A detail that so many reactors seem to miss is JJ casually calling Ilya a ‘cocksucking russian’ while Shane and the rest of the team watch the Raiders win the cup. It’s dismissed as a garden variety insult when it’s so homophobically charged, and such a clear indication that this is something Shane has had to deal with every day since he was 8, from people Shane considers to be his closest friends. Hurts my heart.

Normally Shane doesn't meet Ilya's eyes during their face-offs.

But in the last one he not only catches his eye but he *smiles* and Ilya fucking *melts*.

Ilya knows by this point eye contact does not come naturally to Shane so seeing him actively seek it out and seem so comfortable and relaxed probably made Ilya feel all warm and fuzzy.
