so i saw some people on tiktok trying to cancel Given and i wanted to share my thoughts on this real quick
first of all, of course everyone is free to agree or disagree with me and everyone is free to like or dislike Given. this is in no way, shape or form a hate post or a post to force an opinion. let's get to it now
if you havent read chapter 11/watched episode 9 i advise you to stop reading since this will contain spoilers
the reason people are trying to cancel Given is because Mafuyu and Yuki had sex when they were 14, something which baffles me.
these are the manga panels of them sleeping together. as you can see the scene is there to show how deep their relationship was. it serves no sexual purpose, instead it comes as part of their story.
if you've read the manga/watched the anime you've seen the images before it. images of Mafuyu as a kid talking to Yuki about how his dad hits him and Yuki replying that he doesnt have a dad, images of the boys growing up and being together. the author wanted to show their story through Mafuyu's song to amplify the song's emotion and also to show us exactly what Mafuyu is trying to say. the song is called a winter's story and that story is the one that's being shown through those images
sex was part of their relationship and theres nothing wrong with that because they were the same age, they both consented and it was presented as part of their story and not as a way to sexualise them
Given is one of the first manga ive read that portray gay relationships in such a healthy way and to try to cancel is just beyond me. theres manga who fetishise mlm relationships and have very graphic sex scenes (non-consensual and sometimes paedophilic as well). this one is not like that
