GRADE 8: A NEW DAWN.

Frankenstein was written after the Age of Enlightenment ushered in the Scientific Revolution. Knowledge was now something to be sought and valued. Freedom was something to be struggled for. No longer did Kings rule absolutely - democracy began its first faltering steps towards implementation across Europe, the UK and the USA. I want you to find out a bit about the world that birthed Frankenstein. We will have two library sessions this week in which I would like you, individually, to prepare a poster that has short, informative paragraphs on the following: * Prominent Places - Where did the Enlightenment bloom? Where were the most significant places for debate and discovery? * Famous Figures - Who were the most prominent and significant people who lived during the Age of Enlightenment? What contributions did they make to the fields of art, science, literature or music? * Terrific Technologies - What were the devices and technologies invented during this time that changed the way that people lived? What effect did they have on the world? * Interesting Ideas - What were the main ideas that shaped and propelled the Age of Enlightenment and the Scientific Revolution? Who came up with them and how were they expressed? Can you summarize a few in a sentence? You should aim for a wordcount of no more than 500-600 words on your poster in total. I highly advise that your poster be colorful and well-designed so as to catch the eye. I will assess this. You will receive a grade for this task that will contribute to your end of year report. You need to take as much care as possible in writing, proofreading and presenting it. This task is due on the 22nd of April. If it's not submitted without a nate from a parent or guardian, you will receive a 0 for this task. You will be assessed on the standard MYP criteria. I will be looking at your ability, in particular, to write informatively - that is to say, short, concise sentences, clear, structured paragraphs and the use of headings and subheadings as appropriate.

GRADE 7: LOST!

Year 7's bus crashed on the way to their Garmisch-Partenkirchen field trip. Unfortunately, it crashed on an island somewhere in the South Pacific. Yeah, I can't work out how that happened either. Unfortunately, Mr Stuchbery, was eaten by a bear. Seriously, yes, you heard me right: a bear. Anyway Year 7 are trapped on this desert island. Despite the fact we told you not to bring food, you've got enough candy and jerky stashed to last you six months. YOUR TASK: Written in your workbook, please... 1.
