Sorry but I really disagree with this take, and I think it's not a good argument for the veracity of the Bible. Because it's very human to take pride in denying oneself, leaving things you like to obtain a kind of redemption or enlighment. Devout people in other religions do it too.
Plus, I believe that the Bible actually answers the most fondamental desires of humans: to be loved infinitely, to be known perfectly, to have hope beyond this mortal life. After all, Pascal said that there is in every human a hole in the shape of God.

2 more days until this comic comes out can't wait!!!
Thinking about when God is teaching Jonah about mercy and he gives him a nice leafy plant and then the plant is withered by the sun and Jonah really liked that plant and he's mad that it’s dead! And God says, “Are you angry, Jonah?” And Jonah says “Yeah! Angry enough to die!”
And God’s like, “Exactly. So Am I.”
AND THEN HE DID. FOR US. FOR ALL OF US.
Jonah 4:5-11 NLT
Always loved Jonah's book for its ending.

Love the pics shared by Joe Dalton's actor (Jérôme Niel) on Instagram, makes me wish I had Instagram
Sh*t now someone needs to draw Joe and Calamity taking a selfie together

Ever since I've watched The Amnesiac, I keep thinking about the cake scene and what it says about Ma Dalton's parenting.
The one interpretation is that Ma's favoritism of Averell reached the level when she makes his favorite cake every even on her other sons' birthdays.
Since we only see Joe's birthday flashback, the other interpretation is that she's doing it only on his birthday and he's her least favorite kid.
But my interpretation is as such:
Since Joe is the oldest and is supposed to be the leader of the gang, Ma openly favorizes Averell to make Joe angry and teach him that if he wants something, he has to fight for it. This feeling of unfairness is supposed to make him strong, and fierce, and determined as the guy who will lead his brothers.
But no matter how you look at it, it paints a very negative picture of Ma Dalton's parenting style.
Idk for me both interpretations can be true at the same time: she prefers Averell AND wants Joe to be the most mature one. Ma Dalton has always been presented as a flawed mother: she hits her adult kids, yells at them, judges their choices, she's very domeenering and controling. So favoritism is not the worst of it (but it's funny that it's the ONE thing that bother the most Joe, Jack and William)
She's not all bad though. It's not a Ma Beagle situation (at least from what I can tell from Ducktale 2017). She clearly loves her sons very much and wants the best for them (at least what the Dalton family sees as "best" aka crime lol). She seems self-aware about her favoritism of Averell, but justifies it because he's the nicest and softest. She puts a lot of pressure on Joe for being the oldest, so she's especially hard on him (also because he has the worst temper and must have been a nightmare to raise lol), but she at least 2 times validates him in his leadership role.
I headcanon that it must have been a hard life for her: her husband always in jail, and dying in an explosion. It seems they always lived in poverty (Ma's house is a tiny shack in the middle of nowhere and she gets by thanks to the charity of people - at least until she decides to start robbing again lol)
That's part of how the Daltons became such interesting characters as time went by: they are evil outlaws and abuse eachover, yet they care a lot for eachover. For them, robbing banks and attacking trains is the pride of their family and relates to the love they have for eachover. Really funny and endearing.
(also not related but I love how Ma wants her sons to be outlaws, but draws the line at swearing and robbing the Church. She says grace before meals to thank God for the food they just stole ahaha)
I do it for him <3

I've FINALLY watched the 2026 Disney+ live-action Lucky Luke show, guess I'll share my thoughts here! (since I've no one IRL who watched it lol)
Overall: my enjoyment varies A LOT from episode to episode: from kinda meh to REALLY liking it. I'm a Daltons fan, so if you've seen it you can guess which one was my favorite ahaha
Let's get through it step by step
The visuals. Wow, that's really the first time I actually agree with going the live-action route instead of animation for an adaptation. I LOVE the costumes, sets and scenery (I even thought it was really shot in the US desert, but it's more probably Spain). It works because it fits with the decision to go into a grittier, more realistic version of Lucky Luke, which can work really well for this franchise. It was really jarring for me in the first episode to see French actors in historical western cotumes, I had never seen it before ahaha
The script. It's really bad. I mean, I like the story they are trying to tell, but the way they go at it... I've seen some people critize the actors but they are really doing what they can with the dialogue they are given. Sometimes it works, but a lot of the time, it's really cringy, unatural or illogical (I'm talking both about the dialogues and the way things unfold)
Lucky Luke. Not gonna lie, I always prefered the Daltons over the main character, so I'm not too bothered with him having a different personality. At first I was really having trouble with his looks, especially his long greasy dirty hair lol. I got used to it. I guess it works for an old, close to retirement version of Luke. I didn't mind the times he was owned or ridiculed, it happens a lot too in the comics. I was really getting tired of his bickering though. A little at the start with Louise is fine, it's funny to see him go down to the level of a teenager. But by the end of the show, you realize that EVERY character talks like this (another huge problem with the script). I liked the actor playing the young Luke, he REALLY looks like the comic-book version, it's uncanny!! Overall I kinda liked Luke's arc, his dark backstory, overcoming shame, accepting loved ones in his life, but I wasn't super invested.
Joe Dalton. 90% of the reason I enjoyed the show OK I ADMIT IT. I mean, they REALLY made him far more likeable than Luke, it's crazy (also not helped by the fact that he's played by the best actor of them all BY FAR). What really surprised me is that he's far sweeter and nice than his usual depictions. They keep telling us that he's a real bad guy but he never even try to kill Luke in the whole show! (really OOC for him, that's like HIS THING). So much that the few times he snaps and starts yelling (like the scene were he tries to play father-daughter with Louise), it comes out of nowhere, especially for someone who never read the comics. That's another problem with the show: none of the characters feel like themselves (more about that latter). So by far, the BEST episode is the Amnesiac, because then Joe has a reason to be OOC and it's HILARIOUS. I kept laughing, it's the episode that makes the whole show for me ahah
The other Daltons. Great look, great cast, really liked their dynamic. Love the "Jack or William?" joke. The birthday cake flashback was GENIUS. It instantly explains the whole family dynamic. So then WHY DID THEY CAST THEM ASIDE OFFSCREEN IN THE NEXT EPISODE??? Gnnn this is my reason for hoping for a season 2, to see more of them.
Calamity Jane. I was thrown off by seeing her antagonize Luke this much (she's like his best friend in the comics), but it works with what they did with her and Louise. Loved seeing her come back at the end (even if I've mixed feeling with her not really ending up being a friend to Luke and his family). The actress was PERFECT, and her looks too, I really loved it.
Louise. She's really the main character of the show. I mean... she's fine. Yeah. Fine. LOVED her relationship with Billy The Kid (and the way his character was handled in general). I found it more interesting than her relationship with Luke or Charlie, cause it was less cliché lol
Charlie. Eh. She's fine too. A little bit bland and clichée. Not too great chemistry with Luke, but okay chemistry with Louise. IDK she's far more interesting to me in the first episodes when we only know about her and haven't met her yet lol
Bad guy woman (don't remember her name). Awfull. Not intimidating. Her plot makes no sense. Was absolutely bored by her from the first scene. No charisma, no relationship with our heroes, nothing.
La Foudre. At first I was also really bored by him. But I really liked his inflitration scene, he seemed really menacing, cunning and a real threat right there (instead of a boring bad guy who's evil just because). Unfortunately that's the only good scene with him.
Overall, it felt more like an AU than a real adaptation. The characters were all very different. But I didn't mind. I like AUs and fanfics lol. The family story was good and engaging, but I think it's really telling I lost all interest when Joe Dalton said his goodbyes and I understood he wasn't gonna be in the last 2 episodes. I still watched it until the end, but I really couldn't care less about the conspiracy / save the president plot.
So I don't regret the 11€ I spent getting Disney+ just to watch it (I'll just have to remember to cancel my subscription before the end of the month lol). If there's a season 2 I'll gladly watch it. Now I'm on my way to rewatch the episodes with the Daltons in it byyye

My thoughts on the Lucky Luke series trailer cuz I waited months for this
"Months" is being selling it short since I've know about this series for, literal years let's go:
Quick summary : Famed Wild West hero Lucky Luke must help young Louise rescue her mother and stop a secret conspiracy. They get help along the way from some familiar faces..
From the plot I think this is gonna be a show that's gonna run with the idea that you are familiar with those characters. Lucky Luke, the Daltons, Calamity Jane etc... You know what these characters are all about so they clearly want o play with these characters and put them in new situations while trying to stay true to their character like a fanfic
Gonna adress the biggest issue I have right now is that I'm unfortunately not entirely sold on Alban Lenoir's take on Lucky Luke for now Kind of expected tho Luke *is* a complicated character to get right so I'm gonna give the benefit of the doubt for now.
One I had no doubt about is Jerome Niel as Joe Dalton. I always though he was gonna a perfect fit and this trailer proves me right so far.
Speaking of which we do get the iconic shot of the four stair-cased Daltons in their prison outfit but I'm betting the show is gonna sideline William Jack and Averell. They're nowhere to be seen in the trailer beyond that shot and I'm guessing the show's main trio is gonna be Luke, Louise and Joe. Understandable if true but I can could see it being disappointing for a lot of people.(it's kind of the issue with the Daltons : they move as a single unit most of the time but we are talking about *four* people so they can take up a lot of space)
Everyone is well cast tho. Billie Blain as Louise is pretty likeable and Camille Chamoux looks a lot of fun as Calamity Jane was well. Can't say much about the rest but Victor Le blond is shoe-in as Billy the Kid, here as a young adult man with boyish features, which resembles the actual Billy the Kid, so points for that too.
I really like the artistic direction the show is going with : it reminds me of Red Dead Redemption 2 where it's going for a periode-accurate setting and design but with that little hint of old-school western movie rather than the complete grime of Western Spagetthi. Most of the characters are very recognazible but tweaked well enough to fit the setting. I think good work has been done there, I'm pretty happy with it.
Don't really care about the secret plot for now cuz I mostly want to see my fave characters interact with each others lol
I *am* betting on the show leaving some ambiguity between Luke, Louise and her mother Alice. They could hint at Luke and Alice having a fling years before and Louise being their daughter. But that's just a theory . (I'm also kind of banking on Louise and Kid having a thing for each other too.)
So is it gonna be good? Could be.I wasn't watching the trailer thinking "oooh it's gonna be a masterpiece" but I'm sure it could be a fun time. Could be fun. Could be a misfire. Gonna have to watch to se it and sure as hell will.
It's 8-episodes show and there doesn't seem to be a second season planned for now. Hopefully the main plot gets concluced in this season.
Oh, good to know few insights about the cast and plot, I didn't get.
In some ways this trailer made me think about Terrence Hill's Lucky Luke. Mainly because Daltons there also barely resemabled themselves (in more than one way).
But also Alban Renoir makes me think about Terrence Hill as Luke, but in a different way - he definately looks like Luke (unlike Hill), but it remains to be seen if he can pull him off.
The most interesting thing for me is the tone: it seems to be much more adventure based than humour based, which is really cool for a Lucky Luke adaptation. I really like that they took inspiration from modern westerns rather that old-timey ones (like when the comic first came out)
I wasn't hype for this (live-action adaptations of comic books usually don't work at all), but the trailer really gave me hope (especially since the it looks like Joe Dalton is going to be a recurring character!!!)
The one thing I'm not sure about is Lucky Luke's actor and design, especially the long greasy hair (???)

The fourth Narnian book, The Silver Chair, is the best one out of the series and you can’t convince me otherwise.
Thank you!!! It has always been my favorite (certainly influenced by the fact that it was the first Narnia book I've ever read)
I was so sad the movie franchise died out before adapting it.
