Killian on babysitting duty

I feel like it was really important for Killian to watch over Belle in 3x15, because she's the one major character he hadn't yet made amends with.

It was also important that Emma asked him to do it, because it shows that she wanted Belle to know that she trusted him. In fact, I believe that Emma wanted him to make amends - otherwise, she could have chosen to ask David, whom Belle trusted, to stay behind.

Finally, it was important that Killian agreed to do it right away, because it shows again how much control he's relinquishing to her - something that we know must be tough for a proud Captain to do. He trusts her judgement, even when it puts him in an uncomfortable situation. It shows he's serious about turning a new leaf, and about helping Emma.

Although Killian had more motivation to watch over Neal, I feel that a lot of the above applies to their relationship as well. After all, it turned out to be Killian's last chance to repair his relationship with Baelfire, and it's just so important to note that their trust for each other ultimately led to that priceless opportunity.

Wasn't Hook being rude when he said "I'm glad your heart got broken"?

First of all, he said "I'm glad to hear that", and Emma was the one who assumed he meant he was glad she had her heart broken. That said...

Hook has always been painfully frank, often to the point of rudeness, so I don't see why this is worth pointing out. I get that some people want to imagine him turning into a complete angel when it comes to Emma, but the truth is he's always been one to say rude things like that (i.e. inappropriate according to our current social standards).

In 3x06 he told a dying David that Emma "doesn't need your parenting, which is a good thing", and in 3x10 he told Neal "you've already walked out on Emma once" with is pretty insensitive. He says what he thinks, and last night's episode was no exception.

Also remember that he literally said "don't take this the wrong way" - meaning, there is a wrong and right way to take it.

I also get that a lot of people want to use this as proof of how bad he is for Emma. Thing is, you can call him rude, you can call him tactless, but you can't deny his sincerity. He's a no-bullshit kind of guy, so there's no bullshit with how he feels for Emma either.

So my answer is yes, he was being rude. No matter how romantic the next sentiment was, a true goody-two-shoes kinda guy would say "I'm sorry to hear that" or "I never want you to get hurt" etc.

But that's just not his style, and frankly, he wouldn't be as interesting to me if it were.

(P.S. I was away from Tumblr last night after the episode and haven't had a chance to read what other people are saying about this line. I just know it's being brought up a lot!)

My OUAT 3x14 review in 2 sentences

Good: That episode was probably the coolest OUAT episode ever on cinematography alone, and I loved the CS scene.

Bad: I feel like Rapunzel's involvement was forced, and it only made that part of the story (i.e. Wicked taking David's courage) take longer than really necessary.
