if you're sitting on a fanfic idea because you think it's "too weird" or "too niche" I need you to understand something: the internet is VAST and FULL of people with your exact brand of weird. that crackship that makes sense only to you? there are at least 50 people who will read it and go "oh my god FINALLY." but even if there were ZERO? you still deserve to write the thing that makes your brain light up.

Toby is very aware that his dad's maffia involvement and imprisonment have shaped him. And while this doesn't mean he thinks there's anything in particular wrong with him, or sees the value in maybe talking about any of it with a professional, he's aware it was a very impactful part of his childhood and his relationship with his parents and siblings and now his wife and future kids. He knows this. He doesn't write it off like a normal thing that happened. When there comes a natural moment to talk about it with Andy, he does.

Andy, for a long time, and Toby with her until proven otherwise, figures that between the two of them? Toby had a traumatic childhood and it shows. She did not, and maybe it shows. Right until she just very casually mentions something she's "always been uncomfortable with since grandma did-" or something small Toby says just really triggers her in a way she swears she didn't expect but "well I mean sometimes she- but that wasn't-" and they get to have the realisation that actually some of that was deeply traumatic too? As a couple.
