The term âkinâ and how to use it vs. how not to
I know that many - young and old - are using the terms in below said ways. But this mostly is based on misinformation thatâs getting spread a lot. Please donât feel offended with this post. I donât want to start drama or the like. I just want to clear things up.

What kind of word is the term âkinâ?
âKinâ is not a verb or an adjective, itâs a noun. Itâs the short version of âotherkinâ. If you say âI do kinâ, youâre saying it wrong. If you say:âAre you kin?â, youâre still saying it wrong. Correctly itâd be:âI am an otherkin./I am a âkin./Are you a 'kin?â
âKinningâ and âKinnieââŠ
Furthermore, âkinningâ and âkinnieâ are two other wrong ways of using this word. Those two originally got brought into the community by trolls who understand therianthropes as âtransspeciesâ, therefore they combined â(other)kinâ with the word âtrannieâ to form âkinnieâ.
And âkinningâ is wrong because otherkinity isnât something you (choose) to do, but itâs a state of being. If you want to say that you identify as a lion, then you donât say:âIâm kinning a lion.â No, as an example you may say:âMy (kin)type is a lion./I identify as a lion.â

As said, just a little reminder. Thanks for reading it! đ
While I fully agree with the majority of this post, I do want to point out and politely disagree that the phrasing of kin as shorthand does work grammatically as âI am âkinâ when shortening âI am Otherkinâ. As you are right, Otherkin is a noun. A noun that describes a group, not an individual. Itâs the reason why Iâll also add calling things âkinsâ would be wrong. Since kin is already describing something that is plural and not a singular noun.
âI am a kinâ or âare you a kinâ just doesnât sound right and I donât think Iâve ever heard anyone say it that way.. Rather the phrasing would be âAre you Otherkin?â, hence the shorthand âare you kin?â works and is quite normal. So I wouldnât agree it is wrong to use that way.
Just my two cents! Otherwise fully agreed upon that k*nnie and kinning never were community terms and donât belong in use. Period.

Hm... but do you say:"I see horse"?
Or would you say:"I see a horse." In these terms that would be:"Are you a kin?"
Or? :/
