-Find The Armor of Belief John Mayor said it beautifully in his song Belief. "Belief is a beautiful armor, but makes for the heaviest sword, like punching under water, you never can hit who you're trying for, some need the exhibition, and some have to know they tried, it's the chemical weapon, for the war that's raging on inside." To believe is to have faith. Faith that things will work out. Faith that you will have the strength to fight your doubts. Belief is a heavy sword, but it's power is grand in all regards. One of our most overlooked powers in life is the unbelievable power of our beliefs. The dictionary defines it as: 1 : a state or habit of mind in which trust or confidence is placed in some person or thing 2 : conviction of the truth of some statement or the reality of some being or phenomenon especially when based on examination of evidence A belief is something that we choose to form in our own minds about the way we choose to perceive the world around us. It is our recognition that some idea or thing is true and valid. Our beliefs are based off of our perception of life, which is based on our experiences and knowledge about life. Just because we see something a certain way, does not necessarily mean that’s the way it actually is in reality. Perception and reality are two different things. As we grow older and learn new things, we realize that certain assumptions we had at a younger age were not as accurate as the new view we now have of the world. We need to understand that all of the things we think we know about the world are only the best assumptions we can make using all of the things we have learned up to this point. We learn and grow and now know more about how to interact with the world, and how to create a life that continuously makes us fulfilled at higher and higher levels. Most of us are scared of the unknown. We like to feel safe and comfortable. We like order. We will fight to keep things the same. We don’t like it when something threatens to change the way we see the world, even if it is for the better. We would rather stay exactly where we are, no matter how bad things can be, rather than try to get there from here even though it could make things one hundred times better for us when we get there, we fear that it has the chance to make things just a little worse, and end up doing nothing. Many of us really don't know why we are here, or what we are doing. That’s why a lot of us don’t like to change even if it's for the better and we would rather just try and stay busy. Beliefs can truly empower us or keep us caged and comfortable. Beliefs are that powerful. We got most our beliefs from others, and were not based on our own better judgment. We have beliefs that are self-limiting. We have beliefs that are self-fulfilling. We have beliefs about our purpose. By not having our own beliefs, It’s no wonder many of us suffer and struggle in our lives. We are walking around in a self-created prison based upon ways of thinking that we got from others. To understand what you are supposed to do in life and actually have the courage to do it, starts with your beliefs, and yours alone. Believing in yourself and your capabilities. Belief that you deserve a better life. Belief that it can happen for you despite past failures. Your beliefs are a heavy sword to serve and empower you. Ask yourself which beliefs are still holding you back right now? Write them down, whatever comes to your mind. Make a list of 5-10 beliefs you have, and figure out where they came from. If they are ones you no longer wish to have, write down some new empowering ones to replace them. Make a habit of reading the new beliefs you want to have to yourself every morning which will help you begin to internalize them, and you will be amazed at how much it can change your life. Having the right beliefs aligned with your values and purpose will make the road to there from here feel right. It will give you the confidence that you are going down the right path.
