How to loose your head for Sicily: #madeinsicily to wear. My souvenir from #Taormina has been crafted by @simonamaiolino and tells one of the most know stories of Sicilian tradition: the Moorish head.

According to a legend passed down orally, around the year 1000, during the Islamic domination, in the Arabic neighbourhood of Palermo – the Kalsa – there lived a beautiful girl who mainly spent her days at home, taking care of the flowers and plants on her balcony. The girl’s lovely singing and her biddizzi (“beauties”) enflamed the curiosity and hopes of many men, but the girl did not get familiar with any of them, and instead remained reserved and resisted the wooing of her many suitors. One day, a young Saracen passing under the girl’s balcony spied her as she tended to plants and fell hopelessly in love with her. He immediately declared his love to her and the beautiful girl, struck by the boldness of her suitor, returned the sentiment and succumbed to his charms. Unfortunately, however, the young Moor was already married and even had two children. When the girl learned that he was leaving to return to his family in the East, she waited until nightfall and killed him in his sleep. She cut off his head and made it into a vase, which she use to plant basil and displayed in plain sight on her balcony. In so doing, the young man would stay with her forever. Tormented by the gesture that both separated her from and joined her to her beloved, every morning the girl watered the plant with her tears. It grew lush and aroused the envy of the local residents who, not to be outdone, it is said, had terracotta vases made that evoked the head of the Moor.

Nel mondo del vino succede anche questo. Il produttore risentito che ti rimprovera per avergli dato appena 3 stelle su 5 su Vivino e per avergli abbassato la media... Si impegnasse di più a fare il vino piuttosto che a fare le pulci al libero arbitrio altrui, forse riuscirebbe a strapparmi un mezzo punto in più.
