*LOVE* an untagged, unwarned-for suicide fic in the steddie tags. Thanks, fuckface. Blocked.
Pat Ningewance, a first language Ojibwe speaker, once commented that it was awfully hard to effectively translate a lot of English poetry into Ojibwe because there is no way to say things like āher slim armsā bc the only word in Ojibwe for anything like that basically sounds like āher arms were just skin and bonesā while meanwhile there is a whole word that means ābeautifully fatā (minogaamo) bc that was way more valued in Ojibwe culture than being skinny, which probably meant you were malnourished
For those expressing interest in Pat's work, I recommend her introduction and translation of Anishinaabe writer George Kenny's poems and short stories, Gaawiin Mawisiiwag Anishinaabeg / Indians Don't Cry, and the book she wrote of her mother's storytelling, Gii-nitaa-aadisooke. The second link goes to the publishing company she owns, which also has one of the best available textbooks for learning Ojibwe, titled Gookom's Language.

Every word of this song is true and is what I need to hear, then and now.
queer sex is great, itās fun as shit / donāt worry, jesus is dead and god donāt exist / swearing is fun, itās funner than piss / that itās stupid is a cruel and classist myth / queer sex is great, itās fun as shit / donāt kill yourself cuz people canāt deal with your brilliance / sometimes i canāt remember why i want to live / but i think of all the freaks and i donāt wanna miss this
If you don't already, please listen to Team Dresch. I'm begging. Every time I forget about being joyfully queer and ALIVE, they wake something up in me.
Not feeling it.

So whatās the š¼š¶ tea? Are you primarily a metal/heavy-adjacent genre listener? What are you listening to a lot of these days? Old, new, favorites, discoveries, anything. Iām high and chatty and fucking love music (basically all genres/styles tbh) so Iād love to hear your recs so I can go listen to them. š
well first off, this is the best ask iāve gotten all year secondly i think iāll also get chatty and high and thirdly (hits the joint)
my music taste is truly alllllll over the fucking place because iām a singer and lyricist so if itās poetic or in any way fun/interesting/difficult to sing, itās most likely on repeat in my car. this week was hades 2 musical numbers, 60s country, my cousinās sludge metal band, and the brat album. but i do love metal and rock/heavier genres a lot! i usually gravitate more toward proggy stuff with jazz influences ā not exactly metal, but iāve been obsessed with angine de poitrine since i saw that live performance of them looking like adventure time characters:
i listen to a lot of doom metal when i lift weights because the slower sludgy tempos help me focus on my form; been listening to the faetooth album āLabyrinthineā recently.
shoutout to @griefabyss69 for introducing me to half the bands on my workout playlist, but especially the album āHellā by Legba.
also because iāve been trying to learn scream techniques and have a big ol lesbian crush on the lead singer, iāve had the song āPiscesā by Jinjer on repeat for like 6 months at least.
lastly not metal but more prog rock with classic rock/70s folk influences and, importantly, musically and artistically hot as all fuck: anything by Rosalie Cunningham but especially the opening track āRide on My Bikeā from her self-titled 2019 album
PS CAUSE HOW COULD I FORGOT WILL RAMOS MY BELOVED GOBLIN-VOICED ANGEL WILL RAMOS. his mix of fry screams, false-chord, squeals, and inversion screams on this track are insaaaaaanely impressive. (āTo the Hellfireā by Lorna Shore)
Okay first of all yes OF COURSE I want to see whatās underneath your music trenchcoat. Duh. Second of all sorry this is gonna be long, I wasnāt lying about being chatty lol
Iām just gonna write this as I listen to the stuff thatās new to me up there, and then Iāll give you what Iāve been listening to lately lol and Iām sorry to the like five people who follow me in case yall donāt care but Iām having fun so š¤·š»āāļø
first of all I have also been enjoying angine de poitrine, who I learned about from that very performance bc of course Iām the kind of music nerd that follows kexp on YT. and I love faetooth! In a similar vein, have you listened to blackwater holylight? Theyāre an all-woman heavy psych/doom band from Oregon and I like them a lot.
That Jinjer song is incredible - her screams!!!! Incredible! Also holy shit sheās gorgeous, I am looking only halfway respectfully at best.
And excuse me but I am just exactly the right level of high for this Rosalie Cunningham song and album to fuckin HIT. Gonna be vibing to/with this for a while.
I have heard of but never actually heard Lorna shore before, and wow that voice is like genuinely stunning. What he can do is so fucking cool and varied and real fuckin goblin-voiced youāre so right!
okay now for me! (Iām rubbing my hands together like Mr burns rn jsyk - also sidebar Iām so excited bc from your taste so far I know I can throw the weird stuff I like at you and youāll at least get it even if you donāt like it lol) my music taste is also sooooo all over the place. I love everything!! If weāre going by what I listen to the most, my favorite genres are country (but not likeā¦Morgan wallen style Nashville machine country, like real country/alt-country/americana/etc - I fucking love 60s country [of course I do, Iām like a seventh generation Texan lmao] so Iād be interested to know what you were listening to and singing along with), riot grrrl and adjacent punk/queercore/etc (this is MY SHIT, I was a baby dyke at college in Portland in 2000 so I was In It, I saw the gossip before they had any recorded music out open for sleater-Kinney), dancehall/dub/reggae (this is the most unexpected one I feel like), and instrumental guitar music like hermanos Gutierrez (this is what I chill to at night usually - that or 90s triphop, specifically the album dummy by portishead which is a top ten for me for sure). If you have any interest in recs from any of those areas, Iām your girl lol.
I think the artist Iām listening to the absolute most right now is She Returns From War. Sheās a country singer from Nashville (via Charleston, SC) and a trans woman. I think her lyrics are great and sheās fun to sing along to. She has an album coming out sometime this year and this song is gonna be on it:
Iām also gonna take the opportunity to rec a song I love by one of my oldest friends, itās like a doom/noise thing with some screams I rly enjoy, and nobody else I know would appreciate it haha
Oh, yeah, another band I discovered via KEXP is Zonbi, who are a post-punk/punk/jazz/avant-garde (?? I did not nail this but they are weird and cool and very compelling to me) band. Hereās the performance that got me:
anyway Iām high and rambly so Iām stopping for now
Bringing this back because it's among my favorite gif sets of all time.
