Development Blog for Yggdrasil Saga: Mourning Dew Mourning Dew is a fantasy adventure/roleplaying game using the RPGMaker VX Ace engine. It is currently in development for the 2015 Indie Game Making Contest.

Hey there I'm also a game maker. I thought your arts were charming! Do you like making pixel art ? I was wondering if you were using a specific scale for your draws like 50x50 or something like this. I also want to use pixels and I wasnt sure.

Thank you! I do like it but i don't have much experience with it. That being said i didn't really keep a specific dimension in mind when making the sprites (it probably would have been easier in the long run if i did haha)But i kept custom objects within the default 32 x 32 square. I also had a 32 x 32 grid over my maps when i drew them so i could try to line things upI hope this answers your question :)

Edit: Added in most of the light puzzle. The light beams don’t change color, still. But for the most part it works.?

Full Game v.1 is done! Technically I still have one more puzzle to do, but it’s very complicated to make and i just can’t get it to work. My brother made a script for it, but there are parts I’m having trouble with and he is probably not going to be able to help me before the deadline (he has to go to work and is already asleep)

So in v.1 of the game, you just skip that part. If i can fix it by the deadline (or heck maybe even after the deadline) then I’ll add it back in and upload “v.2″

Other known issues that I can’t figure out how to fix are that using a mana berry doesn’t update how many are left. And it’s still hard/impossible to stun enemies the way I was hoping it would. Luckily as long as you dont get cornered you can still manage to get away.

That being said, there may still be bugs or weirdness that I didn’t catch, so if anyone can play this before the deadline tomorrow (which is 11:59pm UTC, so 4:59pm in pacific time I believe?) then I will be very grateful!

Either way, please enjoy the finished game! It was fun to work on, even though it was also stressful at times hehe. I also learned a lot! (Though there are still some things I can’t figure out) So hopefully my next game or revision of this game will be even better <3

 I’ve added the Bygul & Trjegul content, while making some of the text more readable (transparent background made it hard to read). And also fixed some other things.

I only have one more map to draw, and one chapter + the two endings to code. I should have most of that done tomorrow night, if not all!

Alrighty, I think I’ve got a working demo haha!

It’s the beginning of the game, and has a lot of dialogue/cutscene, but should give you a feel for what I’m making?

Since the rest of the game doesn’t have as many cutscenes and what not, it should be quicker for me to get assembled.

Also since I had to basically re-assign all my parallax backgrounds with a new script. and a lot of other time-consuming fixes…

- The stealth mission is a bit wonky if a human sees you.            (Just uhh don’t get caught!) - Ercea and Alreya don’t have dialogue pictures (Will only do if I have time..) - The stamina bar appears for a split second at the beginning & likes to linger             during transitions.. - Laggy when you return to Heartwood - Need more expressions for Elifa if I have time.. - I wish I knew how to make voices??? - Loading a save up tends to not know if certain switches are enabled (like background changes or character sprite changes) I hope I can figure out why. If not I’ll just recommend people play it in one sitting. It might not even be an hour long when completed../shrug

I’ll replace the download links with updated ones as I finish more of the game.

If you do choose to play this demo in any of its versions, please keep in mind that I am one person with a brother who helped her do the difficult coding. AND I didn’t know about the contest until a week in.. AND I have never really used RPG Maker before this project. I had to learn as I went.

Most of the graphics are custom made by me (All the maps, all the character sprites & art. Some of the object sprites are from the RTP)

I don’t consider myself a writer, not even an amateur one, so go easy on the bad dialogue/plot holes…

Top: finished the maps for Bygul & Trjegul’s Haunt

Center: Hraesvelgr, the Giant Eagle

Bottom: Crystalline Depths (probably my prettiest map, but part of the “optional” maps to get the true ending.)

Only a few more maps left! I might go over the beginning of the game and make sure everything (ie. dialogue, pictures, transfer events etc) is in order tomorrow (rather than when I finish all the maps and puzzles). That way I can post a short demo? Maybe?

Finally got around to finding a title screen script and made a few more maps! Still a ton of maps to go, and a few more sprites.

But my brother did manage to code one of the core mechanics.
