Rich! Luffy x Poor! Zoro

One of my favorite tropes in any fanfiction I read. Imagine the angst worthy ideas considering their characters.

Zoro is all about doing things himself. Being independent and not needing anybody's help as he believes that his problems are solely his problems and nobody else.

Luffy is the opposite of that. He doesn't like seeing his friends struggle with things that he knows he could help with. So imagine how he feels when he finds out his own boyfriend, his zoro, is struggling with rent and staying fed. So of course, luffy paid his rent without thinking about how zoro would feel about it, or maybe he did know and he just ignored it. A small disagreement would be worth knowing zoro was a bit less stressed.

Of course, zoro doesn't react like that. He's angered at the fact luffy felt that much pity for him to pay for zoro. It felt as if luffy was trying to buy his love. Or maybe to show off his wealth, to show zoro that luffy was in reach for now but all it would take for luffy to leave him was luffy finding somebody on par with him, in finances and personality. Zoro knows he's being absurd for thinking luffy cares about money out of all things but its still the biggest insecurity in his mind because what normal person wouldn't have that gnawing thought every time they were reminded their partner was on a completely different level then them?

Underrated AU(s) in the zolu tag

Going through the Zolu tag on ao3 made me realize there's barely enough modern AUs with Zolu. I find a one-shot if I'm lucky once in a blue moon but a girl craves for more modern universes as zolu-centric. Any recs appreciated and if anybody's writing any (as in its posted and ongoing, I'd love to be rec'ed as well)

Besides being zolu centric, I'd honestly just take straw-hat-centric modern aus.

Need more of these AUs even if there common :

College based AU's when the authors describe everybody's majors and their housing/ roommates set-ups. It's literally my favorite niche because tell me more background information, I love to see how people would characterize the straw-hats outside of their universe.

High school AUs describing what kind of student they are and what their EC's would be and where they would work as their part-time job.

Job AU's where they probably work in the same job, somehow, considering the differing intelligences between some of them.. (zolu compared to the rest of the straw-hats)

thinking about how none of the strawhats have ever known a luffy without zoro.

everyone joined the crew to witness this oddly content and peaceful, terrifying duo. their dynamic is sweet and funny, almost gentle, something you would expect from childhood friends who have been next to each other for so long they don’t always need words. and then again, they are something else when they are in battle.

they trust each other like they are extensions of themselves, they know each other inside and out like they are telepathic, they get each other so completely.

i’m sure everyone who joined the crew looked at them and must’ve thought at one point that there has never been a time where they have not known each other. until nami tells them, oh, they met a few weeks before i joined.

the shock that must come from learning their bond is nearly as young as all of theirs, and not a product of existing next to each other for years.

how baffling it must be to watch them save each other like it’s breathing, to rely on each other without question or thought in fights, and to realise they only spent such a marginal time alone before everyone else began to join them.

to never know a luffy without zoro, or a zoro without luffy, it must be hard to ever imagine a time where they weren’t by each other’s side.

PostTS Luffy realizes how Zoro blames himself for not being strong enough and weak. Not that he speaks about it but they never needed to speak out loud to know what the other thinks and feels. Even after he brings victory after victory to them it's still the same. Luffy thought Zoro would know how he appreciates him and never would blame him for something like that. But perhaps this is one of those rate times where he should speak his mind out loud to Zoro. So he starts to praise how amazing Zoro's moves were, how cool he looked, how proud he is to have him. That would lighten Zoro's heart and bring a smile to his face.

The zolu-obsessed part of me watching this film wished for Luffy to have a bigger reaction to zoro getting taken away from the crew. From him.

ZoLu is such a Luffy-positive ship, I really can't fathom people actually trying to argue that it's disrespectful, wrong, or "icky" to ship him with Zoro, of all people. Like that's his person! Ship ZoLu platonically, romantically, as a QPR, whatever. They are wholesome and healthy and they fit together perfectly! You're not doing anything wrong by recognizing that.

the funny thing about one piece fandom on tik tok is that a ton of people do either seriously or jokingly ship luffy n zoro but everyone dances around it. like “someone started a rumor theyre dating. ha ha. just kidding. UNLESS…..” and always hinting but never outright saying. like babygirl I see u trapped come start a stan account on tumblr

Smut has no effect on me but any ZoLu interaction will make me blush, squirm, nauseous—they affect me to the point of tachycardia.

They can just be in the same panel and that'd be enough to make me hyperventilate.

you poured your heart and soul and very being into your writing and then put it out there for anyone to read? insane.

you spend a truly incredible amount of time writing novel-length, high quality stories, again, FOR FREE, that anyone can read, again, FOR FREE??

When you love a ship so much, you go to any social media site that will let you actively search it. You let it slowly corrupt your brain to the point you start getting happy when their names are simply used in the same sentence. This is not okay.

This movie was 80% Zolu being silly together and I loved every moment of it honestly. Luffy, after nearly drowning but being saved by his bf, and Zoro, after saving him, literally smelled food and forgot about all their troubles and instantly started eating. They got into a little lovers quarrel because Luffy kept eating all the food but that's okay. Then, they just had to get chained together because they couldn't afford to pay 11 berries for it. Best scenes ever. They're so silly, I love them.
