How do I convince someone that Yumikuri is canon?
Ymir and Historiaās arcs are completely wrapped up in each other. Ymirās interest is considered blatant. Historiaās is considered reading too much into things. She runs into a horde of titans just to tell Ymir her name, then actually does tell Ymir her name while sheās holding her in her arms. She has the gayest shimmery eyes when they all find Ymir in the woods after her kidnapping. She tells Ymir that as long as theyāre together, sheās not afraid (though sheās not sure whyā¦).
When Ymir leaves, Historia dissolves into complete hysterics. Sheās not only upset that Ymir might be beyond her reach, itās that Ymir left her. For Reiner and Bertolt.
āI canāt stand itā¦ Whyā¦? Sheā¦ chose them over meā¦ S-she said weād live for our own sakeā¦ togetherā¦ but now sheās left me behindā¦ā
It isnāt just Ymir leaving. Itās Ymir choosing someone over her.
Itās the two of them not living their lives together.
Then the next time Historia brings it up, she flips the switch to the other extreme; what Ymir does isnāt her problem. Ymir left. The End.
Historia spends an entire arc being severely depressed because Ymir leaves her. Ymir leaving opens up all of Historiaās insecurities and emotional problems, but those are hardly new. Historia doesnāt have a clue who she really is before Ymirās absence, but Ymirās presence makes it irrelevant. She lives in the moment. Where Ymir is.
Her entire scene in the cave is built on her relationships with Frieda and Ymir, with specific callback to the moment she meets Ymir, and her pulling Ymir out of her own Titanās body.
Her final decision to turn down her father comes from remembering Ymir, with the rising sun behind her.
This would already be pretty gay.
Then the other half of the equation is willing to die for her, will risk both their futures just to see her one more time, and wants to marry her.
Their very first scene together, Ymir expresses romantic interest in Krista.
Every single scene after that proves that Historiaās just as devoted to Ymir, even without knowing the words for it.
āLaughing it off when you so much as blushā¦ Iāll never get you.ā
So says the girl as sheās crying, having received Ymirās final regret of the two of them not being married.
This is not platonic-grade relationship building. Reading comprehension suggests that this is mutual, gay af, and both participants have no damn clue how to navigate feelings even a little. I donāt know how to argue that to anyone who says otherwise, because theyāre reading a very different manga.
