Hot Take: Using Police's "Every Breath You Take" for S2 Mike and El/Jane was perfect.

I was one that found it funny with the context of the song. It's a song that has famously been misinterpreted into romantic.

That said, I think Mike and El/Jane are a rare exception where the literal stalking meaning of the song actually works without being creepy.

Because El spent 353 days doing just that, watching him. Since she couldn't physically leave the cabin or tell him that she's alive, she had to watch from a distance.

And on the flip side is this part

Since you've gone, I've been lost without a trace. I dream at night, I can only see your face. I look around, but it's you I can't replace. I feel so cold, and I long for your embrace. I keep crying, baby, baby please

Which fits Mike's perspective perfectly as well. Who spent those same 353 days calling out for her. He initially pushed back on Max joining because he didn't want anyone to replace her. Not to mention the moments he sensed her watching.

Maybe this was obvious to everyone from the start but I had this realization while rewatching
