The Volkswagen Beetle, a rear-engine economy car that was manufactured and marketed by German automaker, Volkswagen (VW) from 1938 until 2003 was a major highlight during pre-independence and post-independence Nigeria and all around the world at that! This was a car that had it’s origin from the wild dreams of the famous Adolf Hitler. In Nigeria, this car was one of the cars that showed status and eminence. In the south-western part of Nigeria, it was nicknamed “Ijapa”, a Yoruba name for the tortoise due to its tortoise hump like shape. One lesson I have always taken away from these things of old and majesty are that, “Nothing lasts forever!” They are all beauties of yesterday. The Lamborghinis of today are bound to be the old men of the road tomorrow. What counts is what legacies you leave behind. Even machines like the Volkswagen Beetle know this………
