@broadwaybaggins
having a multi year long character obsession becomes like a abstract thought experiment at some point
I, too, would change the entire marketing strategy for my highly anticipated big budget film if Sandra HĂŒller said she would sing
I just watched 365 Days, where Annabeth is absolutely tearing into Toby about his little knowledge of flyover states. And @broadwaybaggins and I were metaing on Andy being from Appalachia and addiction earlier today. I can't find a Barwood, Virginia (her high school) or a clear answer on whether she's from Tennessee or Virginia originally, but I think her growing up in Appalachia makes both a lot of sense and is also very interesting.
I remember @thec0ub talking about Annabeth and addiction earlier, specifically in the context of her relationship with Leo and being afraid she'll cause him to relapse. And that could be such a factor in most of her relationships actually. The fear that one way or another her addiction could always be on the brink of ruining some politics or somebody.
And I'm thinking she's had that happen before. She has ruined somebody, she's gotten somebody addicted before in an environment that it would be hard or impossible for them to recover, and she'll never not take that into consideration now, she'll never not feel guilty.
Also thinking about her talking about with Andy. Coming at it from two very different viewpoints. A proud Appalachian and a secret one. An active addict and a sober one. A angry politician brewing for a fight on the epidemic, and Andy is so not used to feeling like the coward here. Two people who've been to far too many funerals recently.
First of all, if Andy didnât go to the university of Maryland then someone absolutely should have, because I need all the jokes about Terrapins and fearing the turtle that I can get, and Annabeth is a Silly Gal and sheâd definitely make them!
I do remember the discussion about Annabeth and addiction before but oh, to add in that layer of guilt! Maybe she had an injury from high school sports and was prescribed an opioid that she never finished. Maybe her folks had better health insurance than a friend did and she offered to share, or maybe she and friends really were just trying to get high, and things spiraled: she was able to get sober, but her friend wasnât, and sheâll carry that the rest of her life.
I LOVE the potential contrast between Annabeth and Andy, one hiding her roots or at least not talking about them too loudly, one not shying away from them (also? Curveball? Contrast to Ainsley, whoâs never tried to hide her accent because she knows theyâre going to think sheâs a dumb blonde hick anyway, or a bubble-headed southern Belle, but who has class privilege over Andy and Annabeth, or at least the socioeconomic status they grew up with? But anyway) And oh, when those two outlooks clash, along with all their other differences? It would be fascinating actually! The idea of them at a funeral for a mutual friend maybe is devastating. Itâs such a small world, smaller still when youâre from their little corner of it.
@broadwaybaggins brought up a very fantastic point in a reply about toby remembering when his father was on trial and does he not want his children to go through that also
toby is scarred and angry at his own dad for committing murder, for hardly ever being around and emotionally available, leaving them all behind for years in prison. and here he is. tobias ziegler saying he is fully prepared to face prison time. but dont you dare mention his two children. don't dare mention what is going through his mind - thinking about repeating these same mistakes. missing more years of huck and molly's lives because he's not with them. he doesn't want them dragged into this.
Whatever you do donât think about the meetings with the lawyer in the living room of the Brooklyn apartment, meetings that the girls skipped work for and Toby would press his ear against the bedroom door to listen in on, donât think of the four of them sitting in a row in the courtroom in their best clothes, hair combed, shoes spit-shined, Toby putting his hand on Davidâs shoulder because he wonât stop fidgeting and Ma is too distracted to tell him to settle (and Toby canât be more than, what, ten or twelve here? David is five or six maybe?). Donât think of how the lawyer gestured to the children and reminded the court how they needed their father, canât anyone see that, wonât anyone think of them? Donât think about how Toby wanted to cry and scream and punch that lawyer in the face and how he couldnât look his father in the eye.
;-;
Youâre cat coded because I can see you snoozing in the sunlight in a library or lying asleep on an open book or in a cozy armchair
Thank you so much!! This made me smile.
no no, i get it. i can see why you're confused- I want the CANON to be completely platonic, fucked-up exploration of intimacy that transcends human sexuality but never includes human sexuality.
I want to be the pervert that makes them fuck.
#had to be me#canon might have gotten it wrong
fanfic writing culture isnât âoh dang! I wanted to write about this prompt with this character but someone else already wrote it, so now I canâtâ.
fanfic writing culture is always âtwo cakes is better than one. the more the merrier. there can ever be enough fics of this character with this prompt!â
"I did it."
Give these two all the awards, honestly. The tears in Tobyâs eyes. The dawning realization, shock, horror, and please tell me you donât mean it on CJâs.
i. hope you guys know that when i Like your comment and donât respond its not that i Wanr you to explode its just that i donât have anything to say and Yet love you so much still đ
everyone say thank you to that one anne hathaway twelfth night promo image for all it's done for fandom
Thank you Anne Hathaway Twelfth Night promo image! I love you Anne Hathaway Twelfth Night promo image!
Bartlet: The investigation into the leak is focused on CJ.
Toby: They've got it wrong.
Bartlet: Apparently, they don't see it that way.
this is toby's first actual step to not-confessing, and bartlet doesn't take it the way it is, because bartlet also can't believe cj would ever be the leak. he's at his limit, he doesn't know what to believe. he's wrestling with it actually being cj.
(and that next episode with toby in the oval... i'll get there when i get there)
Toby is trying to confess without confessing and Jed is ignoring every hint and breadcrumb heâs given. It hurts so much đ
Am I seriously contemplating writing a fic inâŠsecond person?
love love love when a particularly manipulative character is lying off their ass about something and then throws in one hauntingly genuine line
my dad, talking to my brother about Chicago: It was six blocks from our old apartment
My brother, who has never once lived in Chicago because we moved way before he was born: that literally means nothing to me.
