you wouldn’t last an hour in the asylum where they raised me
give me a second i just woke up. first things first, as someone who’s favorite character is will (plotwise and kinwise speaking) i think you worded this out beautifully in the most tragic way possible. that said, second, how dare you keep it in the tags. and third, (now that the show is finally over) and this might be a little controversial but this was will’s coming out scene to me. this one stuck with me in ways the one from s5 probably won’t, only time will tell. castle byers you will always be famous in this household
Ok YES but ALSO. It’s not just about him being gay, it’s also about his trauma from the Upside Down. In S3 Will feels so isolated from his friends not just because he can’t relate to them getting girlfriends and all that stuff, but also because he feels left behind developmentally. He spent the past two years of his childhood dealing with the Upside Down and being possessed, and he’s now in the recovery stage, and he just wants some familiarity and to go back to what he knows. His friends are all growing up and moving on with their lives, but Will is still stuck in the childhood that was stolen from him, and none of them understand that. Him being gay obviously adds on to this feeling of isolation and being left behind a LOT, but it’s not the only thing that Will is dealing with in this scene.
In fact, I’m not sure if he’s even fully aware of his feelings for Mike yet. Maybe he is, that’s entirely up to interpretation as the show never confirms when he realised he was gay/in love with Mike, but I personally headcanon that Mike saying “it’s not my fault you don’t like girls” may have been a catalyst for this realisation. I definitely think that he knew subconsciously for a while (maybe even most of his life due to how Hawkins and his dad treated him), but this is where he really accepts that it’s real and isn’t going to change. He doesn’t like girls, no matter how much he wishes he could.
I really wish this moment didn’t just get brushed under the rug by the Mind Flayer reemerging, it should have been further addressed in S3.
all of this ^^
i honestly don't think i would be wrong to say castle byers was at least in the top 3 of noah's best acting performances on stranger things.
the crux of the scene is will destroying the place that gives him comfort because he thinks he has to, because it doesn't give him comfort anymore.
that's why it's all the more important in season 5 that will learned he didn't have to lose the people he loved. they'll still be there for him even though he'll never bond over girls with them, even though he's different than them in that way and even though he's grieving the childhood that was cut short.
"most valid crashout" but not because mike argued with him. "most valid crashout" because it's all of will's fears up to that point coming to a head in a powertul scene where he reckons with the fact that he'll never be the child he was again.
SOMEONE TELL MIKE HE’S GAY

Being crazy about a piece of media for any amount of time will leave a weird mark on you forever because years later you’ll see someone posting something about it like “can we talk about this frame” and you’ll be like “ah that frame. i know all about that frame. I was once a scholar of that frame.”
me in ten years when a stumble across a screenshot of a scene in one particular pizza van
love me anyway

This video and my brother's persuasion made me decide to add a very loud incorrect buzzer every time someone in Next to Normal doesn't tell the truth. I'm not even 2 minutes in and I've already got more than 7 buzzer noises.
Do you want a little help Alex?
