"Hey, you didn't have any better ideas." Keeping Nora fed was a full time job, even at Beacon where they'd had a literal cafeteria to eat at whenever they wanted. Now on the road, whenever supplies became scarce they had to do what they had to do.

Especially when Nora wanted pancakes.

He grinned though, bumping his shoulder gently into hers in return. "Maybe the next town will have a tavern with actual food and not just whatever they can find in the back." A boy could dream.

"Before Nora tries to eat us all in our sleep."

Ruby's giggle at that turned into a snort. "I think Nora would try to eat a Grimm if she thought it'd taste good." She wondered when they might find another town. Each day seemed a dice roll, unpredictable and unforgiving at times.

"But I promise that the next place we stop to eat, I'm buying." Never mind that their Lien was all shared. "I'm dying for a boba and something other than old bread and hard cheese."

✧ Okay, so for those wandering about Saphron's backstory, here's a rundown:

Born second-eldest of her siblings, Saphron wasn't expected to inherit much from the Arc lineage, with her primary interests being in painting and culinary arts. As long as she could do those, she was happy and content in life.

Then, one Vytal Festival, she met Terra Cotta. It was love at first sight for Saphron. They exchanged Scroll numbers and became penpals for a handful of years before becoming long-distance lovers. Unfortunately for Saphron, Terra lived far off in Argus, and Saphron had no means to move or even visit Terra. What Lien she could earn as a line cook was meager at best, even with her family providing a room for her.

Looking for a faster solution, Saphron reached out to an advertised loan-provider in Mantle to get herself relocated. Much to her surprise, Urbia was glad to help and required no downpayment. Her terms for the loan were unorthodox and jarring: have Terra Cotta fall in love and marry her without proposing or ever speaking her own feelings. If Saphron thought of sharing her feelings or the secret pact to anyone, her Aura would alight with phantom pains...like knives or needles digging into her skin. And if Saphron failed, then she would die on the morning of Terra's wedding and all the years she might live would become Urbia's. But if Saphron succeeded, Urbia would not need any payment.

Saphron was hesitant, but what choice did she have? She wasn't wealthy or especially skilled, and she refused to take her parents' Lien when they had seven other children to care for. She agreed and used the loan to move to Argus, shortly moving in with Terra thereafter. Needless to say, despite the trials and tribulations, Saphron and Terra were able to fall in love and live happily ever after in Argus.

To date, she is one of the few people who walked away from one of Urbia's deals the victor.

There was a strange duality of hating to see Terra so worried while loving the compassion her wife displayed. It was a sort of bittersweet experience. "I just need to sit, really." Saphron gave a winded laugh as she was aided back onto the couch. Her own hand had swollen joints, causing the dainty fingers to become achy and rounded. She still held Terra's hand in spite of that.

"I'll be up again in a few minutes, I'm sure." She hated staying put. Saph wanted to do ten different things at once to put her own touches in their home. Nesting was what the doctor called this; an urge to soothe herself by ensuring a comfortable, safe environment for their baby. "I wanna finish the bookshelf in the nursery today. Can't do that from here, ya know?"

"Are we though?" Ruby smirked playfully while she shoulder-nudged Jaune along their path to the next village. "Pretty sure I caught you and Nora trying to make pancakes out sawdust and water last week." Supplies had been short and Nora was craving carbs and sugar. Left her desperate enough to pull together whatever was nearby for a hit.

...Never mind that Ruby had missed sugar enough to even give the sawdust pancakes a try.

Summer sighed with a smile. "That's a vague question." There was a lot that Summer wanted out of life. She wanted to make Vale the most peaceful kingdom in Remnant, she wanted to leave her mark as a Huntress, and...maybe one day, a home of her own, one she could protect all on her own.

"For today? I wish that the weather was a bit warmer. This spring has been flip-flopping too much for my liking." She wanted soft, dewy mornings and pleasant, sunny afternoons. Not this back and forth between humid heat brought in from the east and bitterly cold winds from the north.

Ruby couldn't look Weiss in the eye. She'd gone to a dark place within herself during their time in the Ever After. If she'd been honest, the breakdown and crashout were both a long time coming. It'd been building up ever since the Fall of Beacon...Ruby had just been putting it off because there was always something more important than herself to focus on.

"You don't have to apologize. It was my fault that things went the way they did..." Weiss wasn't responsible for Ruby's well-being. That didn't fall onto anyone but herself. Well, maybe Qrow now...but that was a different problem. "I'm sorry that I couldn't...that I didn't share what was happening with me."

[ EXHAUSTION ]: the sender (Weiss), surrounded by nothing but uncomfortable places to rest in, finds a solution by sitting in the receiver’s (Ruby’s) lap in order to rest and possibly sleep. ((Early V7, methinks.))

Ruby's tired expression softened. They had been working for hours now on all these side missions and escorts to get Amity up and running that both she and Weiss were wrung dry. And now it was obvious by Weiss crawling into Ruby's lap for a rest.

Her hand cradled the back of their head while another looped around their side. "You look like you need coffee. Hanging in there?" They needed a break beyond naps, but naps would sustain them for the time being.
