I don’t know about ya’ll but season 8 was my last straw. If there was ANY intention of making buddie canon, it would have happened this season. All the PR they did this week feels wrong now. I hate using the word queerbaiting but that’s what it feels like. I’m kind of done with the hopes and expectations.
It boggles my mind that we saw Hen and Karen losing their minds when Mara wasn’t under the same roof as them even though she was with people they trusted in Maddie and Chim…and then we see Eddie just…not taking any action when it comes to Chris being IN A COMPLETELY DIFFERENT STATE FOR 6 MONTHS. Make it make sense. Not even one conversation between Buck and Eddie about the situation is completely unrealistic. They are really moving at a snail’s pace.
It definitely looks like Tommy is going to be in this scene based on the hands on the bottom left of the picture. There’s no way Buck and Eddie would be shaking hands if it was just the two of them alone. If Eddie does use that first aid kit on Buck, I think Tommy might look at their exchange with raised eyebrows and it gets awkward so they do this weird handshake to put distance between them because Tommy is there. 🤷🏻♀️ Just my two cents…
Just the idea of a jealous and isolated Eddie Diaz realizing he’s gay has me so emotional. I can’t believe we might actually see it on screen. I won’t survive 😭
Oliver & Ryan being supportive and validating Buddie stans
When it comes to non-canon ships in fandoms, usually they are very heavily critizised by the actor(s) to the point they dismiss it or mock it and it’s usually worse with queer ships. When 9-1-1 was on FOX, the network in recent times has been known to shut down a lot of things, example: Bi Buck. Based on educated spectulations, Buddie and Gay Eddie were suppose to have been canon prior to Tim Minear leaving the first time but they were all shut down by the network (or at least people higher up) during this time Oliver refused to engage in anything Buddie for fear of being called out for queerbaiting and he wanted to avoid that - prior to this he was liking Buddie fan art on Instagram and Ryan spoke about them a couple times on lives in a lighthearted manner. The showrunners at the time of season 5/6 were the ones openly mocking it.
Season 7 was wild, after being moved to ABC and getting Tim back, we had Oliver and Ryan talking about Buddie a lot in interviews. Oliver mentioning that he sees Buddie fan art and fan edits and that he shares them with Ryan, who also confirmed the same thing. It even went as far as Oliver confirming what we always said that Buck was always bisexual and was gonna play him that way if he didn’t become canon. Ryan now commenting on how happy he is that queer people see themselves in his character (who is currently canon-straight) is insane, aside from the fact it confirms what we all knew about Eddie being heavily queercoded but that Ryan just valides it and also finding out that Eddie WAS in fact suppose to be the original of the two to be canon queer in s7 (and possibly s5 during Ana’s arc) and saying that Eddie is ambigious. Having Oliver in an interview saying he’d be ‘down’ for Buddie if it were to happen and that Buddie fans aren’t wrong and he sees it as a potential story, also saying that he sees it too. To then go out of his way to say that with all the edits he sees it’s HARD to NOT play it the same way or be swaided, even joking about a buddie wedding (which he brought up). Ryan also saying that he’d be ‘down’ for it and if it happens it’ll be baby steps. Whilst, joking about seeing edits and questioning himself whether they’d actually filmed those particular scenes, insinuating that the way they looked at eachother or certain scenes that came across in a certain way was confusing him as to whether they filmed it or it was edited that way (it was filmed that way lol). Oliver posting Buddie stills on his Instagram throughout the season and even liking buddie fan accounts. Buddie art and ‘the thumb’ post from the season finale, which was the only thing he acknowledged about the finale. Both Ryan and Oliver blush and smile when talking about Buddie…like they are serious!
Also knowing they came up with the ship name and not the fandom is everything. They appreciate queer fans and they validate everything. The fandom is truly so lucky to have them as the actors of this ship.
If they didn’t like it, as some people claim 🙄 they wouldn’t mention or acknowledge it. They just wouldn’t say anything or they’d dodge it.

The writers and Tim Minear were able to bring Bobby/Athena, Chim/Maddie, and Hen/Karen together over the years…but they are fully incapable of giving Buck and Eddie love interests that matter and mean something. I know that Oliver and Ryan have very powerful on/screen chemistry that’s hard to match but my god…Buck/Tommy is just not working for me and don’t even get me started on the Eddie/Marisol/Kim mess. (Hopefully Eddie is done with both of them)
The writers need to get it together in season 8. They will have more wiggle room with more episodes to work with. If they aren’t putting Eddie and Buck together (THEY SHOULD)…AT LEAST PUT THEM IN MEANINGFUL RELATIONSHIPS THAT THE AUDIENCE WILL ACTUALLY CARE ABOUT.
I feel like a broken record every year when it comes to this topic. Season 8 has to be the season…and if it’s not…then when?? (Nothing beyond season 8 is guaranteed yet).
They did finally have Buck discover his bisexuality and had Eddie move on from Shannon even if it was in a very bizarre way. The path is as clear as it’ll ever be. So yeah…season 8 has to be the season. Sigh…I’m tired guys…
Trying to figure out how Eddie’s parents and Buck are going to fit into this Shannon look-alike storyline. My brain is too fried at this point to come up with theories. 😵💫
The rest of season 7 looks like it’s going to be Bobby and Eddie centric and I’m so excited for it. Don’t know if that’s intentional or if that’s just how things came together but…it’s interesting and exciting. I just keep going back to conversation they had in 7x05. 👀

Buddie needs to happen. More so for the sake of Ryan and Oliver than ours. I swear they want it to happen more than we do 😂
There has to be a reason as to why we are six and a half seasons into this show and Buck and Eddie are the only main characters who aren’t in a committed relationship. Everyone has their endgame and they don’t…yet… because they are each others endgame. Not sorry, I’m never getting off the buddie train. 😭
