I wrote an article for janeausten.be about what Jane Austen means to me. I would like to share a part of the (translated) story with you. Dear Jane, “Where shall I begin?” You are like a beacon of light to me. When the fog descends and difficult moments arise in my life, you are the lighthouse that shines its light powerfully and steadfastly. The fog gives way to your stories, which I love to immerse myself in. There, I marvel at the charms of the 18th century. It allows me to pause for a moment, helping me to catch my breath. With a cup of Twinings tea and a blanket on the sofa, I feel completely at home in your words. ‘There is nothing like staying at home for real comfort.’ Life brings changes, and your stories and characters give me something to hold on to during those times. Change can be difficult, but as in your stories, it is then that the most beautiful moments come your way. Feelings ebb and flow, and in between, you held on tightly to yourself, to who you are.
