Rowan had spent a good chunk of his life standing up for Tommy, more than ready to get into a fight with racists or blood supremacists or people who just could not appreciate his warmhearted nature. If someone so much as looked at him funny, Rowan was ready to throw down. Of course, Tommy was normally ready to hold him back. This was not one of those days, so now Rowan was nursing a black eye and Tommy was fretting him in a way that would rival Mona Rosier and Ivy Parkinson combined. “It’s not like I cursed him. And really, I am not going to go to the hospital wing for a black eye. It will heal on its own. Plus, I’ll probably run into him there.” And the perpetrator sure as hell looked worse than Rowan. “And then I’d have to kill him and dad would have to break into jail to bail me out, so it would be a whole thing.”

Tommy wished he knew more about magical medicine at times like these. Times when Rowan’s just nature got him hurt. He knew a decent amount about magical plants due to his herbology hobby, but any decent mediwizard or healer would have Rowan healed in thirty seconds. The best Tommy could do was hand his best friend an ice pack and crease his face into a worried frown. He half wanted to leave for the greenhouse to pick some soothing herbs but that would involve leaving Rowan alone. That wasn’t an option.

“I would feel better if you did go. Just to have someone look at it and say you’re okay,” Tommy said. “Do I have to call your mom? I’ll call your mom if I have to.”

Really, Tommy wasn’t thrilled with the idea of picking up a phone and calling Mrs. Rosier at what would be a godforsaken time of night in California just to tell her Rowan had gotten into another fight. Tommy shook his head.

“Maybe I won’t call your mom... but you can’t do this anymore! I don’t care what the he said, it’s not worth it if you get hurt over stupid stuff like that.”
