Ren sighs, pleased to pieces by her current situation. Sure, there are photos to take and albums to make and emails to write, but things are so cozy in this moment.

Working can wait a while, yeah?

“I’m glad,” she says, hands creeping up to Mango’s sides, “because you won’t be comfy for long~!”

Renee stares back.

Her hands dig into his sides.

Ren holds up her Totodile.

“This is Nile. He’s my boyo and he sleeps with each eye opening and closing independently. He scares the shit out of my Haunter all the time.”

“Oh? That's... Interesting.”

The tall man looked at the vacantly happy face of the totodile then at the woman who was holding it up at him. His shift as a depot agent at the gear station had just ended. He was still clad in his uniform save for his coat that sat tucked in his arm. He looked down at the whimsicott that stood beside him wearing a tiny depot agent hat of their own.

“If it's any consolation, I'm pretty sure this one here doesn't sleep at all. She just waits. For mischief.”

The whimsicott chirped up at him and crossed it's arms, clearly unhappy at the accusations.

Ren gives a happy hum, cooing down at the baby stood by her (work in progress) friend.

“Aw, honey, is he telling lies?” She lowers some, and shows the Whimsicott her Totodile. Nile sniffs the new friend, tail wagging slowly. “Don’t worry. I’m sure a sweet thing like you is a little angel.”

Arson stifled a scoff. He quickly pulled his face back to a neutral expression. She didn't know there was a reason the whimsicott reeked of coconut.

“When she wants to be.” He answered plainly. Arson smiled and extended a hand toward the woman. “Name's Arson.” He gestured to the huffy fluff ball. “This is Whimsy. Careful, that sweet face is a trap.”

Whimsy eyed the totodile before giving it a gentle boop on the nose. It repeated the action a couple times as if trying to see if the creature had an off button.

Nile almost bites, but Ren yanks him back before he can do anything to poor Whimsy. She secures the croc on her shoulders and rises back to full height.

“Nice to meet you, Arson.” Ren shakes his hand happily. “My name’s Renee, but most call me Ren! And this is Nile.” The Totodile waves, then begins to happily pat the top of Ren’s head. “I’m a Pokémon photographer, actually. I heard there were some wild Pokémon in the station. Have you seen anything?”

The rumor specifically said ghost Pokémon, but she’d take anything! The more photos the better, no matter what Pokémon it was.

Arson closed his eyes and scratched at his facial hair, seemingly unbothered by Whimsy almost getting her limb nipped. The little bugger would have had it coming really. "We get all sorts that wander into the tunnels. Patrats mainly."

Arson sighed heavily. "And of course, the army of joltik that like to appear from time to time, courtesy of Boss Emmet."

Another pause. A look of uncertainty crossed his face. "Well... there is tell of something else... but... maybe I shouldn't be talking about it."

Ren is quick to scuttle closer, trying to contain her excitement but still bouncing on her toes. Nile’s head bobs gently with the movement, not that he seems to mind.

“Do tell?” Ren prompts. “If it’s a rare Pokémon, the professor would love to have photos of it! That’s why I’m here! If you can’t say what, can you at least say where? I can handle the rest!!”

Arson looked around conspiratorially before leaning in and speaking quietly.

"Seems there's been tell of a shuppet infestation. The ornery office workers that ride the trains seems to have attracted them."

Arson scratched at the edge of his cap.

"They won't leave, no matter what we do. Eatin's too good. Those workers are a right miserable bunch it seems."

He stood straight and cleared his throat. "Of course, you didn't hear that from me." HIs eyes narrowed. "And if you say anything I will deny it to the death..."

“Beautiful!” Ren gasps, a hand to her cheek. “An affliction of Shuppet! That’s perfect! It’s not often they gather and hang around one spot for long. Oh, I knew the subway would be the perfect destination!”

Ren takes a moment to hug Nile to her chest, the little croc doing a cheer of his own, despite being unsure of what the celebration was about.

“You’re incredible!” She sings, taking one of Arson’s hands into her own. She squeezes it, and shakes it some as she bounces again. “Do you know which train they hang around? If I can get some photos of Shuppet feasting on misery, Mirror will be over the moon!”

"Eh?" Arson was taken a back by the woman's excitement and her grasping his hand so warmly. A slight blush dusted his cheeks. "Uh, well..."

Arson weighed his options. This was his own fault. He chose to tell her about the affliction. The bosses could have his hide for letting such info slip. Not to mention he had not been entirely truthful as to why the shuppet were hanging around. But maybe someone else could succeed where they had failed.

In for a penny, in for a pound.

"Uh... They like to hang around the B station tunnel." He answered meekly. He wondered if he would live to regret this decision.

Curse this world’s access to easy and affordable traveling! Maybe if it was harder jumping from region to region, Pecha would be able to have friends stay for a lot longer…

Maybe it would give her and Ren enough time to finally bring up these unspoken feelings that seem to be between them…

Pecha decides to shove them down for now as she pulls Ren in for one last goodbye hug at the airport, holding her close to her. Maybe she could pour out all her love for her friend in just this embrace. Which might have been a mistake because now Pecha can’t seem to let go. She pulls her head out of the crook of Ren’s neck only to touch foreheads when she can’t pull away just yet.

“I’m going to miss you…” She whispers, lips only inches from Ren’s.

The call of adventure usually makes Ren feel alive. Her bones ache when she keeps still too long, eager to climb and crawl and find new things to marvel and love. Yet, as she stands with Pecha tight in her arms, Ren finds herself dreading the moment she’ll need to let go.

It’s not often she finds a person that feels like home, like how Pecha makes her feel. Like she’s safe, and content, and with all she’d ever need.

Does she need to go on an excursion when Pecha gives her the excitement she so often craves?

Alas, as someone with a job, this isn’t something she can rightfully deny. And with Pecha’s face so close to hers, she can only try to hide how her jaw aches, a telltale sign of oncoming tears.

She doesn’t want to bother, so she smiles, and does what she does best: joke around.

“My invitation still stands.” She singsongs, though it’s not as bright as she’d prefer. “You could come with me. See Alola. Meet my friends there.”

It was raining. A harsh downpour that caused the street to turn into a makeshift river. The perfect kind of rain to watch when you're feeling miserable.

Pecha felt miserable. Of course on the day that was already going awful, she found herself in the middle of a storm on the walk home. Her dress was drenched, the skirt annoyingly clinging to her legs, and her hair stuck to her cheeks and neck. Her boots were soaked. Worst of all, her throat pinched uncomfortably which the tell-tale sign of a soon-to-be panic attack.

She had luckily managed to get under a covering of a store, unluckily to find that the store was closed so she had nowhere warm to wait it all out, so instead she hugged herself during each cold gust that breezed by. As the rain dragged on, Pecha found herself debating whether to continue waiting it out or to brave the weather to get home and warm.

If only she had remembered an umbrella...

Rain. Nile likes rain, a lot. Being a water type makes you that way, makes you want to stomp puddles and use water moves to make the rain dance.

Ren has since grown used to rain.

She walks leisurely behind her Totodile, watching fondly as the little beast races around without wavering in energy. He splashes in a larger puddle, then whips around to pummel Ren with a Water Blast. She winces, but laughs, having been well and truly soaked since she left on their walk that morning.

With hair clinging to her cheeks, Ren glances around at the smeared world around her, and smiles upon seeing a familiar face.

“Hi, Pecha!” She calls with a small wave, only to stagger from another Water Blast, this time to her face.

Seeing the dancing totodile and one of her good friends helps lighten Pecha’s mood a bit. She swallows, before shakily giving a small wave to both of them but makes no attempt to join in on the activities.

Her eyes widen when Nike blasts Ren in the face and she has to cover her little “heh” under the hand she had just waved. Of course Ren had the power to cheer her up a bit when she felt like she was about to break down, even without truly attempting to.

“H-hi…” She almost whispers. She can’t manage much more than that at the moment as she shivers against the wind.

“You’re soaked through!” Ren comments, obviously. Shooing Nile away, she approaches Pecha, and places her hands on her arms, rubbing to help generate friction. “Frozen! We gotta get you home!”

She pauses, glancing up and down the street again, trying to remember distances from their current location. Is her home closer? Is Pecha’s? She’s not sure what to do, so she gives a sheepish smile, scratching her cheek.

“My place is a quick run that way.” She points towards the way she came. “But if yours is closer, we can go there!”

Lightning cracks across the sky, purple and illuminating the pair. Nile jumps from the low rumble that follows, but Ren just smiles.

“We should light a fire,” she says, not considering that perhaps Pecha would prefer to be alone, “and you’ll warm up! If we go to mine, you can have some of my clothes to not catch a cold and all. I’ll make tea too! Sweet tea! How they taught me in Paniola Town, in Alola!”

“M-my place is kinda far so…I think I can run…” Pecha subconsciously leans towards Ren’s body heat, her cheeks turning slightly pink. She feels bad for taking advantage of her friend’s hospitality. The thought of someone taking care of her during this rough patch felt nice though…

Her eyes close for a second to keep a dam on the river of tears that threaten to build up and spill.

“Th-that sounds nice…” She finally responds, voice slightly pinched.

The pitch Ren can hear. She wonders, briefly, why Pecha is feeling so upset. Is it the rain? Something else? There’s sadly no time to ask, not with her about to catch her death in this cold.

“Come close!” Ren slips her rain jacket off, throwing it over Pecha to shield her from most of the rain. She throws her arm across her shoulders next, keeping her friend close. “Let’s run! Nile, this way!”

The Totodile is quick to follow their run into the rain, singing loudly as they go.

He was still clad in his uniform save for his coat that sat tucked in his arm. He looked down at the whimsicott that stood beside him wearing a tiny depot agent hat of their own.

“If it's any consolation, I'm pretty sure this one here doesn't sleep at all. She just waits. For mischief.”

The whimsicott chirped up at him and crossed it's arms, clearly unhappy at the accusations.

Ren gives a happy hum, cooing down at the baby stood by her (work in progress) friend.

“Aw, honey, is he telling lies?” She lowers some, and shows the Whimsicott her Totodile. Nile sniffs the new friend, tail wagging slowly. “Don’t worry. I’m sure a sweet thing like you is a little angel.”

Arson stifled a scoff. He quickly pulled his face back to a neutral expression. She didn't know there was a reason the whimsicott reeked of coconut.

“When she wants to be.” He answered plainly. Arson smiled and extended a hand toward the woman. “Name's Arson.” He gestured to the huffy fluff ball. “This is Whimsy. Careful, that sweet face is a trap.”

Whimsy eyed the totodile before giving it a gentle boop on the nose. It repeated the action a couple times as if trying to see if the creature had an off button.

Nile almost bites, but Ren yanks him back before he can do anything to poor Whimsy. She secures the croc on her shoulders and rises back to full height.

“Nice to meet you, Arson.” Ren shakes his hand happily. “My name’s Renee, but most call me Ren! And this is Nile.” The Totodile waves, then begins to happily pat the top of Ren’s head. “I’m a Pokémon photographer, actually. I heard there were some wild Pokémon in the station. Have you seen anything?”

The rumor specifically said ghost Pokémon, but she’d take anything! The more photos the better, no matter what Pokémon it was.

Arson closed his eyes and scratched at his facial hair, seemingly unbothered by Whimsy almost getting her limb nipped. The little bugger would have had it coming really. "We get all sorts that wander into the tunnels. Patrats mainly."

Arson sighed heavily. "And of course, the army of joltik that like to appear from time to time, courtesy of Boss Emmet."

Another pause. A look of uncertainty crossed his face. "Well... there is tell of something else... but... maybe I shouldn't be talking about it."

Ren is quick to scuttle closer, trying to contain her excitement but still bouncing on her toes. Nile’s head bobs gently with the movement, not that he seems to mind.

“Do tell?” Ren prompts. “If it’s a rare Pokémon, the professor would love to have photos of it! That’s why I’m here! If you can’t say what, can you at least say where? I can handle the rest!!”

Ren holds up her Totodile.

“This is Nile. He’s my boyo and he sleeps with each eye opening and closing independently. He scares the shit out of my Haunter all the time.”

“Oh? That's... Interesting.”

The tall man looked at the vacantly happy face of the totodile then at the woman who was holding it up at him. His shift as a depot agent at the gear station had just ended. Ren winks. “If I can prove that you’re interesting, I get something from you. If I can’t prove it, you get something from me. Winner chooses what they want. Simple!”

She shows her hands, palms empty, a show of no harm. “What do ya say?”

Reina frowns slightly, though it looks more like a pout.

“I guess… depends on what you want?” she asks. Sparing a glance at the relatively empty cafe, she hum in thought and unties her apron, setting it aside. “Okay, I’ll bite. How you want to go about this?”

If nothing else it would be a good way to kill some time, and the stranger seems pretty amiable. (And, Reina thinks with a quiet snort of laughter, if things go wonky, she can easily sneak out the back.)

Reina isn’t sure how to feel about the way her stomach sinks a little when Ren appears to back off. She has to fight back the frown that wants to creep over her face despite how cute Ren’s flustered reaction was. (And cute? Really? Reina has no idea why the word ‘cute’ is the first thing that popped into her head for Ren’s blush, but… she finds she isn’t upset.)

“You don’t have to battle,” she says before she can think too hard on it. “I mean, ah…”

(What is she doing right now? She has no idea. But maybe because Ren - for all the earlier eagerness - suddenly seems… not dejected, exactly, but something.)

Her mouth twisting to the side as she struggles to parse her own weird thought process at the moment, Reina huffs softly and says, “I work close tonight and the battle shift tomorrow, but I’m usually on break around 2:00 if you… wanted to drop by again…”

Ren flusters a bit more, grinning shyly.

"Oh!" She fumbles her own fingers a bit. That's a relief. Battling is something Ren truly isn't great at. Sure, Birdie is a buff ass bug, but the rest of her team? Not great. But then again, she'd hate to be weird, or god forbid, stalkerish.

"Oh, oh, um. . . Drop by? To. . ." Her voice gets a little squeaky, shoulders rising. "Battle?"

She's officially off her game, but figures this is as good a time as any to be honest.

"I'm not really a battler." Ren admits, embarrassed (maybe even ashamed, but she doesn't linger long on that). "I'm afraid I won't be a great rival or anything like that."

Too caught up in her flustered feelings, she seems to miss that perhaps Reina wasn't asking for a battle.

“I will always protect you!”

There is a swooping in Reina’s chest that feels like that weightless split second between tripping and landing face-first on the ground, and she feels her expression soften to something far more vulnerable than she’d like. She turns her face away so that Ren doesn’t see the moment of fragility.

Reina gives a breathy chuckle, weak and faintly wet. “Heh. Ren, that’s… you’re making me blush, come on now.”

(She hates the way her lip trembles, the way she has to blink several times to keep everything in.)

Still looking away, she reaches over and rests her hand atop Ren’s own, giving it a light squeeze. It sounds…nice, the idea of being protected; she hopes it never comes to that, but it’d be nice. To not feel like she has to go it alone.

Ren puffs her chest out, hoping to distract from the heavy heat searing her cheeks and boiling her ears.

“Of course!” She announces loudly, as though to tell the whole world. Her volume control has always been bad when she’s excited. “You’re my queen! And I’m your loyalest knight!”

Ren hops to her feet, spins, and scoops Reina into her arms. She rocks back with the weight, laughing.

“Majesty!” She gasps. “Your beauty doth blinds me!”

Cheeks burning, Reina drops her face into her hands and lets out a muffled scream, even as Ren’s arms wrap around her.

(Ren as a knight, she can easily see - strong and beautiful and brimming with determination. But a Queen? Her???)

“Reeeeeeeennnnn!!!!!” she pleads, though there is laughter in her voice. “Stooopppppp!!!!”

“I cannot stop!” Ren announces to the world, beaming as she marches Reina around. She sways and swings, unused to carrying a person, but still steady. She grips tight, making sure there’s no doubt that she has Reina secure against her. “Not when my beautiful queen doth doubt me!”

She snickers, well aware of Reina’s habit to dodge compliments. She won’t allow it to continue, however.

“I am your loyal knight, majesty.” Ren says, leaning her head against Reina’s. “I would never lie to you. Your beauty outshines the moon, the sun, and the stars above. You’re the only celestial body I worship.”

She carefully deposits her darling on the couch, and kneels next to her. Ren takes Reina’s hand and presses her lips to her knuckles.

“My queen.”

Reina yelps - giggling - as Ren scoops her up and begins to carry her like she’s something precious. She wraps her arms around Ren’s neck, burying her face in the other woman’s collarbone to hide the blush now blazing across her cheeks; it does nothing to hide the way her neck and ears are tinged with pink.

(She buries her face further as Ren continues to speak, hoping she can’t feel the few traitorous tears that leak from Reina’s eyes at the words of lighthearted devotion. Or the way Reina’s breathing hitches slightly, caught in her throat as her heart stutters, so unused to the onslaught of affection.)

As she’s set down once more, Reina moves her free hand up to cover her still-burning face, peering down at her girlfriend over her fingertips, trying to discretely brush away the lingering moisture from her lashes.

She swallows thickly, watching Ren kiss her stolen hand. For a moment she doesn’t react, heart thudding against the back of her ribs. Then, slowly, she lowers her hand from her face and reaches out to lay it gingerly on Ren’s shoulder. She leans in, pressing a shaking kiss to her “knight’s” forehead.

“Sh… shouldn’t that make you my king, then?” she whispers as she sits back. She offers her girlfriend a tiny, shy smile.

Ren let's out an intrigued little noise.

"Ooh, that does sound fun, but I think a knight is far sexier!" She flexes, not that there's really all that much to show off. She's too lean to really show off anything. "Don't you agree? A queen and her knight, willing to lay down her life in service to her noble."

Ren sighs dreamily, leaning against Reina's lap as she cradles her hand to her fluttering heart. "How romantic does that sound? I wanna be a knight so bad." She peers up at Reina through her lashes, expression awfully innocent. "Wouldn't you like that? Me, decked in armor with a sword, at the ready to serve you whenever you need me?"

Reina stands in the doorway, plain white box in hand. She doesn't look up as she nervously reaches to lift the box's lid to reveal a small, simple cake, decorated in white frosting and fresh fruit arranged in the shape of a heart.

She shakes almost violently as she holds the cake out in offering - but despite the obvious anxiety, she manages to keep her voice relatively steady as she whispers, "A-aishiteru wa."

Ren flounders a moment, caught off guard by the suddenness of Reina’s presence. It’s not unwanted, never unwanted, but it is unexpected. She marvels the cake, so sweet and cute, only to jolt when she hears soft words whispered to her.

Words she learned on her travels meant quite a lot. As did the words she says in reply.

“Watashi boku mo aishiteimasu.” She says, bowing forward to press a kiss to Reina’s forehead. “Come inside. Let’s share the cake!!”

Reina stiffens at the touch of Ren’s lips on her forehead, face and ears flushing pink. When Ren backs up, she looks up, stunned, eyes wide and awed and slowly brimming with tears.

“…You do?” she whispers in hopeful disbelief. Her fingers tighten slightly on the cake box, afraid she might drop it.

Ren hums, peering at Reina from her doorway. She smiles, and nods. “Yep! I did if you did!” She motions her in, carefully grasping her wrist to lead her out of the cold. “And if you did, then we’ve got a lot more to talk about, in whatever language you choose.”

She chuckles, shooing away Nile and Teddy rush around Reina’s legs, thrilled to see her.

“Oh, get! Mi cielo needs to set the cake down!”

Reina lets herself be gently pulled inside, blinking owlishly as she struggles to process the events that are currently unfolding. She has the sense, at least, to keep a firm hold on the cake box, and to watch her step as Ren’s pokemon dart around by her feet.

(She doesn’t know what “mi cielo” means, though she’s pretty sure it sounds like Paldean - which she doesn’t speak. Knowing Ren, though, it’s probably something cheesy and cute.)

Once properly inside, Reina tucks the box beneath her arm and kneels down, balancing on the balls of her feet. She reaches out to give the excited pokemon a few pets and skritches in greeting, cooing soft hellos. With her head ducked, she hopes Ren can’t see the flustered red her face has almost certainly turned.

“I… did,” she murmurs. “Mean it, I mean. A-and I only know the two languages so…” She chuckles awkwardly, letting the rest of the failed joke fade out into nothing. After a moment, she says, “To be honest? I didn’t think I’d get this far…”
