This dialogue... triggers a funny bone in me.

Because it could heavily imply that Cogsworth came out to Lumière as gay (whether intentionally or by complete accident is a whole different can of worms) and naturally, Lumière was absolutely proud of him...

Buuuuut at the same time, it also perfectly fits the idea that Lumière is incapable of resisting a joke.

And I mean a lot of jokes. All the time.

For example, I can fully picture Lumière somehow getting hold of one of Babette’s bras (which, let's be honest, considering Babette, probably wasn’t even difficult for Lumi to get his hands on her stupid lingerie) and showing it to Cogsworth like, “Cogsworth, if you didn't know, this is called a bra,” as though the mf is trying to 'educate' him about women because, clearly, Cogsworth only has eyes for men.

And Cogsworth just stares at him like, “Bitch, I know what a bra is, stfu... and why are you even holding that?!”

Or, in this scenario, Lumiére is stating "it's a girl" and Cogsworth believes he is expressing it in a way that he is mocking him again for not knowing about women. So in this scene, he answers with, "I know it's a girl! I'm gay but I'm not stupid... like you".

But let's be real, in reality, Lumiére said it because he was not expecting a woman to show up after ten years. Even though they saw an old man... who could have helped lift the curse but wtv. The Enchantress never specified, she only said 'someone who could love him and the Beast had to love back'... again wtv.

Anyway, just little jokes like that. Nothing cruel, because Lumière says them so playfully that they never cross too far over the line.

Though, there are moments when Cogsworth feels a bit uncomfortable, like he’s being teased for being 'different', and the second Lumière notices, he stops immediately.

Lumi really does support his dear friend... becausehemayormaynothaveahugecrushonhim *cough*

Listen, at the end of the day, Cogsworth knows Lumière never means any harm. He’s just acting like a little shit who thinks he’s hilarious.

Honestly, the fact that Cogsworth trusted him enough to share something so personal in the first place probably meant far more to their friendship.../relationship — *COUGH* — than they would ever openly admit.

...That's it.

Lumière: "Cogsworth."

Cogsworth: "But quite miserable at the necessity of planning it.”

Lumière (deadpan): "Mm-hmm."

Cogsworth: “It would be an appalling waste of perfectly good magnolias. Though I suppose they would have to be used on something.”

Lumière (leans closer): "...Are you crying—"

Cogsworth: (in tears) “OF COURSE I AM, you paraffin-headed puffin!! Kindly cease these idiotic inquiries at ONCE!!”

Lumière: "Aw~"

Free Day: Human Again

I didn't have anything specific in mind for the @beauty-beast-week free day this year, so I've decided to post this little fluffy Lumiworth scene that I wrote on a whim last month. I'm not posting this one to ao3 because it's so short (and because I might recycle this small segment in a future fic, idk), but I hope you all enjoy nonetheless!

Even when Cogsworth’s feet settled back on the ground, his vision still spun, twisted and tilted. He could process the pale blue of a morning sky hanging off the balcony, and he stiffly held his hands out at his sides to steady himself (and maybe to clutch the banister for dear life if he lost his balance). His pulse—warm, muffled, nothing at all like the firm ticking that he had become accustomed to over the past ten years—was still thrumming in his ears when he was suddenly seized by the shoulders, only catching a whirl of brown and gold before someone’s nose crashed into his, and his gasp was smothered in a kiss. 

He immediately knew it was Lumiere, a realization which only made him more embarrassed. He knew by the warmth of Lumiere’s thin fingers cradling his cheeks. He knew by the way Lumiere’s thick lower lip settled into place against his own, as if their last kiss was only yesterday. He knew by the faint smell of candle wax that still clung to his hair. 

Cogsworth scrambled to push him away, gasping for breath as his mind raced to string together an admonition. What was Lumiere thinking, grabbing him like that in front of everyone? In front of the prince? 

But when he looked up into Lumiere’s face, the words evaporated in his throat. Fat, shimmering tears stuck to his eyelashes and poured over his cheekbones, where they caught in the wrinkles from his smile.

With a quiet sigh, Cogsworth held out his arms. “Come here, you sentimental fool.”

Lumiere clung to him in an instant, squeezing so tightly around his shoulders that Cogsworth could feel his arms shaking from the tension. He reached up to gently place his hands on Lumiere’s shoulder blades. Lumiere’s chin came to rest atop his head, and his tears soaked into Cogsworth’s hair. 

“I thought I’d never see you again.”

“I’m here,” Cogsworth murmured against his chest. “We’re both still here.”
