dan goodman became a brilliant dad when diana moved out. yeah, he was hurting, and yeah he was still trying to handle his grief, but he was going to therapy and healing a little bit. so once he didn't have diana to look after (because he looks after other people to push away his own pain), he saw all of natalie's pain. and i am not a believer in an awkward dan with nat. that is his daughter. he raised that kid. they love each other so much. let him be happy and easygoing when it's just the two of them. he hasn't got the invisible pressure that he was putting on himself of having to look after everyone and make everything better, and he just became himself. so he talked to and went out with nat. he learnt what she liked beyond piano and henry. he got to know henry properly. they hung out, just the three of them. he did whatever natalie wanted to. they ate dinner at ridiculous hours and had chocolate for breakfast. they went to the theatre and went on walks and they healed together. he had so much love and attention to give, and when it wasn't directed towards diana, natalie realised how much he loved her and how easy it was to be around him.
