Welcome to Moony’s Midlife Crisis Fest 2026!

Last year’s run was a tremendous success, with 78 creators, 105 works, and 1.2mil words! Additionally, the wonderful community we’ve built with you—the writers, the artists, the enjoyers—remains dear to our hearts! We hope to repeat this amazing experience this year, with old and new friends alike!

To anyone new to MMCF, here’s our spiel: Do you like your Remus Lupin pathetic? Do you like him old and a little sad? Do you like him when he's a recluse and a bit weird? If you said yes to any of these, then you'll love Moony's Midlife Crisis Fest!

‘Why are you staring at the mirror like a banshee’s howling in your ear?’

Sirius leans against the door frame like he was born to it, like pureblood glory is tied directly to the ratio of suitability for rangy limbs and ink-black hair, as though Walburga Black’s portrait screams out of rage that her son walks into so many rooms the wrong way, like the Black family crest is French for ‘in door frames we stand.’

And then there’s Remus, whose skin may as well be sloughing off his face for the way it brandishes every worry Remus has ever had. Maybe Gilderoy’s right to have those shipments of doxy stingers sent to his ward every fortnight; he’s certainly got a youthful glow about him in the Prophet’s society pages. Not that he frequents the Prophet’s society pages. At this moment, with Sirius still standing in the door frame, brows increasingly furrowed the longer Remus’s inner monologue continues, Remus might not admit to the very old person behaviour of reading at all.

Merlin, is Sirius fit. He’s just gotten back from the latest Shacklebolt bat mitzvah – in a society of ten thousand strong, even The Weird Sisters can’t be picky – and he’s still dressed in the tight trousers and sheer top that surely made Queensley (family name, of course) swoon at the bimah.

Meanwhile, Remus is so grey he might as well already be a ghost. He’s so grey that he could slip into the society pages himself. It’s not just his hair, either. It’s the whole pallor; his overall energy. When students talk about the Grey Ghost, they probably mean him, and he just hasn’t realized that because he’s too busy floating around the school, retracing the steps of the saddest, greyest man who ever (unfortunately) lived.

And, like they always do, the thoughts centre on Sirius. Remus can’t help but think of him. Can’t help but wonder if he’s awake too, if he’s thinking about Remus too, if his thumb keeps catching on the new, strange, life-altering piece of metal curling over his ring finger too. Remus can’t help but wonder if, maybe, he were to stand, were to press his ear to the wall, might he hear Sirius’ pulse and know from the rhythm of it, yes or no; maybe or definitely; always or never.

Everything feels a little louder at this time of night—what exact hour it is, Remus is not sure—the smallest things echoing around the hollow quiet of an emptied room. Remus’ breath whistles on every dragging inhale. His most banal thoughts scrape like chair legs hauled across wooden floors. Every minute shift of his limbs rustles his makeshift bedding like sudden rainfall.

So, it is especially ironic that Remus doesn’t hear the footsteps. That he’s quite so startled when Sirius’ sleep-thickened voice rolls into the space like spilt treacle: “Moons?”

Remus’ pulse leaps, pressing into his skin as if to escape where his body keeps it trapped. “Fuck,” he breathes, a hand leaping to his chest like it might corral his heart back into stasis. “You scared me.”

“Sorry,” Sirius garbles, not sounding very sorry at all, his mouth hinged wide open around a yawn, nose scrunched up as though to make more room for the stretch.

Remus’ mouth curls of its own accord, an amused huff drifting out of his nose. “No, you’re not.”

Sirius laughs. Shrugs. “It’s possible.”

Silence settles back into place between them, stubborn dust on a surface just cleaned. Remus ought to brush it away; ought to ask: Alright?—What’s up?—Do you want me?—Do you need me?

hi! im super excited to take part in this fest, and i saw on the guidebook that i should have received an email telling me which prompts i have been confirmed for but i never received one :( I did sign up on time and i put several backup options. Is there any other way to see what prompt i will be writing?

We've had quiet a few message from people (mainly via @moonyfest) about issues accessing the server and invite links not working.

We just want to remind people that this is an age restricted server and due to multiple instances of minors attempting to join the server, that for people's protection it is unlikely we will be changing this any time soon.

My apologies for the inconvenience, but I am utterly jonesing to get on the discord server where this fest is being hosted and I have tried an obscene variety of links and literally all of them are 'invalid'. I am technologically illiterate so there's a good chance that I am the problem here! However I'm desperate to get more involved in this fest and would love to chat to the other enthusiasts! So please can I have a working link? Or some advice on how else to get on there?

PS: Infinite thanks for modding this epic fest. Writing for my chosen prompt is supremely enjoyable and I'm so excited to read all the wonderful works that come out of this :).

Do fics have to be from Remus' pov or can it be from his love interest's pov (while still being Remus centric of course)?

⚠️ Important:

Before filling the form, have a double check of the prompt list and make sure you have the correct prompt ID, as most prompts have been renumbered since prompting closed. Note as well that two prompts submitted were removed from the prompt list because they asked for Remus to be younger than 30, which is contradictory to the fest's premise.

Although prompts can be claimed up to two times for fic and art each, we suggest you have a couple of back up prompts you'd like to claim to avoid any disappointment!

Claiming and confirmation are automated this year, which means you should get your confirmation email pretty soon after submitting the form. If you do not get an email within a couple hours, please reach out to us via a Discord ticket or our email: [email protected]

We're excited to announce that prompting is here!

You can submit your prompt using this form.

Please note that we will be capping this year's submissions at 300 prompts. We encourage you to check the prompt list before submitting to avoid duplicates or prompts that are too similar to one another.

Prompting will be open until 20 March and claiming will start 24 March.

All prompts are available to be viewed in our prompt browser as soon as they are submitted.

At the bottom of the spreadsheet, you'll find four sections/tabs that you can use to navigate the prompts more easily.

ships alphabetical (no dead dove) - non dead dove prompts only, sorted by ship in alphabetical order

The Purpose of the tabs is to allow creators more control over the content they view. Artists and writers are both, of course, welcome to claim any prompt. The purpose of the Art Friendly tab is to help artists find more suitable prompts, but does not restrict either form of creation.
