(premise: either age of calamity or botw based, Link was either assigned to slay, or heard about a strangely coloured, obviously remarkably dangerous Lynel in the Ultria grotto. It was the first Golden monster seen in Hyrule in recorded history, and being Golden, it was on the knife edge between a silver monster and once wreathed in malice. The Master Sword, thusly, reacted strongly to the abomination, and Link could sense it's power through his bond with the blade of evil's bane.)

(i decided to do this because i replicated the aura effect on the blade (i took off my insanity tinted glasses and realised this whole time i had not been using the right primative.)

additional context: Link had just left the Lanayru wetlands and was heading upstream Zora's River, when he got to Inogo bridge though, he saw something awful. A Lynel, seemingly charged with electrical magic heading upstream. Link panicked, thoughts of what would happen if the Lynel got too close to the domain rushing through his mind. At this point, Mipha and Link weren't together but they where crazy for each other, but they hadn't spoken in words about it.

Link rushed at the Lynel with more recklessness than usual, and he badly underestimated it's strength. Link had slain red and blue maned Lynels, but this thing had the strength of something between a white-maned and a silver Lynel, and was electrically charged. No white-maned or silver Lynels had ever been seen in Hyrule at this point and definitely none that where elementally charged.

Meanwhile, Mipha was actually nearby. She had just got done with a training session with her Divine Beast and was heading towards Goponga Village. She wanted to relax a bit and decided to pay them a visit, because they always loved seeing the princess of the Zora and anyway, Mipha wanted to check up on them. It was when she reached a slope near Inogo bridge where she too, saw the Lynel.

At first she didn't realise it was already fighting something, so she reached for the grip of her spear as she began to walk down the slope. Her plan was initially to take a more cautious approach, to examine the Lynel and, when she engaged it in combat she thought, she would play the defensive for just long enough to learn how to fight it and then she would kill it. When she got a lower angle though, she did notice it was fighting someone. And, as soon as she saw the armour he was wearing and the colour of his hair she immediately knew it was Link. He had just blocked a blow from the Lynel but was thrown to the ground. Mipha threw caution to the wind and ran as fast as she could to save him.

(p.s: yes, this is sort of inspired by my interpretation of the side mission "Heart's Escort" from age of calamity. This scene is also set in AoC, as shown by Link's attire and the weapon he carries.)

every so often I get comments on my adventure fics that seem... surprised? at Mipha being competent and strong and able to beat powerful foes, and it's... baffling. like even if you haven't played AOC or don't want to consider it canon, BOTW tells us flat out in the Lightscale Trident's description that "her spearmanship was in a class all its own". not to mention the fact that she's only Champion whose trial in the DLC includes defeating multiple Guardians. that's not the accomplishment of someone weak or bad at fighting! so I don't really understand why anyone seems surprised that I write her as being a kickass heroine. because canonically that's what she is. she is not any less capable than any of the other Champions.
