Been sick for a few days with some variety of head cold. Can hear fluid swashing around in my left ear. Hoping that will just resolve on its own when my sinuses clear…

Squinting through my Haladriel/Saurondriel goggles at Celeborn in the S3 teaser like…
(Yoinked this from LinkedIn, genuinely interested in seeing how responses align with demographics) (so far it’s those of us over 35 being indignant but I wanna see how those fully plays out) (it’s cultural and technological history/memory, bruh)

Since all my social media feeds are Greek mythology heavy these days with Odyssey content, I figured I’d swing in an adjacent direction and finally read The Bull From the Sea, which has been in my to read pile since *high school*. I picked it up right after finishing The King Must Die and then just…never got around to it.
Imo, the first book was better because Crete and the Minotaur and the Bull Court held everything together in a compelling way where this one is more loosely structured without a solid through-line other than Theseus being king. But it’s been fast, satisfying reading nonetheless. Not sure why I put it off for so long. 🤷♀️
writing is the most insane hobby it's like,
is it easy? no
is it fast? also no
but is it fun? well,
polar expeditions were insane there’s just like a 200 year period in history where every european man on planet earth was simultaneously struck by the urge to run off and die horribly at one of the poles
i made a post like this before but I can't find it now. so. I'll just redo it.
What's the first "big news story" you remember from when you were a kid?
It's something I love to ask mixed-aged groups sometimes because I think it's really interesting to see the responses. I've gotten answers from the Olympics of [whatever year] to Watergate to more recent stuff from my niblings.
My first news thing I remember is the OJ Simpson trial. I vaguely remember watching the news with my grandparents before that, but that's the first story I remember, in part because my second grade teacher had us go play so she could watch the verdict 😂
Husband and Eldest are spending today packing. They fly out tomorrow for Wisconsin and are going to spend a few days at AirVenture. Wishing them a MUCH better time getting there and back than I had going to MT with Littlest. *fingers crossed*
Also hoping for good winds to clear the wildfire smoke out for them while they're there. We've had quite enough of that already as Californians, thank you very much.
I, meanwhile, have embarked on a Whole House Overhaul Cleaning Spree. I've got a to do list that's 76 items long. I've been working on just the kitchen now for two solid days and am only about half way done with it. Going to be one hell of a long haul, apparently.
need a polite way to say "im not engaging in a discussion on this topic with you because the conclusions you have reached are based on so many interwoven layers of misconceptions it would be easier to just like, hard reset your whole brain, just start over as a baby and try again"
Okay. I was on my beloved AO3 and I saw something that made me do a double take. So, now I really want to know…
What is your AO3 user ID?
I’m an OG user 5 digits or less
Six figures baby!
I’m in the millions…
I’m so curious to see how long people have been on AO3! I know some people have been on there since beta/invite only, but I would love to see what the number is on tumblr!
This song has single-handedly taken over my life and it’s only been like a week
me the first time i saw this: oh sure that's fun ig
me seeing it again now: fuuuuuuuuck yes the axolotl is back
My students literally request this song regularly.
Peppers are the spicy of the fire, mint is the spicy of the ice, carbonation is the spicy of the air, and vinegar is the spicy of the water.
Ginger is the spicy of the earth.

I have told my mom that I will digitize all of the family genealogy research she and my dad did, and to that end I brought home one of the (six? seven?) binders she has. This one covers my grandmother’s family on my dad’s side. Started working on it today and it goes back to the freaking 1500s. They all pretty much came from either the Baden area of Germany or small towns in Alsace. Alsace flipped between being German or French about half a dozen times. And then when they eventually moved to Russia (in an area that is now Ukraine), they named their villages after places in Baden & Alsace.
So, I’ve got situations where one person is born in Alsace, France. Their wife is born five years later in Alsace, Germany. Their kids are born and it’s France again. Their kids’ kids move to Russia to a village named the same thing as their home town but in a geographic area that is occasionally marked in the records as Ukraine. And said village now no longer exists because the German towns along the Volga were cleared out, resettled, and renamed.
Going through all this with the Husband, and he was like, “How come your family was attracted to all these hot potato areas?”
I dunno, man. 🤷♀️ Bad luck, I imagine.
The pictures are great though. Some seriously stern babushka looking ladies in my lineage.
