It’s an extraordinary realisation: to be a woman in the world right now is challenging. And good men - even the good men - find it hard to understand why they come home at night and we’re raging cunts. It’s true, it’s hard. Sometimes, I see my husband, he glazes over and he looks really bored and he wants to run for the hills. But the fact is, things are still pretty hard for girls. And as bad as they are here, they’re even worse in other parts of the world.

So I want to say thank you to all Garbage fans for giving us the luxury of allowing me to be 52-years-old, playing rock ‘n’ roll music, in a male dominated patriarchal system. It’s extraordinary. And I understand that for me to be this age - and to be standing here tonight - is representation for the young girls who are younger than me, who dream of being an artist, whatever kind of artist that might be. I just want anyone here tonight - I mean I want you all to feel this, but I’m speaking for my girls because I’m a girl and that’s just how it is - but I feel this for all of you:
