I am aliveeee (barely). Got super sick last weekend, and still have a cough and a throat that's trying to die on me but my goal this weekend is catching up on shit while chilling. Literally because I'm not leaving my AC in this 90+ weather.
She blinked at his question. A small pause before she broke into a bright grin and wagged her tail. "Today? No, but he ain't gonna be surprised when I tell him. I was just supposed t' be checkin' that Eggman wasn't tryin' t' restart this factory."
"Meetin' and helpin' ya was a... Happy accident?" Clearly not the teen's first rodeo when it came to helping someone. Even someone from another Zone who just happened to get a bit lost. At least they were safe now.
Harmony had already made up her mind that she would make sure Ekko got home safely before she either went back in to ensure the factory wouldn't come back online, or went home herself.
But first, she had to show him the way out. A few steps were taken down the walkway that was off to the side of the large ventilation fans. She gestured for him to follow.
"So, what other cool inventions do ya got?"
Well, he couldn't say much more about that. Though he gave her a look that was confused, and maybe just a little impressed. It sounded like she did this kind of thing a lot, and that was something he could support. Even if he did think having an extra hand or two might be better.
But he always planned three steps ahead. He had always had to for his safety and others. Maybe that wasn't the case here though, and he just shook his head with a snort. The people he meant sometimes...it really was all about the journey and the experiences, wasn't it?
"Happy for me, for sure. I'd be in a pickle otherwise." He had skills, he could fight too, but taking on a factory of robots would have meant a swift end for him. That much he could, and would admit. He probably wouldn't have even been able to make it out of the maze of vents and fans, frankly.
Seemed fortune was on his side today, luckily. Harmony was interesting, certainly a hero in the right place and time. He wanted to learn a little more about her, after fulfilling her curiosity anyway.
"Depends, how much time do you have?" He smiled, that proud smile that any creator had given the chance to talk about something they loved. "My hoverboard and the Z-Drive are probably the most renown, but I have plenty of others things back home. Mostly weapons, like a temporal grenade, but I'm trying to move on to more practical things. Things people, more people, can actually use to make their lives better."

"Could be that I don't see a monster when I look at you." While he knew that the word wasn't seen as something negative to Rya, Volt's words were no less true. He didn't see her as what some would describe as a monstrous form. He saw her beauty. He saw the way she smiled, the way her face would light up when there was something that interested her.
He saw the way she had looked at him.
That alone made his heart flutter, his glow to pulse for a moment or two before it settled again. His smile was full and genuine as he brought them into another slow form of dancing in the inky darkness around them.
And although they had begun to float back towards the surface, the hybrid's attention was wholly on Rya's face and the way the glowing moonlight, as it began to filter into the water, gleamed off her skin. He twirled and spun them gently until their heads came back above the waves, and the sky above them danced with the colors of the borealis.
"Should I start tryin' t' look up ways to court you or will the occasional swim and spoilin' when ya visit do?" It sounded like a tease, but there was some honesty to his tone. It had been so long since he last had a committed companion.
Rya was never shy to use the word because she was proud of it. Proud to be one, and even be considered it by some. It was who she was, after all. No amount of changing her appearance or the way she lived was going to uproot who she was at her very core. The fact that didn't bother Volt was touching.
She knew he hadn't seen her in every form, but she didn't care. For some reason she didn't think it would matter anyway. He was clearly smitten, and she as well. For some reason this thing between them worked, and she wasn't one to go questioning odd bouts of faith. She knew better.
She merely enjoyed it for what it was. The looks, the touches, the way they danced a dance only they could. And when they finally breached the water, the lights didn't grab her attention. He did. Just Volt, and the way he looked under the brilliant glow of the sky.
Yes, she could get used to this.
"Hmm," tease or not, she thought about it a second, tail twitching behind her. "I have never been one for chivalry. I believe love is rooted in dedication and patience. I will leave anything else up to you. Apart from what you might ask of me. That I will do to the best of my ability."
She didn't expect this to be a one-way effort, after all, though she would admit she wasn't the best with such things. All her time alive, and one relationship that had run its natural course and this was something she still had a lot of learning to do in.
In all of their time together she'd only known him to watch television when the two of them were in the other one's company. No other mentions of him doing so otherwise--which lead the florist to figuring that it was simply something her fiancé didn't do. His interests always laid elsewhere and that was that.
Just like her own were generally elsewhere as well. Whether it was drawing, being out in the greenhouse or listening to music herself. Watching the telly was always one of those things and knew for certain now, they did by cuddling on the couch.
Knowing him like she did, Mellie was well aware that there might have been a chance he was rambling a bit. Even though to her, there was nothing awkward about comforting the man she intended to marry. After all her partner was no less deserving of such a thing, at least in her eyes.
"Oh--! Quite like that idea, but 'ow older are we talkin' here…? 2000s era? Nineties? Or we just get a DVD of Shrek?" In all honesty she rather enjoyed the thought of such a suggestion. Meant a future at home date night for the both of them and quite an enjoyable one at that. After the trauma her poor fiancé had suffered at the figurative hands of one of the saddest children's movies ever made. Besides, Shrek was considered a classic, and she was certain he'd seen it at some point.
Though she didn't move as he shifted himself around so that they were both facing each other, taking notice now of how the faintest hint of tears was still in his eyes. If not for him taking her hands, she would brush them away. Instead, she returned the squeeze.
"You're welcome and I love you."

Well, now she had posed a good question. He wasn't a movie buff by any means, but he did have a certain generation of movies that resonated with him, as everyone did he suspected. Those films from childhood or some other important part in their lives that they just remembered, mostly fondly but maybe not always the case.
The good news was that he and Mellie were hardly that far apart in age, so some movie should be able to drum up those feelings of enjoyment for both of them, one that they were both familiar with that was. Honestly, he had a few ideas but one of hers had struck a chord with and he smiled, not just at it but the idea of spending some more time with her sans the sadness.
"Actually, Shrek doesn't sound half bad. Haven't seen it in years, but I remember liking it. Which hopefully isn't a bad thing." He remembered bits and pieces of it, not to mention the one and a half million memes that seemed to have come from the one movie. He wanted to see if it was still worth all the hype.
But only if it seemed like a decent idea to Mellie. He wouldn't make her sit through a movie like that unless she absolutely wanted to. After today, he definitely owed her that much, and so much more. Plus, anything would be better than watching the movie he just had.
"If not Shrek, than 'm sure there's some other movie we could pick. Something from Disney or something like Lord of The Rings."
Pointed ears twitched. Radio static wasn’t all too common at the best of times, but Xander didn’t really have time to consider it. The being he’d knocked into was already talking and drawing his eyes upward. At least they had a clear aesthetic going for them.
Although that smile was a bit unnerving.
“Can you blame a guy for trying to get to the food shelf before they close up?” He gave his own fanged smile. “At least I didn’t knock you over. I’ve been told I’m like a bulldozer in a china shop.. Or something like that.”
Despite their height difference, the fire demon has a bit more muscle than the other. The tip of his spade tail flicked absently before moving out of the way of another passerby to keep it from being stepped on. Those who usually walked the streets gave no shit about others.
They just wanted to get to their destination without being hassled by the creatures lurking this late at night. Some of whom had noticed the pair stopped in the middle of the sidewalk. Various shades of unnatural eyes had turned toward them.
Xander didn’t miss it, but had to wonder if he had been the only one.
There was something off with this one. Alastor didn't know what, exactly, but it was as familiar as it was foreign. And he didn't like that. Too much mystery for him at the moment, in a place he was unfamiliar with, and it made his grip on his staff tighten just a touch more.
Not that he was going to start trouble. That wasn't his plan today. He was observing and nothing more. Getting bumped into was par for the course, he supposed. Did that stop him from making a point of dusting off his coat? Not in the slightest.
There was an upticked brow at the other's answer. 'Food shelf' in particular caught his attention. That and the general state of their surroundings, not to mention parts of the other's appearance, were already painting a picture.
"Bull in a china shop." His answer was matter of fact, not helpful in the friendly sense but more one that said he didn't want the other to sound like a complete idiot. Only a glance was spared to the staring eyes before they were back to looking at the smaller being.
"And what of our audience? Do they have a penchant for being reckless?
That was the beautiful thing about not only life, but how intertwined their lives had become with each other in recent years. Or since meeting each other period. Even Mellie herself couldn't have predicted where life had taken the two of them, right in front of their tree with him down on one knee. How special a moment it was, as if something that wasn't real, but at the same time very much was.
Just like how their relationship ever since that becoming a couple couldn't have been more so. He was the realest and truest thing that had come into her life. Certainly something she never took for granted. Not that Mellie had ever doubted--except for teasing him in a joking manner right off the bat--that love. Except, somehow that little joke had brought the two of them that much closer. Knew he was in it for the long haul.
Yet it wasn't as if she hadn't been herself, because that was very much the truth. So much that not only was there talks between them about marriage at two months in, but other signs as well. Her gathering up music for THEIR playlist, one of which she got Mel on board with helping her compile. And get into various formats simply because she could. Of course there was still parts that were future presents for her now fiancé.
If the title of girlfriend had got her giddy, the thought of being his fiancée had the blonde's emotions rising in tenfold. Heart and stomach in a beyond pleasant whirlwind. Nobody on the planet could very blame her for that either. And she could only imagine that Maurice was experiencing much of the same thing, just below the surface, even though he was visibly less tense.
His smile was nearly as bright as the sun itself, her own reflecting that naturally. Seemed her response had been just what he'd been needing to hear. Which just brought about a desire for them to be physically on the same level as each other. To satisfy this, she steadied herself after he'd opened the box and softly dropped herself down onto the pavement in front of him.
Yet upon doing so, she hadn't broken eye contact with in the slightest, instead was able to hold it. That was until Mellie's gaze shifted to the ring that was themed all too perfectly. The reoccurring sunflower bit he always gravitated towards, one of which now had sudden tears of happiness in the corner of her eyes.
"Not in the slightest," she happily shook her head, braids shifting about ever so slightly and eyes back on his once more. Her free hand raised itself to her unwavering smile, though not hiding it at all. "Yes, I'll marry you, Maurice. In a heartbeat."

He couldn't quite place when it had happened, when he knew that this was it. That they were each other's long haul, their happy ending and everything in between. But it had, and he couldn't have been more grateful for it. Him, a man who had more than once in his life written off any sort of long term relationship due to one factor or another. Yet, here he was. Asking the honest and true love of his life one of the most important questions he could.
Whatmore, the fact he had no doubt what she was going to answer spoke volumes. He debated with himself if he would have done this otherwise, only to conclude that he would. If only to put it out there to Mellie and himself how much this all meant to him. Fortunately, things had worked out wonderfully.
Part of him did want to protest her being there on the cement with him, if only to keep her from getting too dirty, but another part of him knew better than to bother. The gesture only served to brighten his smile that much more, as if that were possible, and he too glanced down at the ring in the box.
Catching the light in a way that was almost enchanted, the ring rested between them. That final symbol of their love. One that Maurice had spotted some time ago, and knew instantaneously that they - Mellie - needed it. It was the seed that had started everything. Those late night gigs, days an evening and even some mornings, taking whatever job he could get. Running himself a bit ragged, for the best reason.
Seeing Mellie's reaction made it all worth it. Her smile made it all worth it.
Those words were all he needed. The confirmation. The way his chest exploded with warmth and happiness was indescribable. On instinct, a hand had raised to cup her cheek, thumb rubbing a gentle circle as if to catch the tears that hadn't fallen yet. Happy ones, he knew, but he couldn't help it.
"I was hoping you'd say that." Just like that, the space between them was closed, his lips on hers. He couldn't have cared less about who was watching the scene, or what they thought about it. Though he was pretty sure he heard a few rounds of applause over the delightful buzzing in his head.

He had grabbed an assortment of things that morning, more or less in a rush because he had slept in. All in the typical paper bag which was hastily grabbed a moment after he had kissed his fiancée a farewell and gone out the door.
The gig itself was, fortunately, very chill. Just a cafe with a casual, calm vibe that he appreciated. Moreover, it seemed he, his guitar and a few acoustic covers were a hit. So much so, he chatted with a few patrons after promising to come back at a later date to do it all again before excusing himself for lunch.
It would have made more sense for him to eat something from the gig in question, but not one to waste food he opted for his little lunch in a park nearby. Though the cherry on top was undoubtedly the note he stumbled across. Even when she wasn't here Mellie made his heart skip a beat.
In response, he sent a text with a big, goofy smile on his face.

Never before had Melvin really considered himself an expert in the field of love, but he did like to experiment, obviously. One of those things that he found enjoyment in. And just another of the things that both men could freely discuss. It was more of a relief and unspoken relief that the blonde had no issue with voicing. Besides relationships were hard, even if the one Maurice shared with his twin never had been.
Which was never something he'd been jealous of, not even for a fraction of a second. Even if in his eyes the pair could only be described at something he hoped to find someday himself. Hopefully, his current one would pan out that way. Just like he knew the bond the boys shared would only grow.
Even with the wind whipping around them, it would still be possible to have conversations, just not on the deeper level that they could dip into. No, those would wait until their feet were back on stable ground. Besides, it wasn't as if Melvin didn't know this about Maurice not being great at making decisions--even though he'd offered all the same. Just was in his nature. Plus, he could appreciate the fact of having another person that was just as go with the flow like himself.
"My thoughts exactly! I'll give anything a go just once." Which he very much was, kind of explained his variety of interests in life. Even more so with the various places he'd travelled to, even if just for his career. To him there was always something to gain from said experiences. "Oh it most definitely is and will be. So sick that I won't be in the runnin' as your favourite twin…?"
The second snort wasn't the least bit surprising, which was why he'd followed up with the question that he did. Which was followed up by a snort of his own, then a crack of laughter. It was a wonder he could still drive under such humour. Not that there was EVER any competition between the twins when it came to Maurice.
An unseen grin came at that, along with a nod that was in some way. "Oh she'd love it 'or certain. Definitely, we're a trio 'or more than one reason after all, and I'll gladly share that experience with you both."

Maurice was never shy about admitting the fact he found himself to be incredibly lucky when it came to Mellie. Rarely did people mesh as well as the two of them did, and rarer still did they find the sort of affection and care that the two of them had. All of it on a whim, too, and that was one fact he could never really get over. If he hadn't walked into that shop just to buy flowers for a certain someone, he never would have met Mellie.
Funny how things worked like that. Funnier still that he had found not just Mellie, but Melvin as well. Luck was with him in spades as far as the last few years were concerned. He had found someone he loved, and somehow managed to impress and befriend her brother as well. Not a typical case, not if some stories he had heard were anything to go by.
Then again he also doubted that most would be on a bike ride with their partner's brother just for the heck of it. He hadn't thought anything of it, just that it sounded like a good time. And so far, it was shaping up to be. Even as he chuckled at the small joke floating between them.
"Hate t' break it t' you, Mate, but your sister's had that position for a while. But, you are my favorite in the current vicinity, so you've got that going for you." He didn't feel like he had to point out the fact that the love he had for each twin was a little different. Melvin was still, undoubtedly, one of the most important people to Maurice, and always would be. There was a reason he never minded their little trio.
They were family. That was all that had to be said.
"Guess part of this trip could be us scouting places for the three of us t' visit later. Never hurts t' have a bit of a plan when it comes t' those things," he said, then chuckled again. "Ironic given we don't have too much of one now, but spontaneity never hurt either. Kinda prefer it, honestly."

As if she even had to really ask, but truly wanted to know as her gaze shifted towards him, eyes so full of love for him.
Maurice was never one to make a big deal out of his birthday. Frankly, as long as he had good company, and could be spoiled with good food, he was happy. So spending a day with Mellie milling around and doing whatever may have caught their eye in the moment was, in his mind, perfection.
The flowers were a plus, and he had smiled more than he should have upon receiving them. He would definitely be picking out a well-worth vase for them later.
That mood, that joy, continued the day through. Hand in hand with Mellie and they went here and there. A little cafe for drinks as they walked, a few novelty shops and places odder still. Simple, but enjoyable. A fact that showed on his face, in the way those dark eyes were twinkling, especially when he looked at Mellie.
Her question made him laugh, in a good way, and an arm was purposefully used to draw her closer as it rested along her shoulders. The opportunity was used to plant a kiss on the side of her head before he spoke.
"One of the best," a jovial tone, paired perfectly with his smile. "An' I have you t' thank for that, of course. 'S all about the company at the end of the day, an' I've got the best there is."
Now was as good a time as any to try. If it worked, she got to see a bit of what the Zone was like outside of hell. If it didn't... Well, she did have the instructions on how to summon him in her pouch. Either way, they would work things out.
The teen's Warp Ring was brought back out.
It had enough of a charge to get them there and back before she'd have to hang out for a few hours, so it could recharge enough to go home. Not a bad way to spend the day, honestly.
"Kinda." The teen paused, holding the device out for Alastor to take hold. "Ya have t' think o' where ya wanna go. Picture it in your mind and then toss it forward. It'll do the rest."
Hopefully, that made enough sense for the radio demon to do just that. He just needed a clear image of his head of where he wanted to take them, and the Ring would do the rest once it left his hand.
"Since this is your first time through one. It might feel a bit weird. Kinda like static cling on your fur."
Today had far more investment in it than the demon could have imagined. While he was still skeptical that this whole notion would work, the possibility was far too great to pass up. A chance like this didn't come often. Never had in fact. All the more reason he saw no harm in giving it a whirl.
The ring was taken, no hesitation, just a short scrutinizing glance but he actually seemed to listen to the instructions. It all seemed simple enough. A part of him would almost say too simple but, well, what did he really have to lose?
"Don't worry about me. SŦAŦIC, I can handle." Whether his voice showcasing the little effect was on purpose or not he would leave to her discretion. In the meantime, there was pause as he gathered old memories in his mind. Of a place he was sure had changed considerably in the time he had been gone. He wondered if that would effect this little ring thing.
A passing thought, and a second more went by before he tossed the ring in front of them. Whatever changes might have been beyond it, he would deal with. He could do nothing about them after all. It was time to see if The Big Easy was still what it used to be.
He doubted it, but what could a few hours back on Earth hurt. He was long due for a vacation.

"Nah, I'm no mind reader, it was just a good guess." And a little speculation given the context clues around them. He knew this storybook well, or that's what Phineas liked to think. He guessed he would be finding out soon enough.
He laughed at the greeting, the enthusiasm in no way off-putting to him as he took the hand with a friendly shake. "I'm just visiting, sort of. But I'm Phineas, nice to meet ya, Maddie. I'd love some directions, or at least some guidance on places to see. I'm stuck here for a little while, might as well make the best of it."
To him that was the beautiful thing about the written word, one could either decide to read as they wished. Or simply not. To some--like him for example--reading and learning to one's full potential was fundamental. Even for one's own enjoyment as well. But that was the thing, one had to want to. Which didn't affect him in the slightest.
Others judged other folks for such things, but Melvin himself never had. Besides not wanting to, he knew there were many other reasons one didn't read. Some simply didn't have the time. There had been times when even he didn't.
"From an age where I began to understand things better until my early twenties, I wondered the same thing. If introducin' 'em to such things was wise. Wasn't until I did a book signin' where I heard from actual parents who suggested I break the story up into various age groups. "
Mells' and his own had been tainted for lack of a better word at a young age as well. So it was understandable that his own views were torn as well. One of those things that couldn't be helped, just like it was in their own home that it'd happened. But on the other hand he'd gained knowledge from his peers that had children of their own.
Though unsurprisingly he had seen that look before. Just on a different face. On the face of his twin sister, the one that had encouraged him. Or rather pushed him to be out in this forest in the first place. A laugh after he continued listening.
"That's the thing, I am takin' one right this very moment. I'm not typin' away at my typewriter, ironically it's at home. I have pen and paper, but have yet to use 'em today. Funny 'ow I've heard all of this from my sister. I s'ppose she was right."

Tala had only learned to read long after she was meant to. She had taught herself, with a little help from her companion. A funny fact given they were all mercenaries, but she supposed it was an important skill to have for anyone trying to make a living. Nonetheless she would say her relationship with literature as a whole was mutual, at best.
She couldn't speak for what was best and what wasn't when it came to kids. She certainly didn't have any of her own, and her experience with them had been little to none. All she knew was what she would have wanted as a kid, and even then, those opinions could be skewed at times. Very skewed.
"Seems like a lot of work to me, but I'm not the expert here. I guess it's a good idea on the surface, and I'd like to think parents know best...but I'm not so sure of that after some of the things I've seen on my travels." She wouldn't go into detail, she knew she didn't need to point out that not every childhood was rainbows and butterflies. In this world, few were. Yet it wasn't a problem she worried herself with. She had far bigger things to worry about. Far too much on her plate.
"I guess this is the part when I'm supposed to say that women often are," there was a sense of humor in her words. Sometimes she wondered what things would be like if she had a sibling, but it wasn't a thought she entertained much. She didn't want anyone else to have this life. Not even a little.
She did pause a moment, thoughtful, before looking to one side of the forest. "I don't know if you're planning on spending your whole vacation here in the middle of nowhere, but there is a town not far from here that can offer some entertainment. Maybe not the kind writing gives you, but it's something."
It started with a soft flutter of wings. A sudden swoosh that was followed by the scrape of shoes on the concrete of the nearby alleyway. Flying was a good way to get halfway across the city in a pinch, but it left one out in the open to the creatures that also used it.
Especially the ones that did at night.
Xander had really not wanted to deal with having to outmaneuver one of the larger Devils that loved to try to snipe him out of the sky. Those claws cut worse than some of the Fae. Thankfully, he'd landed safely and took a breath as his large wings returned to their tattooed form on his back.
With a cheerful step onto the main sidewalk, he didn't have time to see just who he stepped into. Both hands raised as he took a step back.
"Shit. Sorry 'bout that. Wasn't looking where I was going again."
How was it he kept ending up in these places? The pure coincidence and irony had made the demon snicker to himself. This world was rife with death, chaos and so much more. How delightful. Another playground for him to do as he pleased. Discreetly of course. As always.
He had planned to explore for a little while, gain bearings and then see what he might have been able to do.
