Huevember - Day 18 - Blue Space BFF
What do you mean andalites are never going to be one of the Council races?
Mass Effect 5: Yeerk Invasion
I LOVE THE MASS EFFECT ANIMORPHS CROSSOVER TALK ABOUT IT MORE
Sorry for not replying for so long!!! I had to organize all my thought about this because I HAVE A LOT OF THEM.
So, on top of most of the things I’ve written about already, which are mostly world building, I’ve thought a lot about what might differ from the three games. So, here we go:
Commander Shepard. Still N7, still war hero and ultimate badass. Difference? Shepard’s a controller.
Their Yeerk is Dran Lissan, an engineer and expert hacker (there was a huge shift in Yeerk culture after the war over. One of them being them dropping the numbers thing, as the dissolution of the Yeerk council undermined a lot of the traditional hierarchical bullshit that kept all but the most useful to the war effort without host bodies. A high rank yeerk will still be called “Visser” as a sign of respect though). In the Alliance, yeerks and soldiers are sometimes paired together to create a soldier with an extreme amount of skill, all in one package who can switch control of the Soldier’s body depending on who’s skills are needed (I’m actually fiddling around with the idea that that’s what the N7 program actually is, training with a yeerk as a controller). Lissan and Shepard at the start of the game are already legendary for having such excellent chemistry and having completed training faster than anyone before. They are practically unstoppable together.
I also really wanted an Andalite squad mate, which is kinda what triggered this whole AU in the first place. Now I can’t decide if I should make an already existing squad mate an andalite or not (If I do, I’m leaning towards Kaidan), but I figure since the Alliance in this AU is made up of Humans, Yeerks, Taxxons, Andalites, and Hork Bajir, there’s probably a couple of each. Except not really Hork Bajir… they mostly keep to themselves, except for Seers who tend to become diplomats or Government Reps. (You don’t really see them in the military, except as morphs sometimes)
For example, Chakwas is also a controller. She’s a Doctor, who’s yeerk also has their MD, and together they have medical knowledge on pretty much every Alliance and Council species. Pressley’s definitely an Andalite; still has a bit of that Andalite superiority complex when it comes to other species.
Joker’s still got OI, and is even more bitter about it because Andalites are still pretty ableist and will give him shit, and on top of that he’s also not able to morph for very long so he can’t hide his handicap(I mentioned before in this AU that most of the kinks of morphing have been worked out, but I’m thinking now that everyone has different time limits on morphing, and you can train yourself to go past two hours if you’re capable).
There is one Taxxon Estreen on board that is an OC, who can morph for very long amounts of time, that you can read about here, mostly because I wanted to explore what that could entail. And there’d be more andalites peppered in with the rest of the crew.
The events of Mass Effect 1 are pretty much the same. Shepard and pals fight Saren, Someone dies on Virmire, and they try to subvert the distrust of the council (Council species don’t trust Alliance species and vice versa, the first contact war went on a lot longer than in canon). In the end they all save the day, hurray, hurrah!
Then The Collectors attack the Normandy. Shepard dies, everyone’s super upset and split apart. Cerberus is still a Pro-Human organization, except that makes all the difference here. They’re prejudiced against other Alliance species as well. So they bring Shep back, but not Lissan. Which fucks Shepard up, because there are still pieces of Lissan in their brain, and on top of PTSD from their death, they also get flashes of Lissan’s memories and thoughts and fears and quirks.
Mass Effect 2 goes on pretty much the same as well. Kelly’s a human who morphs Andalite to get a better read on her patients minds with thought speak (she’s scary good at it), as well as to get Shepard to trust Cerberus (“See? We don’t hate aliens that much”), and there’s a huge shit storm when Shep finds out she’s actually a human who’s been lying the whole time under TIM’s orders. There’s also a huge fight with Miranda, when she tells Shepard about the fact she wanted to put a control chip in them, and when Shepard objects, she says “how is it any different than that slug in your brain”? She later apologizes when she betrays Cerberus. Zaeed is a rare Hork Bajir seer who was bored as hell with his colony, and left at a young age and became a Mercenary. Kasumi is an estreen, which comes in handy for thievery. Everyone else is pretty much the same, except Grunt secretly really looks up to Zaeed because he thinks he’s so cool (Zaeed is kind of this Krogan masculine ideal by shunning his peace-loving people and becoming this terrifying eight foot tall dinosaur killing-machine, and Grunt is still insecure about his place in Krogan society).
Second game ends. Third game is again, very similar. Reapers arrive, aaahhhh ohh nooooo. Shepard still has PTSD as fuck, but the alliance needs them at the helm. And a weird thing starts to happen where Shepard will kind of start to lose it in the middle of a battle, but they come out of scrapes okay anyway. Shep also start to have some wild dreams involving their dead yeerk (the little boy never happens). It turns out that Lissan’s bits in Shep’s head are starting to regenerate a bit and merge with their brain. Never to the point where Lissan’s actually alive or an individual being, but to Shepard it feels a little like they have a guardian angel watching over them (If Ashley’s alive they have a discussion about it). Everyone’s the same except for Vega who is a scary-buff Andalite, but still has the same personality and backstory. His interest in the N7 program is especially poignant, since Andalites and Yeerks still have a pretty big aversion to one another.
AND THAT’S ALL I’VE GOT RIGHT NOW? I have seriously thought about this too much. I wish I could write fic and give this a proper place to be, hahah.
Not trying to poke holes or anything, but where would he demorph/remorph in safety aboard the Normandy? I’m sure that they would have at least one morphing room, but I can’t see it holding a 10-foot centipede without it hurting itself. Nor without interruptions. Have you altered or kept the 2-hour period? I’m really curious about how you envision this world. *Grabby hands.*
“Man, when was the last time you saw Myyrs eat with the rest of us? I’m starting to think he’s a nothlit or something.”
“What? Like, a Taxxon? No way dude, the guy hates bugs.”
Taxxon Wasting Syndrome is characterized by starving or drastically under-estimating the caloric needs of a body due to an inability to recognize the body’s hunger drive through desensitization from a body of a different species.
During the years before the defeat of the Yeerk Empire, it was Initially only found to occur in Yeerks that had become acclimated to a host Taxxon’s constant need for sustenance upon transferring to a new host. It now most commonly occurs in Taxxon Nothlits, where symptoms are further exacerbated by the prolificness of Taxxon with biotic potential.
Due the severity and wide-spreadedness of TWS, Alliance-sponsored omnitool extensions that help monitor and mind caloric intake are free for Nothlits of all species.
I made an OC??? When did this happen??
Philip Myyrs, Taxxon to Human Nothlit. Even though this is the far future, there’s a lot of hate for the poor, scary, giant, yellow centipedes, so Philip tries very, very hard to hide what he is. He’s an excellent morpher, and a powerful biotic, and probably joins the Normandy at some point (I’m really wanting to incorporate animorphs aliens as squadmates).
BTW since this is the future I assume morphing technology’s got most of the kinks worked out and being stuck as a morph doesn’t really happen much anymore since the time limit is now like three years or something, so when I say Nothlit, I mean more like ‘this is the shape that this person spends almost all their time as’. Demorphing to your original body and then morphing into something else takes a lot less energy and effort than morphing directly from one form to another, so Phil trying to hide that he’s base form is a Taxxon is going to cause some conflict.
toaradical
: Nah it’s cool! I figure that since they’ve gotten bout 170 years to develop morphing technology, most of the big issues have been worked out; namely the time limit has been extended so long it’s become obsolete, and that it is technically possible to morph from one form to another without demorphing, however it’s much more difficult than just demorphing first.I figure the conflict for this character would be that since he’s so ashamed about being a Taxxon, he tries to pass off as a human. which means when he has to morph, he’s wasting a lot of focus and effort going directly from one form to the other without going back to Taxxon first. Maybe Shep sets him straight or something later. If you ever watched the Young Justice cartoon, it’s basically the same issues that M’gann went through about being a white martian
chevko: Oooh :o
When did the Andalites get on the Council? I know they got on the Council, how could they not? MORPHING TECHNOLOGY MAN. THE SALARIANS JUST HAVE A COVERT OPS TEAM. ASARI ARE PRETTY AND REALLY HOT. TURIANS HAVE MILITARY. ANDALITES CAN FUCKING TURN INTO OTHER SPECIES.
o.o Did they find the Relays first? Or were they the third group to find it? (After the other three major races.) Or were they after the Volus?
I MUST HEAR WORLD LORE.
Ahh!! I’m so glad someone’s into this! I’ve gotten quite a bit into it in my Morph Effect tag, but I can sort of sum it up here as cohesively as I can:
The biggest change to the canons is that the scale of space travel for each series are inversed. Where in the Animorphs canon, Z-space technology allows intergalactic (between galaxies) FTL travel, and in the Mass Effect canon the relays only allow for intragalactic (within a single galaxy) FTL travel. In this AU it’s the other way around; Humans, Yeerks, Andalites, Hork-Bajir, Taxxons… All the Animorphs series’ aliens come from within the Milky Way galaxy. Meanwhile the Mass Effect aliens come from within the Local Cluster (which the milky way is in), which can be traversed thanks to the Mass Effect Relays.
Just think in terms of the ME universe getting scaled up: [star system<galaxy<galaxy cluster<super cluster]
So while in mass effect originally the reapers traveled to the milky way galaxy from within the galaxy cluster, in this AU they travel from the local cluster from within the virgo supercluster. And originally the first contact war was due to humans expanding from the sol relay (iirc), in the AU the first contact war is due to the Alliance expanding from the Milky Way relay.
Basically most of the events of the Animorphs book series happened, pretty much up until the last bit where Jake and co. go fight some vague unknown enemy; that doesn’t happen. The remaining Animorphs just kinda live the rest of their days as normally as they can. I could see Cassie being an ambassador, and maybe Jake and Ax helping form the System’s Alliance (which in the Mass Effect universe is the global Navy/Government, but in this AU it unites Humans, Andalites, Yeerks, Taxxons, and Hork Bajir into something similar) during the post-war reconstruction. Honestly have got no clue what Marco would do, and Tobias just dissapears. They’re all war heroes and all that but they’ve got hella PTSD and the story I’m building isn’t really about them.
Now ONE OF THESE KIDS got frisky at some point and long story short; one of their descendants is Commander Shepard (because I love the idea).
SO.
It’s like 170 years later and first contact between Alliance species (Human,Andalite,Yeerk, etc.), and the Turians happen. And this is a lot more of an intense war, like, I believe in canon the Turians almost wipe humans out? This AU it’s the other way around. The rest of the council species take notice a whole lot faster this time and mediation happens much that same way it did in canon. Alliance species are regarded pretty much the same way humans are in ME canon, except maybe even a little more overzealous, because I think Andalites in particular would be miffed about not immediately having representation on the Citadel Council.
Also morphing and yeerk host dynamics are worked into the whole thing too but wow this is hella long enough ahahahah…
Inspired by toaradical’s biotic Andalite
I might do another design with the lower half based on horse armor, which I think an Andalite would find more comfortable but I need more time to figure out how to make it look properly sleek and Mass Effect-y.
Ohmygoshohmygoshohmygosh LOOK!!!!!! AT!!! THIS!!!!!!!!
In 2186 an experimental special task force of Taxxons and Yeerks (with histories of being able to control the Taxxon appetite) picked for their extraordinary self control, morph into Thresher Maws. They find themselves able to control the morphs, and are utilized to fight the Reapers.
They prove extremely succesful, and eliminate about 75% of reaper forces. Leaving the rest to be picked off by the intergalactic fleet.
the little ghost boy never happened. All the Reapers blew up and The Geth and EDI are 100% okay. HAPPY ENDING.
Mass Effect/Animorphs crossover.
Zero Space technology is the key to what runs the relays
Scrit Na working with collectors to get samples of species
Taxxons in awe of the Rachni
Andalites finding it awesome they’re not the only telepathic species.
Then immediately disappointed because the Hanar are weird
Council species becoming uplifted with intergalactic space travel technology
The reapers are actually the reset tool for Crayak and the Ellimist’s game
CASSIE OR MARCO’S LAST NAME IS ACTUALLY SHEPARD
THE COMMANDER IS A DECEDENT.
"You know, the Turians weren’t the first time we were at war with an Alien species"
hobbit-queen reblogged your post:Mass Effect/Animorphs crossover. Zero Space…
My friend actually told me that the andalites should have been in the ME universe because they would so fit in.
THEY’RE DEFINITELY DOUCHEY ENOUGH
OKAY BUT REALLY THO They would totally start wearing clothes because they are the only telepathic naked species along with the Hanar and Rachni, and since Andalites have that whole superiority thing going on they would want to do as much as they could to disassociate from such a primitive looking species.
And now I’m thinking about Andalite clothing.
They would probably try and mimic Human trends, since we’re the species they’re most familiar with. Also it’s a headcanon of mine that Andalites can’t really tolerate cold temperatures (we’ve all determined that the series took place in SoCal), and I’m pretty sure the Citadel is pretty cold, since almost everyone is mostly covered up. So Andalites would REALLY bundle up.
They’d probably also need to cover their tail blades because they’re a very deadly weapon, and walking along a crowded area you wouldn’t want someone to run into them and get stabbed.
AND NOW I’M THINKING ABOUT COUNTER CULTURE ANDALITES??? BECAUSE older andalites would probably be all “WE’VE ALWAYS BEEN NAKED. CLOTHES ARE FOR LOSERS” but younger ones who are now enjoying the freedom of not having to stay in a strict, militarized society would totally embrace trends of the homogenized citadel culture or even those of other aliens and appropriate them.
omg this got way longer than I thought it would get
AN ANDALITE SQUADMATE THO
BIOTIC ANDALITE WUT UP
I don’t think I’ll ever be able to let go of this idea.
OKAY BUT LIKE.
ANDALITeS AND HORK BAJIR AND TAXXONS AND YEERKS AND HUMANS MAKE UP THE ALLIANCE?!?!?! and it’s not just some military version of the UN?? LIKE THINK ABOUT IT FOR A SECOND. SO MUCH POTENTIAL!!!
Special Alliance commandos with companion yeerks because two brains during combat is better than one. Like maybe a soldier who’s good with biotics and fighting but is horrible at tech; so when a tech problem comes up, the yeerk takes over, and they switch off depending on who’s best for whatever situation at hand.
Council species freaking out because SHIT they don’t just have to deal with one new sentient species they have to deal with five.
And they already have their own interspieces organization set up.
The First Contact War has just gotten a lot more interesting.
