Yknow I am firmly of the stance that ruthlessly slaughtering thousands of people, alot of whom were innocent, is completely unjustifiable. But in Owen's defence, what was he supposed to do?
Like, genuinely considering the options from least to most violent we have:
Reveal yourself to the towns people most of whom are under the impression that they just executed a man in your name*, you're cured now and they might accept you, but all that was good in your life has just been burnt away
Jump into the pyre and die, till death do us part my ass, death will not part us actually (this one would have actually been a good ending since Owen wouldn't have been sent to hell and they could be together forever)
Kill just the people you know are responsible for the execution. This will have consequences, and you will likely be killed for sparing the rest of the town, either that or become a vampire overlord, this will have different consequences if Scott ever wakes up
Kill everyone one town and bury yourself under the earth with your love, pass 200 years as the earth reclaims his body and you are left alone, haunt these lands and vow to kill anyone who sets foot within the town (we saw how that went)
The point I'm making here is that sure he's a monster but there was also no good ending to his story, his life sucked, sucked some more, there was on silver lining, one ray of sunshine in the middle of winter that got ripped and it wne tback to sucking even more
*most of the town's folk probably either believed the accusations or were too scared to say otherwise, either way almost knew about the plot against Louis or about his vampirism
