Eating disorders are not cute, cool, edgy, and people need to stop romancing them. The first photo was taken in late 2012. I was extremely weak, and could barely walk up the stairs. Is this what you want to look like? Nothing but skin and bones? It’s a horrible way to live and people who support eating disorders likely don’t have one. The second picture is from 10 minutes ago. I’ve gained some weight back, and my body is a little happier. Recovery isn’t easy. It doesn’t take three days to “cure”, but it’s still worth it. Relapsing is normal, and you are not a failure for it. You can do it. I believe in you.

The hotel in all its unfinished glory! The little dirt road is all that exists of the entrance to the hotel. Other than that, you’d have to walk through the woods to get to what would be the lobby…

Legend has it that a young businessman from mainland Japan came to Okinawa, saw the Nakagusuku castle, and determined he would build a hotel next to it as a business ploy. The view of the castle from this hotel would do all the work to attract customers! He started building, just to find out from locals that the land is haunted. Even Buddhist monks from a nearby temple warned him of the restless spirits residing in the caves and forgotten tombs on the land. Hearing the warnings, many members of his staff left and even more followed after mysterious injuries and deaths happened on the job. Not wanting to feel defeated, the businessman swore to stay in the hotel night-and-day until it was finished, just to prove that nothing was wrong. After three nights, he went insane and was committed to a mental institution on the island, where he supposedly still lives to this day. (Although some stories say he committed suicide shortly after becoming bankrupt.)

To make things even creepier, the man started building the hotel without any “real” blueprints. The hotel simply sprawls out over the mountain without any real direction. Reportedly, there are stairways that lead to dead ends and doors that open to nothing at all. I walked up to the warning signs to snap a few photos, but I definitely did not go inside at all. I don’t know how true this particular legend is, but I am not about to find out!
