Plotting Call for some skip-the-first-meeting right into the good stuff with either Severin or Augustus!
for @dontcxckitup
Augustus was a snob when it came to member’s clubs. Tramps was seedy and unbecoming. Annabel’s on Berkley Square had just had an upgrade which was more of a downgrade if you asked him; the chintzy decor reminded him of his ex-wife. Albert’s in Chelsea attracted an influencer crowd more becoming of his youngest son - fucking Instagram.
No, the only club worthy of his custom was Oswald’s these days. Mayfair was easily commutable. Smartphones were banned - no sneakily recorded conversations or covert snaps across the room. No fancy website with glossy pictures to attract the kids. Oswald’s was everything a member’s club should be; quiet, discreet, and full of the well-to-do.
Gareth was good enough company. He was an old friend who knew Augustus well enough to know the contemptuous curl of his lip came naturally and wasn’t a real slight. They had sat in comfortable silence for almost twenty minutes before Augustus spoke, twitching a corner of The Times to look across the table with the air of a man remembering something utterly inconsequential.
“Thought you should know we’ll be publishing a little think-piece in The Mail. Tabloid nonsense, won’t have a huge impact, but it’ll be rather critical of intelligence. Don’t say I didn’t warn you.”
While Augustus only glanced over his newspaper, The Evening Standard in Gareth’s grip sunk down abruptly, and his gaze shot over to him. As much as gossip and ‘tabloid nonsense’ was ridiculed in the public eye, it had also to be taken seriously and watched with a careful eye. There wre enough idiots out there believing such things and spreading misinformation, attracting even more idiots in the process. It was like a game of dominoes.
Gareth tilted his head as if to warn the other to not fuck with him, then leaned forward to take his glass of brandy. “I know too well what ‘no huge impact’ means in your eyes, Augustus.” An eyebrow rose, showing him clearly what he thought about those news.
He took a sip of his drink and let his gaze wander for a moment. These clubs usually weren’t his places to frequent; sometimes, however, he needed the peace and seclusion Oswald’s offered. It was also a good way to see Augustus from time to time without raising brows. “What do I have to be prepared for?”
Well, there was a reaction Augustus had been hoping to avoid. He sighed in a very put upon way, lowering his paper and shaking it into a fold. As if to say, here, have my full attention if you must.
"Invasion of privacy... hardworking citizens who have their thoughts policed on... Twitter?" Augustus paused, nose wrinkling in distaste as he recounted that particular line. "Meanwhile, you've got extremist nutters like that idiot in Embankment... you know, the one with the nail bomb. You weren't keeping tabs on him, were you?"
Augustus tossed his paper down onto the table between them with an air of finality, sitting back with a weary sigh. It was fair game in his eyes. The article had been approved - and he had removed a section that described the very same man in front of him now as laughably incompetent. Because that wasn't true - and there had always been a kernel of truth in his reporting, hadn't there?
Will be available this weekend - to anyone owed a reply, starter, or DM I'll be on it by Saturday!

Overview
Kostya ‘Bell’ Novikov is a specialist in the acquisition of clandestine human intelligence and the provision of wet work services. In plain English, he trades in information and will put a bullet in anyone for the right price.
Novikov received his training with the KGB in a ghost department - Spetsbureau 13. Under the thumb of the Soviet Union, Novikov amassed 72 confirmed kills. He was also member of Perseus - a terrorist network dedicated to restoring the USSR to its full glory.
For a brief period, Novikov was captured by the CIA. He underwent psychological torture using hypnosis and neuroactive drugs which left him in a fugue state, unable to remember his own personal history. He spent several months working for the CIA, unknowingly helping to decrypt his own work and bring down the Perseus network.
Currently, Novikov is on the run and working as a freelance operative in the West. He is starting to piece his life back together but his amnesia still poses a problem. Novikov is considered a traitor by both the KGB and what remains of the Perseus Network. He is considered a fugitive by the CIA.
Verses
Pre-Canon - 1970 - 1981 - Novikov is an assassin with loyalties to the KGB and terrorist network Perseus. He is a talented cryptographer using his skillset to prepare for a nuclear attack that will secure power for Perseus. He is based in Moscow, Russia.
Canon - 1981 - Novikov has been captured by the CIA. He has undergone psychological torture using hypnosis and neuroactive drugs. He believes his name is Bell - he will not answer to Kostya Novikov and he has been given a set of false memories. He works for the CIA and is helping his team decrypt his own work in order to prevent a nuclear attack. He is based in West Berlin, Germany.
Post Game - 1981 - 1999 - Novikov works as a freelance operative in the West. When he is trying to fly under the radar, he works as an IT consultant, Alexei Orlov. He is a fugitive on the run from the KGB, Perseus and the CIA. He occasionally offers his services to the British Government in exchange for safe haven.
Modern AU - 2009 - Modern Day - Novikov was an assassin with loyalties to the FSB and terrorist network Perseus. He was captured by the CIA in 2009 and underwent psychological torture. For a brief period, he was a CIA asset known only as Bell. He is currently on the run from the FSB, Perseus and the CIA. He is working for the British Government as a mercenary in exchange for safe haven.
Plotting Call - like if you’d be interesting in discussing some skip-the-first-meeting stuff. Open to new people and old mutuals - would really love to reconnect!
I’ve been away for a while, but I’d really like to get back to this muse. For those who don’t know, I write a version of Bell from CoD: Black Ops Cold War. I am heavily inspired by head canon and slightly canon divergent. I have pregame, canon, and modern verses. More info can be found here.
I'll be reviving my CoD muse - Kostya 'Bell' Novikov if anyone is interested in an assassin with a grudge. Do be aware the muse is a former terrorist so approach that with caution if it might be a sensitive topic for you!

for @dsperado
Apprehensive was a word that felt foreign to Augustus. He so rarely thought to describe himself as anything remotely close to apprehensive, and so alien did it feel that he had settled on something more familiar.
Irritable.
It was clear in the tight set of his jaw, the way his lips had thinned, the way his fingers twiddled the end of his fountain pen, barrel grinding gratingly against the cap, that he was royally pissed off and sitting on it. How long had it been since the boy had last stood in his office, loitering in the doorway, half in, half out? A decade or more - less a boy, more a man, though only on a technicality as far as Augustus was concerned.
And here he was again. Summoned, and just like that, he had shown face. Good enough, wasn't he? Eager enough, or at least he had been, once. So, there was only to see what he was working with now. Only to see if the years in exile had done the boy some good.
Nothing changed externally when Augustus finally raised his head and found Sebastian waiting in the doorway.
Internally, something registered. Augustus was not a man capable of great warmth, strong affection, but laying eyes on Sebastian for the first time in over a decade stirred something in his chest. He had survived - back in one piece, tidy enough haircut, a good pair of boots. The boy was alright - and yes, Augustus was relieved, relieved and instantly absolved of any responsibility for tossing him out on his arse. Because he had survived hadn't he?
He was alright - and that was that. Appraisal over. Proud of him? That was pushing it. Pleased he wasn't strung out on a street corner? Fine.
As if a gulf of time had never separated them, Augustus gestured with his pen. "Come on, then. Sit down. And close the door behind you, would you?"
