Introducing our Event System
Hi everyone!
In the last Indiegogo update we asked our backers what they would like to see, and the option “More Behind the Scenes Content” won. We have mostly shown in-game screenshots, so we’re glad to show our Event System for the first time!
On a previous post, we explained our map creation process, but once the initial layout of a level has been defined, it’s time to implement the events. This handy system was written by our developers Jesus and Camilo, and it allows us to easily add NPCs, dialogue, battles, and pretty much everything that happens in the game.
In the scene we’ll be implementing, Rourke is sitting on the floor of a large building, lost in his own thoughts, until Lynn walks into the scene. To make this, the events are created and connected, and it looks like this:
To make create that scene, we make Rourke display an idle animation, then we make Lynn walk up to an specific coordinate in the map, and finally Rourke displays a surprised animation:
There are a whole lot of things that can be done with this system, but we’ll save them up for another post!
P.S. It’s almost the end of the year, so don’t forget to add Long Gone Days to your Steam Wishlist if you haven’t yet!

How do you make such great skin texture in photoshop? I've tried a couple times and it just turns out looking... wrong. Any tips on painting human skin textures?
I do it like this:
First I start with some base colors.
Then I add scribbles.
Then I add more scribbles, and maybe change the layer to overlay or something so it’s more translucent.
Then I blur everything. Or smudge it. Depending on what will look best.
And then I repeat, using a smaller and softer brush as I go. Until I get something that looks like this:
You can also add noise and blur it that way:
But I don’t like noise layers that much because the undertones are always changing, and it’s harder to color. I’d rather just paint the undertone.
That’s really it, though. It’s a controlled scribble.
I use the same technique for stubble, leather, and metal, too. Like a suit of armor? I do it the same way:
You can see my scribbles on Richard’s armor and his leather sleeve.
Hope that helps. <3

January 2017 Update!
Hi everyone,
First of all, happy 2017 from the Long Gone Days team!
January is an important month as it marks one year since we started this devlog and our Twitter (@lgdays). We could never have foreseen the amount of things that happened during the last 12 months, but we are working hard everyday to surpass greater milestones.
We haven’t shown a process pic in some time, so here’s one of a pub, where you can see the original sketch, some of the assets, the color balance, etc. Remember you can see more of these in-progress GIFs here.
That aside, we were recently interviewed at GameRaven, where we discussed about our influences, crowdfunding planning, our love for languages, and more.
Camila: “One of the most important pieces of advice I got was not to over-promise things (things like saying the game will be available on every single console, or stating it will be available in 10 different languages on day 1, etc).”

QUESTION: What would you like to see in our future updates?
As we are making progress in the development, we are working on things that would spoil part of the story, so we’d like to know what kind of things you would like to see on our devlog. We can show more process pics and concept art, as well as telling anecdotes about the development.
Until next time!
