I just love love the idea of r/s being exceptions to each other. passive, conflict avoidant remus demanding that sirius listen to him when they fight and impulsive, confronting sirius calming down and taking the heat coming from remus cause "woah he'd never ever lose control for nothing!" but also, sirius, the infallible, being vulnerable with remus and admitting to being lost here and there!
i hope it's okay to preserve your tags here because you've articulated this specific, vital aspect of their dynamic so well. that their relationship is as noteworthy, romantic, and meaningful as it is in the text because it shows how far they're willing to compromise for each other, in a way that is endlessly forgiving of not only the other person but also of themselves! they are each other's redemption! tangentially, this is also why i find it hard to believe that either of them would hold a grudge (post-poa especially) or manufacture drama in a 1:1 comparison to ron/hermione or whatever is the most recent fanon template for romance that fans will happily apply to r/s and pretend is canon-compliant. in fact, their biggest source of drama literally stems from how unconditionally compromised they are for each other, where protecting each other despite suspecting the other had thrown in with voldemort and was willing to (successfully) murder their closest friend and his family is actually a hugely valid source of guilt. to the point where it kind of doesn't even matter that both were innocent, like just look what they are willing to let each other get away with (this is specifically in keeping with the implication that sirius didn't tell anyone that he suspected remus in the first war and that he didn't confront remus personally either, despite sirius's double standard for peter and his tendency towards proactive justice, especially when his family is in danger).
when i first got into r/s, i was briefly convinced that there were so many odds stacked against their relationship, so many reasons to give up on each other, that it didn't make sense in a canon-compliant reading. but the truth is that this is actually the point, the most compelling aspect of their ship. they hold onto each other so tightly in spite of everything, even when it hurts, even when it doesn't make sense, for the simple fact that they simply love each other...like, they just do. they choose to balance each other on purpose. they grow as people and step out of their comfort zones for each other. they are the definition of "i love you on purpose."
need a name for the surreal fandom experience of reading a post that challenges widely held popular fanon in a way that seems controversial to say and yet is literally just a more accurate and compelling reading of the text
happy birthday to this 13 year old
i don't even like reblogging hp-unrelated posts from ppl due to the url and blog content because as someone who has been posting hp i justifiably open myself up to the indisputable kicking_sand_in_his_eyes.img, i can't imagine being so bold as to write a full comment referencing hp, j/egulus no less, on a post for a totally unrelated fandom like it'd be bad enough if it wasn't harry fucking potter like it's rude and weird regardless but esp when it's hp like esp on tumblr that's the equivalent of walking up to someone to sneeze directly into their face đ
âWe know nothing about canon Remus-â
My brother in Christ we know he sleeps with his mouth slightly open
He snorts in his sleep sometimes
That even tho his belongings are falling apart the knots and stitches he puts around things are meticulously neat and tidy (controlling what he can control)
That after a full moon heâs so exhausted he can sleep all day
His voice is hoarse
He can do (or at least itâs implied) wandless magic to create flames
His first response to an attacker is to talk to it (and be real sassy with it)
Heâs competent enough to get rid of said attacker
He gives away the cure to dementors but doesnât seem to eat any himself
He smiles a whole lot, considering
He can go from asleep to perfectly alert in seconds
Heâs sickly looking to the point âa good curse would finish him offâ
Heâs likely thin
He has his name on his suitcase but the lettering is old and worn suggesting heâs been called Professor before (likely as a joke but we canât tell that quite yet)
He looks young despite grey hair, itâs noticeable that heâs been prematurely aged
Heâll take responsibility and check in with the driver
Heâll write to pomfrey to tell her that a student is hurt
And this is just Chapter 5 of PoA- when heâs asleep for 90% of the chapter! Imagine the shit we get when heâs awake
i donât want characters with healthy coping mechanisms, actually. i want them to yearn and weep and suffer and have their brutal worldviews informed and/ or altered exclusively by their unyielding love for like. one other person. sorry

The best ship dynamic is actually just. "I love you and it terrifies me. I'm terrified how much I need you and how much I want you to need me. I'm terrified I'm no good for you and I'm going to hurt you and ruin you and I'm terrified of how I feel when you're around me but I can't bear to push you away completely because I'm terrified to be without you so now we're stuck in limbo and that's terrifying too. I'm terrified that if I lost you now it'd destroy me and I'm terrified that it's too late to do anything about it. I love you. And it's terrifying."

i have so much half-finished meta on professor r in my notes...
i think there's plenty of discussion to be had about when/how it's appropriate to change a character's race in fanworks and i think it's prudent to understand the motivation behind that change when it happens, especially because many times people are only perpetuating racism in fandom under the guise of inclusivity. for instance, when a character who IS textually marginalized on the basis of being literally "too animal" is given darker skin (and even worse and yet SO frequently also made to be larger/more aggressive/more sexual than they are in canon, traits that are deliberately exaggerated in comparison to white characters) then i think you absolutely have to examine that choice. at the very and i mean very least, you need to be thoughtful and deliberate in your portrayal. and like there's nuance right like we can explore how adding a different racial context changes or possibly even deepens the existing text while also being conscientious of racist tropes and remaining open to constructive feedback. and i'm definitely not saying you should have to justify every portrayal that deviates from implicit whiteness, just that good intentions don't justify accidental bigotry.
You know, it be preferable if certain Jily artists would bother to tag their art with poc/desi james potter tag. Cause not all of us consider that headcanon to be âcanonâ. The author is problematic and all, but that doesnât mean race swapping existing white characters is any better/makes yâall superior. It works for Hermione because sheâs a muggleborn and the added subtext of her being picked on by a racist, pureblood white prick like Draco and the garbage Malfoys. And this doesnât fucking mean Jily=Dramione! Fuck no. If anything, James being the reverse of Draco, but similar in he too was a white, pure blood privileged boy raised and pampered but was actual taught to not be a complete dick to those whoâs blood status isnât pure. Changing his race to fit a certain headcanon is bs and makes Dursleys hypocritical and worse(but skin color logic, they should hate Kingsley too). And itâs always James & Harry. Never Sirius, Remus, or Lily(who has the most reason to be race swapped). So overall, this fandom is a joke
yeah i'm not gonna trigger tag for race because you think giving james potter brown skin is reverse racism, that's insane.
it's cowardly to vague jkr's flaws w/o delineating. be specific: she is virulently racist and antisemitic, and violently transmisogynistic. she displays this openly throughout the harry potter series, as well as contributes active, tangible harm with these ideologies in real life. you should be honest about that if you're going to champion the audacious take that her depiction of overwhelming whiteness in hp is so sacrosanct.
i think it would be constructive to examine why you think only muggleborn characters can be feasibly raceswapped. is whiteness so default in your mind that you can't personally justify the inclusion of racial diversity if it isn't predicated on "subtextual" marginalization? and in a series that frames its largest conflict around a system that murders people based on blood status, your best example of this "subtext" is draco "picking on" hermione? literal attempted genocide happens in the last book.
other things:
it's like you brought up dramione just to get really mad about it for no reason.
you should probably know that the dursleys are already abusive hypocrites. it's beyond strange that your only real discernible argument for why it's bad to race swap james is that it makes the dursleys "worse." they're already child abusers.
hi. did you just say "skin color logic"?
you found my blog that has at max maybe about 10 followers to complain to me about a piece of fanart that got maybe 30 notes, because you personally don't like that the white character authored by a racist white woman was not depicted as white in my art, something you think should matter to me.
your concession that lily is one of a personally selected few that are more logically viable to be race swapped would also allow harry to be biracial. how did you forget the dursleys so quickly? think of their suffering.
this fandom is a joke because you're in it.
