she talks like a businessman, not a teenage girl. i love that. heather chandler is not a girly girl. she would NEVER let anyone see her actual insecurities, which in the film revolve mainly around sex and being inexperienced, and in the musical are…….relatively unclear. i think the musical actually does heather chandler a disservice by taking away her college party moment. veronica is CONSTANTLY rescuing various heathers from sexual situations they don’t know how to get themselves out of, and that’s why the fuck heather chandler turns on her. for EMBARRASSING her. not for not doing what she says, like in the musical. heather chandler is EMBARRASSED that veronica can’t suck it up and have sex with a college boy because heather herself also doesn’t want to do it but thinks of it like a business transaction. if she does it, her status will continue to rise.

anyway my point is, heather chandler is not the same as other popular girls from other media. the way she views power is like business. veronica even says it, it’s like they work together and their job is being popular. heather chandler is the goddamn CEO of popularity. she’s a mythic bitch.

#i will note that while the musical does remove her moment at the party #it also adds moments after her death which accomplish the same narrative goal #which when played well actually convey this BETTER than the movie #though admittedly most actors (for all their other good choices) don't emphasize that

I try very hard to ride the line of not saying/doing things that will get my account of 13 years terminated but it’s like.

The right wing is constantly doing vigilante shit and imposing life, interpersonal, economic, and mental consequences on marginalized folks and those who support them for the crime of existing and being oppressed. They’ll publicly lynch 16 year old Black girls, 19 year old trans girls, burn down abortion clinics, shoot up literally anywhere, destroy/damage houses, and so much more.

And we.. protest and maybe do graffiti. Organize to “vote blue no matter who” type bullshit. We don’t even punch Nazis anymore lmfao. A lot of the non-white organizers and activists who became publicly known for stuff like taking down confederate flags, action in 2020, etc. in the past decade are dead or in jail now, often likely because of vigilante/cop action.

Iunno. I’m one Black tranny cripple and my literal ability to do.. anything, anymore is minimal. But I feel like I’m losing my mind watching almost nothing happen here while elsewhere resisters are literally dismantling weapons factories piece by piece until they can’t function.

And I just know if I hop on Facebook or Twitter and scroll for a couple minutes I’ll see another lynching and no meaningful material action and I’m so fucking tired.

Nothing will get me to stop taking an argument about AI seriously faster than someone using exaggerated, evocative horror movie language to talk about it.
