So obviously lots of people have gone on about the 'you can't spell pride month without demon' shit, but I wanted to add a little extra flavor, and my awesome girlfriend suggested it fading into rainbows so I went from there.

anybody else wake up in the morning sometimes and think ‘today i think i’ll write some truly horrific shit’ or is that just me
its always "what are your plans for the future, you should really be planning for the future" and never "wow that character you're obsessed with sounds so cool can you explain them to me. im sure you get them more than anyone else"
Why do people stop commenting on fics if they’re more than a week or two old? Please comment on old fics. Tell me you like my one shot from 2014. Tell me you like my old multi-chap I finished in 2016 that I spent a year writing. I will be fucking thrilled.
Fics are not social media posts. There’s no “stalking” someone’s “old posts”. They’re meant to be found and enjoyed years down the line. No need to be nervous.
I reblog this message every time it comes across my dash because it’s true. And also:
When I first started writing fanfic, back in the mid 1990s (yes! the late twentieth century!) one of the discouraging things about it was that people treated fanfic as if it was disposable. It seemed like what most readers wanted was a constant stream of new content, whereas I tend to produce one big work every 6-12 months. It made me sad that people seemed to think there was no point to re-reading or saving old fic. There is no sell-by date on fiction! It does not get out of order! It can still work even years or decades later!
So yeah, I have stories up at ao3 that are literally a quarter-century old, and every time someone leaves a comment on them I am very pleased to get it. We get attached to our stories and it cheers us up to see that they are still finding readers. It means that they are still ‘alive,’ in some way.
AO3 is not social media, it’s (essentially) a library.
You’re meant to engage with any and all of it, regardless of age.

Beep boop! I look for accidental haiku posts. Sometimes I mess up.
Testing: Shorten long posts in your dash
Hello.
We are testing out an optional setting to shorten long posts on the dashboard. We’re initially rolling this feature out to a smaller number of you on web and iOS starting today, March 28, with an Android release to follow soon. We realize this is a significant change to how you interact with your dash. So this will be an optional feature you can easily turn off anytime by visiting your dashboard settings and toggling “Shorten long posts” off.
What does this mean?
Long posts can crowd your dashboard. Some of you find them so annoying that you filter out the tag #long post. This means you could be missing out on posts you might love that also happen to be tagged as #long post. This setting shortens posts to offer a content preview instead—with the option to unfurl the full post by clicking “Expand” on web, or opening the post in a new screen by tapping “View Post” on iOS and Android. Here is a preview of how your dashboard will now appear on web before expanding the full post.
Why are we doing this?
Some of you have told us that long posts can feel like they take over your feed or make it harder to skip uninteresting posts. This feature will allow you to scroll through content more smoothly while also encouraging meaningful interactions—promoting the art, culture, and content you love, curate, and create.
Any questions? Then please drop us a line on @wip or Support, and keep an eye out for more changes on the aptly-named @changes.
We are celebrating this dashing doctor’s birthday. What would you get him for a present?

PSA regarding tumblr’s latest Censorship Nightmare
For those of you who haven’t seen this announcement, tumblr recently made some changes to the iOS version of the app, purportedly to comply with Apple’s content guidelines. These changes took effect on Dec 21, starting in version 22.5.1 of the iOS app. As some of you may recall, Apple’s strict guidelines were the driving force for the infamous Great Purge of 2018, which coincidentally also happened around this time of year, but it seems banning all of the female-presenting nipples wasn’t good enough for Apple.
Below is a summary of the important changes. Note that these changes technically ONLY affect those using the iOS app. If you’re accessing tumblr through a different app or operating system (Google Chrome, Android app, etc) it won’t affect you directly but it will affect your followers who use iOS so you should definitely be aware of it.
The list of banned tags has been expanded. As before, there’s no way to know which words or phrases have been banned until you try searching for them, in which case you’ll either get no search results or the following message: “This content has been hidden because of potentially suggestive or explicit content.” You may think this doesn’t concern you if you don’t post explicit material, but do not make the mistake of expecting the banned tags to be logical or reasonable. I’ve already encountered multiple completely innocuous posts (random fandom gifsets) that seem to be hidden on iOS for no discernible reason.
Blogs that have been flagged as explicit can no longer be viewed. Previously, flagged blogs just had their posts hidden from searches, but if you knew the username you could still visit it after clicking through a warning about sensitive content. Now you can’t access it at all.
Likes and reblogs from blogs that have been flagged will no longer show up in your notes. This one won’t affect most people’s user experience as much as the others, but it does mean you may be missing notes. It’s unclear if likes and reblogs from flagged blogs will still count towards the overall note total (and only be missing from the activity feed and note viewer) but I suspect that’s the case.
THE BIG ONE: ANY POST TAGGED WITH A BANNED TAG WILL NO LONGER SHOW UP ON YOUR DASHBOARD. Previously, if you tagged a post with a banned word or phrase (even if the words were used inside another tag), that post would not show up in searches, but your followers would still be able to see it on their dashboard. Now those posts are hidden from your own followers as well. This includes both original posts and reblogs. And if that wasn’t bad enough, here’s the real kicker: even if you don’t tag something with one of the banned words, if the OP used a banned tag, any reblogs of that post will not show up on anyone’s dashboard (on the iOS app). The only saving grace here, and I hate to even call it that, is that the blocked posts are still visible if you visit a blog directly or if you have post notifications turned on.
As usual, tumblr was extremely unclear and evasive about all of this in their official announcement. Not surprising, of course, since if more people were aware of these new draconian tactics I can’t imagine there wouldn’t be more of an uproar about it. Tumblr claims that these changes are somewhat temporary and that they are currently working on something that will allow for a less restricted iOS experience, but they refuse to say what that something is and when it will be implemented. And let’s just say, considering their track record, I’m not hopeful.
All of this is horrible and infuriating for many reasons, but the worst part is how insanely counterproductive it is to creating the “safe” environment tumblr (or more specifically Apple) supposedly wants.
Tags have always been used for both blog organization and filtering purposes. Tagging posts with triggers and content warnings is a common practice that gives users the ability to filter out content they may find upsetting or just don’t don’t want to see for whatever reason. By choosing to ban a bunch of unlisted “sensitive content” tags, all they’re doing is encouraging people who want to share that kind of content to come up with alternative less well-known tags or simply not tag that content at all anymore if they want it to show up on their follower’s dashboards, thereby making it more likely for someone to encounter it when they didn’t want to.
So really, with all of the alleged concern for safety and “protecting the children,” all they’ve done is make tumblr less safe for everyone. Typical.
A growing list of banned tags for anyone who might be curious.
This doesnt just mean explicit content. Its including words that are in no way explicit!
Just throwing this out here: if you are homophobic or trans phobic dont interact with my blog. I dont post much from here as it's just my personal consumer blog, but you arent welcome here.
i think its up to us, as a society, to take those OC question prompts that you always see and fill them out ourselves like in the halcyon livejournal days rather than demurely waiting for our followers to send us a handful of numbers
like dont be coy, we all want to fill out the full thing. be the change you want to see in the world.
For everyone who likes to post very long content with no regard for our poor dashes and our community that reposts everything 8 times, here is a quick and very easy tutorial on how to add this “keep reading” on both PC and mobile!
On mobile:

but seriously shout out to bi girls who want boyfriends/husbands or have boyfriends/husbands and love them a lot I know people give you shit for "choosing the straight side" and saying like, "oh well society expects you to be in relationships with men" as an excuse to like, be rude or exclude you from wlw/LGBT spaces and conversations and dismiss your complaints about how bi women are treated etc. you're fucking awesome and you deserve to be in community spaces and to feel safe and welcomed, and you shouldnt have to feel guilty because people think your love is somehow less radical or whatever the fuck. i hope you have a lovely healthy relationship with a boyfriend/husband and he makes you feel happy and loved and accepted.
why is tiktok recommending me shit abt how referencing off of someone else’s art is art theft. it is not. young artists just do that pretty heavily which can be awkward to see but its still not a crime and unless theyre actually tracing then i genuinely just do not care. they’ll learn as they keep drawing, stop regurgitating deviantart drama at me
part of being an artist is recognizing that nothing is original and someone will always be inspired by ur work to some degree. nothing ive created is original and it never will be. literally who cares if ur ocs have similar color palettes i just Dont Care bro
“i dont want people taking heavy inspiration from my artwork” congrats! you literally do not get a say in this! cope
I'm in creative writing and art classes in college. The curriculum includes teaching how to refrence/recreate the art and writing of people you idolize in order to get better. That's why you see art students in museums literally copying paintings. You have to go through the motions that already work to find the method that resonateswith you. For writing, my professors recommend writing a scene from your favorite novel in the style of the author, but write it from another character's perspective. Write new conversations with their characters. Take their characters, dump them into another story, then write (again, in the authors style) how they react to the new environment.
Recreate paintings. Study drawing by redoing a piece you like. Add onto art following their style. It's just part of learning. For all forms of art, you start with proven methods, find what comes easily to you versus what's hard, things you want to keep and things you want to change, and eventually that becomes your style.
Think of musicians. No 6th grader picks up an instrument and starts composing music. They play music written by others, do exercises organized by someone else, and listen to other people's music. Only after copying other people's work for a long time do most musicians start making their own music, if they ever do!
This doesn't mean you can copy something, slap your name on it, and sell prints. The work you copy are for practice and learning. Rebranding someone else's work as yours is wrong. Referencing and copying for your private study sessions is encouraged and is the best way to learn. If someone is refrencing your art, it's a huge compliment.
There's an awesome book by writer, author, and casual musician Austin Kleon called "Steal Like An Artist" that is about getting better by "stealing" from other people. He also has a great book called "Keep Going" that gives suggestions on overcoming writers block, lack of inspiration, artistic plateaus, and self consciousness about your work. I highly recommend both. Here's a few quotes I like from the book that pertain to this topic.
"We want you to take from us. We want you, at first, to steal from us, because you can't steal. You will take what we give you and you will put it in your own voice and that's how you will find your voice. And that's how you begin. And then one day someone will steal from you." - Francis Ford Coppola
"The only art I'll ever study is stuff I can steal from." - David Bowie
"What is originality? Undetected plagarism." - William Ralph Inge
"Steal from anywhere that resonates with inspiration or fuels your imagination. Devour old films, new films, music, books, paintings, photographs, poems, dreams, random conversations, architecture, bridges, street signs, trees, clouds, bodies of water, light and shadows. Select only things to steal from that speak directly to your soul. If you do this, your work (and theft) will be authentic." - Jim Jarmusch
"Start copying what you love. Copy copy copy copy. At the end of the copy you will find yourself." - Yohji Yamamoto
