"You're absolutely right."

Reaching into her purse, the silence settles between them just long enough for him to delight in someone admitting he was right before pulling out a tin similar to the ones meant for tea.

"Come here, I'll season you."

"Seems I needed that too."

The silence had indeed settled and delight had taken over, which was slightly cocky of him but was just one of those things that couldn't be helped. Yet the delight didn't last long, something else took over at the appearance of the tin.

"Ah, you literally meant it."

Zora can't help but narrow their eyes a little skeptically at the suggestion.

"...First of all, I don't know why you think Mells would go along with this idea. And second of all, it feels very, very random for you to suddenly want to go by the name Harvey. Are you making a reference or something? Why would the name Harvey necessarily convey you being a badass?"

Zora is just ..genuinely baffled about everything involved here.

From the narrowing of their eyes, it was obvious that he hadn't completely explained. Of course not.

"Firstly, I wasn't completely serious and Mells can do whatever she wants--she's her own person after all. Sorry I should've explained a bit more, those are our middle names. Mine is Harvey and hers is Anne." A slight pause with shrug. "I just thought growin' up that Harvey had a bit of an edge to it."

Hopefully there would be less confusion with his explanation, even if he never did fully understand the generational thing of going by one's middle name.

"In fairness, it was evidently someone who just didn't know better and wanted to clean a fossil... but, yeah, they're STUPID fragile, I'm not sure why that was the go-to. Even just borrowing someone's garden hose would have been less crazy."

"Well I s'ppose when you put it like that, but still some kind of sense would've been useful to have here. Fossils are not as likely to be found. Is usin' water even the best idea though?" He truly wanted Ava's full opinion here, along with any possible knowledge on the matter.

As soon as the knife was removed, Irina shot up, gasping as if she were taking her first breath. She brought a hand to her scalp, making sure everything was shut and in place. 

"Phew. Thanks, man, I was really in a bind!"

The whirring of the computer that was her brain began to calm. Once she got somewhere safer, she could clean her memory chip on her own. Hopefully nothing would get corrupted in there. 

She held a hand out to shake his. Her wrist was a simple ball joint, the color of terracotta, as were all the joints on her fingers. Despite that, they had the same functionality as a normal human hand. 

"My name's Irina. I really owe you one."

There had been a good feeling that she wasn't human--not by a long shot--but when the woman shot up it was all he could do not to yelp. One hand was still firmly on Gnocchi's leash, the other still holding onto the knife.

"You're welcome… I s'ppose it's good I happened along…?"

However, Melvin's attention wasn't on the knife itself and instead was laid upon whoever this woman was. At the very moment there was a whole series of questions residing right in the forefront of his mind. Yet with no answers, obviously.

Though his gaze went down to his hands once one of hers was offered, finally deciding to lean downwards so that the knife was carefully placed on the ground. Not a moment had taken place, his hand now extended for hers.

"Mine's Melvin. You don't have to." A pause, knowing he was the only one to notice. "How'd that even happen?"

"Yeah, pretty much." She actually had gotten the nickname - mostly because he wanted to give her one too - before her powers even showed, but Lightning did not want to talk about that time like at all, so simply saying she chose it because of her speed felt right.

Hearing he was alright with a demonstration, Lightning grinned, and pulled her goggles back down to her face. "Alright. Fair warning - not everyone takes super speed well, the first time." Not that she really had people whom she took with her more than once before, so technically she had no idea if it was only 'for the first time' or just in general, but meh, details. "And of course, I'll have to grab onto you." She took a step closer, and gave him another moment to say no if he wouldn't want to. Without that interruption, she was going to grab him and just, run. To where? Eh, she'll see. Something along the way that sticks out, that'd make it clear where they were. Maybe that huge metal tower, or that way-too-long wall. Something like those.

Surprisingly it wasn't exactly unusual for him to agree to such crazy ideas or to put his trust in someone he barely knew. Except, Melvin could tell there was still time for him to change his mind. Something of which he wasn't about to do! Instead, he popped a hand into a pocket for goggles of his own.

Said googles are put upon his head, pulled downwards and then down over his eyes within a matter of seconds. This is one of those practiced motions for him, not in the least bit hurried. "Fair 'nough with the warnin'. Should we have a signal or somethin' in case I don't handle things well?" At least to his knowledge, what with creating and standing out in a storm he didn't have an issue. Yet at the same time, that was one of those things that was under his control. Knew full well that such a thing was different as day and night. A nod was given in acceptance as she got closer, even going so far as holding out his arm in offering of wherever she needed to grab him. It wasn't as if Melvin was the least bit uncomfortable with the idea after all.

“Mm. I don’t know…” Melody shuffles in place. Certainly, she salivates over the description Melvin provides her of figs that are fresh and taste like a slew of sweet foods she already loves. She also can’t get the image out of her head of a wasp bursting out of the fruit—a big, glaring yellowjacket!—with wings raised and stinger ready. She would dash right out of the shop if she had to. Oh, but what about Melvin? She can’t just leave him!

Thankfully, he has a compromise. “Yes, yes—let’s do that,” Melody says, jumping to agree with him. “I would be very happy to taste a fig. But I would be just as happy if we had to leave it alone, and walk away, and take all our other things someplace far, far away. I don’t want you to be hurt!”

With that decided, Melody declares: “A cuppa, a pastry, strawberries with sugar, and a fig. That’s what we want—our, uh…order!”

Even with his description, one of which is so artfully crafted one would've thought that he'd written about figs at some point in career, he could still tell this was a deep-rooted concern. One of which that was right at Melody's very core. Something perhaps to be even brought up with his twin? She'd know how to better comfort his companion more than he would; not that say that Melvin didn't give the situation his all. Just like he understood how she felt, didn't state that such a thing was silly or otherwise.

A breath of relief leaves him at that, smile returning ever so slightly. "Then that's what we'll do," he comments, now nodding in agreement. "I'm certain you'll enjoy it very much. Well if that's the case, that's what we'll do. Even though I'm fairly certain that the chances of that happenin' are slim. I won't be if we stick with that plan, promise."

Putting that to memory, he decides on his own order and then tells the barista," Two cuppas, two pastries, strawberries with sugar and a fig please!" Then turns over to the slight line where they're supposed to wait. "The barista said it'll be just a few minutes."

There were times when he was more than aware of his actions, other times not so much. Rambling was one of said things; it was a more than a bit of nervous tick if the curly haired male was more than honest about it.

Deadlines this, deadlines that. His editor breathing down his neck, almost hounding him.

Almost….

Except for this rambling session, he'd settled down into the arms of his fiancé and continued on. That was until those two little words stopped the poet dead in his tracks, silence leaving whatever it was that he'd been talking about hanging in the air. Much like dead airspace on a radio station.

You're enough.

Breath caught in his throat, taking a moment before he let said air out of his lungs and drew a new one in. Had his body forced him to do so?

Either way, he found his arms were around Johnnie's all the same, tears welling up in the corner of his eyes. "Thank you, my love…" He all, but whispered, a single tear falling. "It's all I want…."
