The Power Of WILL is Within YOU
I am not perfect. Nobody is and I believe no one will ever be, but if there is one thing we can all do, is TRY. Not to be perfect but live our lives in peace and harmony. Each and every day my life is different and all I want to do is be a sponge, suck-up the knowledge and learn something out of what life throws at me(&believe me it throws a lot).Besides the education that people go to school for(12 years that is),the most valuable and important lessons are learnt through the power of your WILL.A lot of people take this for granted as a lot of things we do and have become through growing up are shaped by who taught us and our minds. In my 1st year the slogan of the college I attended read, “IT IS NOT WHAT YOU KNOW, IT IS WHO TAUGHT YOU”. This still rings true in my life and over the past 2 months I have greatly understood what I have also been reiterating.
"Listening is a SKILL”, so they say and this is an evergreen truth that has helped me gain knowledge through people that have been in my life (Friends, Family and most sadly my late friend Lebogang “GangStar” Mampie). A lot of our time is spent on useless things that DO NOT improve the quality of our lives and if I started texting this I am sure we could go on and write a book but in this instance, it is about human beings and I. Why you ask? That’s because PEOPLE MATTER, again you ask why? Well that’s because PEOPLE are the only beings in this universe with a SOUL (That's at least the truth I know and it’s arguable, there are other things with soul,i.e MUSIC, but who makes the music? Learning is an aspect of life that one should always seek from any experience and let me tell you my friend, if you go through anything in life, no matter how big or small the challenge...if you come out having learnt nothing; you’ve missed the magic of LIFE.
So there I was doing one of my favourite things which is coach and socially play tennis at Monateness Tennis Club in Soshanguve with my junior coach,Dineo.This is one of the two ways I keep a healthy lifestyle, the other being gym(And trust me, YOU need a healthy lifestyle).Little did I know that day would change my life, teach me a lesson I will never forget and be very thankful even as painful as it might have felt and still is(a little,lol).Mind you I have been playing tennis for the past 15 years(Trust me I'm not bragging,lol) and I have never had an injury other than a small wrist injury which wasn't as painful. They say pride comes before a fall (Batho ba tla reng?) on that day, in that court, PRIDE was nowhere to be seen or even felt. After hitting a great backhand I ran across the court to return a forehand Dineo hit so beautifully and was higher than i could reach, naturally as a tennis player you leap a bit to hit the ball (Which I did) and after I hit that beautifully parallel forehand with the intention of returning it down the line, I landed and stumbled on this little rock that was so jealous, causing me to land twisting back my ankle thus causing dislocated ligaments and 2 fractures. Now for a moment there you were lost because of the entire tennis technicality and that is for a reason, just to tell&show you how much I enjoy the "GAME of LOVE".
On that day I was rushed to hospital with my foot at "quarter past". It was terribly painful and throughout my pain the only thing that was on my mind was anger. Angry that I'm no longer going to do a lot of things in my daily life for a long time to come(6weeks minimum). It took a painful week and a half till the doctor could tell me (Good and Bad news) he has decided not to operate my leg but let it heal , all that meant I had to wait for him to do a check-up and hopefully I'd be better while I have an "ice-cream" on my leg. I started walking on crutches and couldn't do half the things I did. A week was spent at home doing absolutely nothing but watch TV, sleep and think (the latter being what I do most) until I was hit with an epiphany. Ask yourself this question, “Why is it that disABLED people perform better than ABLE bodied people”? The answer is simple and I sure know you will agree that these people TRY hard, if the challenge is big they try harder, and then they never give up and do their BEST. That is the power of their WILL-ingness, to keep trying and end up being 10times better than most of us. Ofcourse this is arguable as there are disabled people out there who feel sorry for themselves, sitting doing nothing and most importantly learning nothing from their experience.
Through the pain and the "ice-cream"(which I still have on my leg&have 4more weeks to go),I have learnt that nothing is IMPOSSIBLE,infact read that word again and you will see that it reads as " I'M POSSIBLE"(That person, whoever he/she is, forgot to put the apostrophe).Through that pain I learnt to do all the things I was doing before the injury, excluding playing tennis ofcourse but I can easily stand on one leg for over an hour with impeccable balance. You might take this for granted as most of us have never had a broken something on our bodies no matter how big or small, but listen when I say you will learn to go through the experience BUT...it all comes from your WILL to learn.
A wise man once said "Knowledge Is Power"(I don't know him),then a year or two ago I met a wise man(Billy Selekane) who told me that the statement wasn't finished and it's probably a tragedy that it wasn’t. He said to me it had to be like this: "The APPLICATION of knowledge is POWER”. We can all possess the knowledge, but greater is the man that puts it into action. I had to learn that lesson through the pain, I had to go through the experience and endure all the challenges, it was all up to me to take it in and open my heart, mind (unfortunately my body, specifically my foot sold me out, lol) and SOUL.I speak about the soul a lot because that is where the truth of life resides. Through it all I kept the positivity alive, thinking and doing positive things which put a smile on my face.
So the next time you see what you think is a dis-ABLED person, think of what you would do if you were in their shoes or maybe not, because everyone has their own experience to go through. The one thing that I know is that I will never take life for granted, I will never hold back, I will do everything I want to do with passion and do it to the best of my ability. No matter how bad the situation may seem, how big or small the challenge, there is always a lesson to be learnt and I hope you will also do the same. My, WILL, rise to the occasion and never give up, never stop trying even if I keep falling, I WILL get up and GO DO IT the best way I know how with all my “TaPaski” (Talent,Passion and Skill) that our dear God has vested in ME.I hope my experience in all this inspires change and re-assures your belief, in YOU. Wise is the man who learns from another man’s experience and people always say “Where there’s a WILL,there’s a WAY”.That statement can’t be further from the truth because It’s a promise to yourself that the POWER of WILL is within YOU.

“It’s all a test, for everybody, even the members of the adjustment bureau. Most people live life on the path we set for them, too afraid to explore any other. But once in a while people like YOU come along and knock down all the obsticles we put in your way. People who realise FREE WILL is a gift you’ll never know how to use until you fight for it, that’s the chairmans real plan…and maybe one day,we won’t write the plan…YOU WILL”.
