How to look for indie comics from Black creators!

As you may know, there was recently a DC Comics boycott as a part of the DCSoWhite movement since DC has not had a mainline ongoing solo with a Black lead for over 1200 days. You can read more about this here, here, here, and here. The boycott has been cancelled (link), but that doesn't mean we can't still show support for Black comic creators!

One of the things the movement called for fans to do was to "[Support] Black creators through independent and creator-owned projects." So this post is meant to provide tips on how to do this.

Check out other works of Black creators you're already familiar with

The Black comic creators you're already a fan of who have made comics for DC or Marvel have likely also made comics for other publishers too. You can usually find out about other comics they've worked on through their Wikipedia page, social media pages, and their own website if they have one. And it's a good idea to follow their social media to learn about any of their projects in the future!

Look through indie publisher websites

A great way to find out about indie comics is to check out indie publishers' websites. There will almost always be a page on their websites with all their comics so you can easily look through them and the creators will be listed so you can look into the creators too. This is one way to find out about Black comic creators who you might not already be familiar with.

The publishers that are listed as examples in the webpages linked above are Image Comics, BOOM! Studios, Vault Comics, Ignition Press, and Stranger Comics.

Check out existing lists

There are already lists online that specifically recommend Black creators to check out and comics by Black creators. You can also find recommendations and lists on social media. This is another great way to find out about Black comic creators you're not yet familiar with.

Speaking of lists, I would like to point you to this post by @bimboopo which includes a list of many Black webtoon creators which you can go check out!

Hopefully this guide will help people find out about more comics by Black creators. Support these creators by reading, buying, and talking about their comics. And even if the boycott is over, still make sure to sign the petition.

my car is completely dead. the warranty is refusing to cover a dime of the new engine it needs and it's completely undrivable without one. (the piston rings in the engine are damaged which is causing oil to leak into the engine. it's destroying the spark plugs routinely and causing engine backfires. every time I drive it I am at high risk of the engine seizing. I am not looking for advice)

I have a down payment on a new car but I'm looking at $12,000-13,000 in loans to get a car that will fit my wheelchair (and has a back up camera) (I am not looking for advice on car shopping)

I need a car to get to work, school, medical appointments, and run errands. many of the places I need to go are not accessible by bus and even if they were doing things like hauling a load of groceries on a bus in a wheelchair is difficult (not looking for advice). I have been without a car for 3 months waiting on a decision from the warranty and people are getting really fatigued from giving me rides all the time. I don't think I can convince people to give me rides forever, it has become increasingly difficult to get them even when asking in large mutual aid chats. I do not have the money to uber all the time even if they weren't awful about wheelchairs.

I feel like the term "caffeine addiction" is really misleading. the vast majority of the time when people talk about "caffeine addiction" they are talking about a physical caffeine dependency. "addiction" has the connotations of an emotional dependence.

there isn't really any substantial evidence that caffeine is addictive. there's evidence that you can develop a physical dependence on it but there are lots of things you can develop a physical dependence on. neuropathy medications aren't addicting just because you get withdrawals if you stop them.

withdrawals ≠ addiction. addiction is defined by your emotional relationship to something and can be impacted by chemical dependence but that's not the defining factor.

i know things are hella grim in the nsfw/kink art circles especially in the last year --

but I'm hearing there's a NSFW-friendly ko-fi alternative built on atproto that's actively in the works, and being vetted by lawyers right now. as torrent-princess (OP) says, you should be able to swap out payment processors while keeping your account intact. this matters since even if stripe removes support, you'll still have a shop and all of your links intact. (ATproto is an infrastructure that bsky is built on, but is far bigger than bsky with far more opportunities.)

additionally, the Free Speech Coalition is working on a credit union specifically for adult work (including kink art) - here's the link so you can add your interest & support. Since this will be built by sex workers, there'll be far less risk of being debanked for spurious and puritanical reasons.

on a domain TLD level, there's an initiative here for a .furry domain built from the ground up by seasoned furries; it's unclear whether they'll support NSFW, but it's yet another promising turn of events for a group that's been similarly affected by censorship.

there are friends and allies out there helping to build a working parallel infrastructure. keep being vocal, keep supporting these initiatives when it's possible, and keep supporting your nsfw/kink artists. ♥

Hey gang, i need help real bad.Seriously, life is like really tough for me rigt now. So,pretty much, some doushe bag ran into me in a drunk driving incident and now im having some real bad money problems.

This is all cuz i was out getting some drinks with my fwb & and it was night time and real dark & shit so when i tried to merge (thought nobody was there) some idiot was right there,apparently.

Thankfully i got out real easy cuz only the driver of the other car and my buddy got hurt since he was givin me crazy car head & smashed his head on my wheel & got a concussion i think.

The other drive is still in a coma & his psycho ass wife keeps bitching at me bout how i gotta pay for everuthing which i think might be illegal from the harassment act

It was real ugly and basically im traumatized by The blood & shit & that guys banshee ass wife who isnt even pretty by the way has kind of traumatised me.

Pretty much, im not really insured so i got to pay for everything from my pockets,which, is very close to empty.

My booze is running out to which is pretty bad & shitty cuz i gotta drink to deal with the pain snce i dont even vibe with therapist bull shit.

Pretty much, even if i had the money to numb my pain with DIY/tradional medicine i cant even drive w/o keeping a breathalyzer in my car now which im prety sure is rigged as fucked since even if i only drank a litle bit it still fails.

The process of getting a hEDS diagnosis can be beyond confusing. The nature of hEDS as a diagnosis of exclusion means that there are many steps to ensuring that a problem is actually hEDS and not another disorder that looks similar.

When people are navigating this diagnostic process without the guidance of doctors that are familiar with the hEDS diagnostic process they often end up missing other causes of their symptoms. It's not uncommon for disorders like lupus or even other types of EDS like cEDS and clEDS to go undiagnosed in this process. Some of the disorders that can look like hEDS can be lethal without (and sometimes even with) the right interventions so it's important to get an accurate diagnosis.

I created this chart as a way to simplify the steps for a hEDS diagnosis. This chart is definitely imperfect as it's hard to capture all of the nuances in ruling out hEDS differential diagnoses but I hope this helps make the process easier to follow.
