Season 4 Bellarke Physicality
I’ve been thinking and I’ve come to the conclusion that in Season 4 Bellamy and Clarke will both be more physical with one another than they’ve been before. We saw the beginnings of this in the first episode they were reunited in, in Season 3. 302, Wanheda Pt. 2
Bellamy gently brushes the hair out of Clarke’s face, removes her gag and smiles at her, while promising to get her out.
The next time they meet (303, Ye Who Enter Here) there is no physical touching, but Bellamy does close the physical gap between them when asking her to come home to her people, and when Clarke refuses still hesitates for a bit before turning and leaving.
In 305 (Hakeldama) the pair have a very necessary argument that culminates in the infamous handhold turned arrest. This is a move initiated by Bellamy, but enjoyed by both. You can see Clarke’s thumb rubbing across Bellamy’s wrist (ditto for Bellamy’s), she’s actually holding his hand in both of hers and the handhold lasts until Clarke says Bellamy’s trigger word (”we”).
Bellamy and Clarke don’t meet again until Nevermore (episode 311), but when they do the physicality has definitely been stepped up a notch. Even upset with one another they are still very physical. The first instance of this is Bellamy physically removing Clarke from Raven, placing his arm around her waist and bodily lifting her into the next room.
Then we immediately follow up with the Bellamy wraps Clarke’s hand scene, Clarke’s eye movements are important here, she’s in disbelief, she’s not used to being patched up, it’s usually vice versa, it means a lot for her to be the one on the recieving end of the medical treatment this time around:
And the Clarke checks on Bellamy’s already wrapped hand scene, again another important scene, because Bellamy’s hand is already bandaged here, and the way Clarke softly runs her hand over it to check for damage while Bellamy’s eyes run over her face is typical “Conceal, Don’t Feel” for romantic couplings that aren’t yet canon.:
Episode 312 (Demons), sees two examples of the ever increasing Bellarke physicality. The first is the moment where Clarke runs into Bellamy’s arms after Monty is taken by Emerson. She is desperate and afraid and rests one hand on Bellamy’s chest, while he grabs the other arm in his hand.
The next interaction is Clarke grabbing Bellamy’s radio from his waist. The lack of physical boundary here is very interesting, not only does Clarke not even think about touching Bellamy in such an intimate place, but Bellamy actually lifts his hip to better accommodate her actions. It speaks of an additional level of intimacy that hasn’t been explicitly stated yet.
In Join or Die (313), we of course get our 3rd Bellarke hug, it is Clarke initiated and she throws her arms over Bellamy’s shoulders. Bellamy doesn’t hesitate to return the embrace, placing one hand at the nape of Clarke’s neck, he closes his eyes and turns his face into her neck (typical when one is also trying to smell the partner they are hugging-it’s a comfort instinct) and Clarke also has her nose in Bellamy’s shoulder, before re-positioning herself, closing her eyes and giving a small smile. Bellamy is actually re-positioning himself to continue the hug, when he spots the Mermen and breaks the hug to move Clarke behind him.
Red Sky at Morning has two more Bellarke touches, the first was one I couldn’t find a GIF for, when Bellamy casually touches Clarke’s knee as a signal for her to get up so they can approach Luna about taking the Commmander’s chip, again a very casual, no-thought-behind-it touch implies a certain level of comfort with invading one another’s spaces.
The second is the scene where Bellamy helps Clarke up after they are thrown into the Cargo Box, he grabs her forearm and leverages her off the ground. It is his first instinct to go to her and offer her his help getting off the ground. He visibly checks to make sure she’s OK, she checks him over as well and then they both move towards the Cargo Door.
Perverse Instantiation Part 1 has another 2 touches, the first when they are talking to Roan in his cell and Roan stands, they both move closer to one another instinctively., their movements are in sync and there is no questioning of why, I couldn’t find the exact GIF, but I did find a scene close to it.
The second is the moment when Bellamy and Murphy storm the throne room. Bellamy’s first move (after shooting Jaha) is to run to Clarke and free her. He doesn’t move from that position until Clarke tells them to stop Ontari’s bleeding.
And last but not least, Perverse Instantiation Part 2, we had 3 significant Bellarke touches. The first is the handhold moment. It’s important because Clarke reaches for Bellamy when she is afraid and in need of comfort. Her mother is in front of her and is ostensibly doing nothing and yet Clarke still chooses Bellamy as her source of comfort.
The second is when Clarke takes the chip, Bellamy could have easily given the chip to Clarke by placing it in her hand. Instead he chose to place it in her mouth directly from his own hand, and briefly grazes her lip with his thumb while doing so.
And the last moment is the arm touch that Bellamy does not let go of for the entire last five minutes of the show. He helps her up from the throne and then does not release his grip on her arm for the rest of the episode.
Based off of this evidence, I fully believe that Bellarke will touch more than ever in Season 4 and I can not wait!!!!!
