one of the funniest conversations I ever had with my ex was when they were still getting used to Celsius and asked me "what's 20 degrees?" and instead of converting it, I said "it's the highest your dad will ever let you set the thermostat and when you say you're cold he tells you to put on another sweater, we're not made of money" and they went "oh, 68"
the fact that this reference was that fucking precise was something they went on to tell people about for years.
only there, on a bed of moss and grass would she allow her heart to rest.
Kind of long update on my life:
The kids' last day of school is this Thursday and I've got stuff going on every day except today (therapist check-ins, elementary & middle school "graduations", early release times, etc). To celebrate the final couple of hours I'll have to myself for the next several months, I'm going to the movies today. Got a solo seat for Masters of the Universe at 10:45 AM. There's a good chance I'll be one of the only people there. Which would be perfect, lol.
My mother-in-law gets here next week, so I'll have to spend the first few days of summer cleaning house and preparing for company. Her flight arrives during my work shift. Husband plans to take one kid with him to the airport and leave the other home alone. Which, whatever. I don't care how he handles it as long as I don't need to be involved.
Speaking of Mother-in-Law, I've been bugging Husband to talk to her about setting aside a day on her trip to watch the kids so that he and I can go to the Etruscan art exhibit at the Legion of Honor. He's been reluctant to do ask because he knows that she'll insist on going along. I've told him to frame it as something we want to do as a romantic date, not a family event. Pretty sure he still hasn't brought it up with her. If he doesn't, I'll freaking go by myself. But I am not dragging along two kids and a blind woman. I want to go see this thing for MY OWN PERSONAL enjoyment. I wanted to go just me and him to the Rameses II exhibit and ended up taking along both kids + MIL and it was a nightmare. MIL wanted to walk through at a snail's pace wanting everything explained and described to her because she's blind and can't see it, and the kids wanted to go a bazillion miles per hour because they didn't give a shit. I would be willing to go to the Etruscan exhibit a second time and take everyone if that's what it takes--but I want to get to see it at my own pace first. Seeing as I've been taking care of kids for 15 years straight without a single break, I don't think that's a lot to ask.
In other news, Husband's work did layoffs again. His job is safe, but his team got moved under a new manager. Doesn't seem like it will affect anything about how he works or his schedule. Which is good, because I rely on him being able to work from home on Fridays so that I can do my wildlife hospital shift. I was really worried he'd be back to office full time and I'd be asked to give up the one thing I have which is not about supporting him or the kids. He said he'd switch jobs if it came to that.
Work is busy as heck right now. I finally went and got new shoes, which helps a little, but my feet are still sore when I get home from my 9 hour shift. We have sooooo many goddamned crows right now. Like, 15-18. Somewhere in there. They add a ton to my workload because they eat so much. An equal number of songbirds would require about half a cup of cut berries. 15 crows require a roughly dozen scrambled eggs, three cups of cut fruit, 6 cut up fish, and I don't even know how many cut up mice. I've been cutting up mice for over 2 solid hours of each shift and it's still only just enough to get by.
There is also some more drama going on with one of the other volunteers, Susan. She has been there for 12 years now, and so should be the veteran expert on my shift. But I was promoted to lead over her, which caused a lot of bad feelings. She has also not been allowed to tube pigeons since I started. Which, at the time, I understood to be a hospital wide thing. That no volunteers were tubing them because they had been seeing a lot of crop ruptures. But no one has let her start doing it again and staff has taught me to do it instead and impressed upon me that I am the only volunteer on my shift who is allowed to do it. Well, last week, staff pulled me aside to say that Susan is now not allowed to syringe feed finches anymore. No explanation why, just that the volunteer manager informed staff that she's no longer allowed.
It has got to be that she's doing things wrong and hurting birds. I can't imagine any other reason they'd be taking away her clearance to do things and being so cagey about it. Makes me wonder what they'd do if I ever hurt a bird though. I wouldn't want them to just quietly take me off tasks and never say anything. Will have to have a chat with staff on Friday during the evening portion of my shift when the other volunteers are gone. Maybe find out more about what's going on with Susan and ask them to please just tell me if I fuck up.

number one rule! never believe ur thoughts after 10 pm . unless its about The Character then believe all of your thoughts wholeheartedly
Sometimes you hear a song and a fic pops into your head full formed. This is a trap. The fic may be fully formed in your brain, but you still Have to write it down. This is an important step that most people forget about.
If you met someone with the same last name as you, how surprised would you be?
Not at all, it's very common
A little surprised, but wouldn't immediately assume a connection
I would be surprised and assume there was some relation
I would be very surprised that I *hadn't* met this person, we must be related
Does anyone else with this last name even exist?
