kj charles is a great queer historical romance author to get into if like me the only thing you do with all of the rest of your spare time is look at weird pre-1930s genre fiction, antique erotica, silent movies, and trashy penny dreadful covers, and also if you like to see men getting beaten up and you hate the government,

Well this book series has me in a chokehold. I can't make crackvids because it's not a tv series but I CAN make a vine compilation, so here you go! 8 and a half minutes of the Ricardians being ridiculous but it's just vines.

Only, those bright, wispy colours just don’t work for most KJ Charles books. And the butterflies in the original meant I pretty much had to pick The Secret Casebook of Simon Feximal to do up romance cover style. It even had enough animals to replace the ones in the original…though they’re much less friendly animals. So I sacrificed the colour scheme in favour of keeping it closer to the tone of the book, but kept the very stereotypical romance novel composition.

Little art deco illustration of Saul from KJ Charles's Spectred Isle, which is one of my very favorite supernatural/fantasy queer romances. I think about it literally all the time lmao. It's so atmospheric and clever and funny and full of love and mystery and all of the main characters are so darling, especially in the audiobook!!! I was sold on it immediately when like 5 pages in it started talking about spontaneous combustion. idk i could talk about this book forever, every time one of my friends brings it up on discord i experience a category 5 autism event lol

It's set in the 1920s and it feels so art deco to me, like one of those illustrations of the era full of graceful lines and beautiful liminal feeling gardens and forests, so this is partially a redraw/digital collage using an André Édouard Marty illustration which is actually from the 1940s I believe but still felt like the right style. I kept giggling drawing this like ough he's just a little 1920s guy, pleasant as the morning dew, confused, upsetti

Anyway sorry for blorboposting for two paragraphs but you should read this book im normal about it (said while visibly vibrating)
