its lavender
James: Maybe we shouldn’t get too greedy. That’s when things fall apart.
Meowth: Don’t worry that pretty blue head o’ yours, I got a plan.
James: [offscreen, lowkey annoyed] It’s lavender.

Ten algorithms to rule them all (or most of them)
Some algorithms (linked to their explanations) to learn for solving algorithmic challenges and puzzles:
Sieve of Eratosthenes, or another prime number sieve
Depth-first search
Breadth-first search
Dijkstra’s algorithm
Floyd–Warshall algorithm
Either Kruskal’s or Prim’s algorithm
Some implementation of topological sorting, such as by using DFS
Convex hull (I recommend the Monotone Chains algorithm)
Coordinate compression
Edmonds–Karp, or another implementation of the Ford–Fulkerson method; or a preflow-push algorithm; or, if you are preparing an ACM codebook, Dinic’s algorithm. (Note: Max flow is not allowed to appear on the IOI, but may nevertheless appear on national team-selection contests)

“In a future with mass unemployment, young people are forced to sell blood.” This is the opening line of a short film entered in this year’s Sci-Fi London Film Challenge. It’s dark, enigmatic, contemporary…and written by a computer. In fact, the film’s entire screenplay is the work of a neural net trained on sci-fi scripts. Once the software completed the screenplay—which you can read in all its unadulterated glory here—it was up to the film’s director and actors to make it into something someone might actually watch. And they did an admirable job.
