Hoooooooly hell. Dan Beekman at the The Seattle Times has a truly upsetting story about the alleged blackmailing of council candidate Jon Grant.
Grant’s entire position has been on behalf of tenants—it’s kind of his thing—while his opponent, Tim Burgess, has tended to favor developers and landlords more. So it’s not super surprising that the establishment is panicking a little as Grant’s campaign picks up steam.
This news comes just a few days after the Stranger reported the existence of an **entire PAC dedicated to just smearing Jon Grant.**
Oh, and if you had any doubt that there are like, two very distinct parties being formed (i.e. Burgess/Harrell/Banks vs Grant/Sawant), let us not forget who is co-fundraising:

Look, the City Council races are deeply personal for a lot of people, and there are a lot of reasons to support one candidate over another. But the bottom line is that it’s getting harder and harder to ignore the fact that there are clear allegiances between candidates, and it’s formed two camps: Seriously progressive, active, new (and new-ish) names like Grant, Lisa Herbold, and Kshama Sawant; and middling, somewhat-liberal-but-also-not candidates like Harrell and Burgess and Banks.
Because of the districts, we can only vote in a handful of these races—but Grant and Burgess are running at large, which means the entire city will be voting. These are big races, and they matter.
So, you know. When you’re voting, don’t just think about YOUR district rep; think about who they’re aligned with.
