Not every breed or landrace needs to be "saved" by changing core parts of what it is in order to make it palatable to the modern pet market.

I've said it many times. Just because you don't see them doesn't mean working dogs are irrelevant and unnecessary. Many people, myself included, depend on the dogs for various things. Sure I could support the environmentally destructive factory farm industry by buying my meat from a grocery store, or deter trespassers by constantly sitting outside with a gun. But I don't, because my dogs and their jobs are valuable. I still have meat from last season, my dogs and I eat it almost every day.

Not every working breed is on its way out. Not every pet owner wants or needs a sedate potato version of that working breed. And not every breed or landrace should be turned into modern pets.
