My personal headcanon is that Rich didn’t realize the squip was bad until after he gave it to Jeremy. He figured the pros of the squip outweighed the cons, so when the squip suggested giving one to Jeremy he was totally on board. He just wanted to help Jeremy and was happy that he wouldn’t have to hurt him anymore. It was after he saw what happened to squipped Jeremy that he realized what the thing was doing and what he’d become. He watched Jeremy go from a nice but awkward boy into an asshole like himself, and that’s when he realized he wanted it out.
