seijoh š«ššš¬ week 2
this week, weāre recommending our favourite seijoh fics again! (since your friendly fic rec guide ended up selecting all Oikawa fics last week whoops!)
as always let us know if you donāt want to be tagged or to have your fic here!
(credit to the lovely lin from @violetsojuā for her recommendations, truly inspired choices!)
summary: (time-skip) is there anything more ironic than attending a wedding with the girl youāve been pining for all your life? hanamaki thinks this is the height of embarrassment, but heād do anything for you.
review: the premise of this fic is so simple - a man pining after the woman heās loved his whole life, who finally gains the courage to confess to her with the help of a sassy flower girl and the game of fish. but itās beautiful in its very simplicity, thereās intimacy in every word and interaction. iāll just leave you with my favourite paragraph - This is uncharted territory in your friendship, but somehow, it comes easily to you, much like everything else does with Makki. Whether it be talking, laughing, crying, or now, kissing, it always feels safe with him. His arms on your waist, your hands in his hair, lips locked and hearts in time ā you canāt help but think about what a perfect, perfect combination this is.
summary: Post Breakup - What does the first meeting look like?
review: itās amazing how despite the fact that Matsukawa (aka Mattsun) doesnāt get that much focus in the series, the author manages to make you feel as if youāre watching two fully fleshed out characters love and long and ache for each other over the breadth of their years with just under 4k words. i could gush on and on about each imagery and poetic phase (the opening image of ripping a bandaid off! the celestial imagery of the sun never forgetting the moon!) but the line that truly stayed with me is this - love lasts when its true.
title: a star is dying, but the universe wonāt let it
author: @meraki-kintsukuroi
summary: youāre burning out like a dying star but these hands that have loved you even long before will never let you go, even if it means getting burnt too
review: itās so rare to find a Kindaichi fic, let alone one so well written, with lush celestial imagery (sorry, your friendly fic rec guide is a bit of a sucker for stars) and so much human empathy. and better yet, the author, in just a few words, manages to make you consider Kindaichiās relationship with his teammates - Oikawa, the grand king heās served for three years, Kageyama, the tyrant he hated but later realises is only human, his teammates, his universe.
summary: author did not provide one
review: itās just a simple scene - you and Mattsukawa on a bike, riding down a steep hill, but the imagery and the rhythm of every word just immerses you in their world - one of love and silent understandings and golden sunshine and home. somehow it reminds me of the innocence and tenderness of the first flushes of young love.
title:Ā What could you be
author: blessings (on ao3)
summary: For a guy who tries to avoid making friends as much as humanly possible, Kyoutani Kentarou has managed to pick up a really weird, really annoying, really loud one.
review: look - usually i only include tumblr fics, but this Kyoutani - Tanaka friendship fic just had to be included, no questions asked. the humour in this? top notch. the build up of their friendship (with cameos from saeko)? completely realistic and heartwarming. every scene feels lived - when yahaba teases kyoutani for making friends with the karasuno ace (after the 3rd years graduate), when kyoutaniās dog betrays him by giving tanaka snuggles. ack i love it far far far too much.
