     It is a fairly normal Wednesday for Rainer, but he decides not to assure Alvin of that while they’re on the run and he already seems irritated. He feels for him–honestly, getting chased down with your freak friend by a bunch of murderous goons is an inconvenience, certainly. He feels a little bad. 

     “Oh, I’m touched,” he replies, smiling a little as he pulls him into the mouth of an alley and breaks into a light jog, and then turns right as they come out the other end. “Nobody is going to die– in fact, with any luck we will avoid fighting at all. Isn’t that nice? Sorry to get you into this mess.” 

Alvin is more concerned about Rainer living this... strange lifestyle than he is annoyed by the situation. He can’t imagine going through life looking over his shoulder all the time and being hunted down on the daily by presumably human goons.

He’s a bit surprised at the sudden turn, but Alvin is able to keep pace and jogs along with Rainer to the end of the alley. “I guess that’d be preferred, but I meant it when I said I wasn’t too worried about that.” His knowledge self-defense would come in handy if the goons caught up to them. “And it’s okay—I uh, guess it happens sometimes... Though I can’t say I’ve been in a situation like this recently,” he says with a nervous chuckle.

“But while also not actually being a currency, just a coffee shop. Yeah it’s very interesting.” She thinks for a moment before checking her phone to remind herself of the date. “If you want, perhaps this weekend we can check it out? I’m not doing much except for some house chores, especially since we’re back in the states. But if you ask me to take you to an Olive Garden also I will refuse.”

He grins at the suggestion of going to the coffee shop together and nods. “Oh, I’d love that. Even if the place is strange and unpleasant, I’d be delighted to go with you!”

Then Romulus’s face drops at the mention of Olive Garden, and it’s almost like he has a thousand-yard stare for a moment. He narrows his eyes. “I’ve heard of that one,” he says.

“You know? I’ve actually been doing really well. These last few months have been great, I started up my painting again, trying out some photography. Found a very lovely park to take Diana to. Moving back is honestly the healthy restart I needed.”

“Aww, yay!! That’s wonderful to hear! I knew moving back would be good for you. Coming home is always the best feeling. At least, it always is for me. I’m sure it’s the same for others like us with such deep connections to the land and all that.”

     Rainer gives her a cheeky grin as they stride along, making a little gun with his hand, and he says, “With exquisite and judicial violence, of course.” He winks. It’s pretty much impossible to tell if he’s kidding. 

“Mm, violence. I’m not surprised.” Despite her tone, Jeanette has a small smile on her face. She stopped trying to decipher if he’s joking about things or not a long time ago. “It’s been a while for me, honestly, so I’ll just follow your lead.”

“Absolutely! Oh well, we grew up to be only the absolute best people anyway with or without them.” To say those nuns would have a heart attack is an understatement. “But I digress, how’ve you been recently?”

“Exactly.” Bianca laughs again. “They did what they could though, even if that was minimal. They had lots of other business to attend to.” She thinks about it for a second. “I’ve been just fantastic! And how about you, Rosie? Things all good on your end?”

“I mean, it can be, people do often go there during lunch time even if it’s just a coffee shop.” Eve shrugs her shoulders and leans against the armrest of their couch. “It does sound like it could be a fake currency, I have no idea, the mascot is a mermaid too which I found very interesting when it first came out.”

Romulus nods and hums. “Mhm, mhm. I see.” He rubs his chin and appears to be deep in thought. “So it’s like a little café but make it about a weird mermaid-centered currency...” He perks up. “Sounds like an interesting trip!”

I think it goes without question that if as a hetalia fan you decide to represent the current ukraine and russia situation in the form of ANYTHING be it fanfiction, art, memes (specially MEMES), etc, it will be simply incredibly insensitive. 

The hetalia fandom has a shit reputation, and rightfully so, as political and historical material is handled poorly and often dehumanised. Now more than ever it’s important for people in the fandom to consider their actions and the content they create/post. And no, I won’t hear the excuse of “it’s just art/fanart” or other dismissive commentary. Because everything you put out as an artist has an effect, says something. You have a major responsibility here in your actions so take charge of them. The internet is not a place you can hide behind to do impulsive stupid things.  And the reason I post this is because I’ve seen already too many people online saying sarcastically “oh I can’t wait for the hetalia fandom to make fanfics of this”

There are real people behind this. There are real lives at stake.

     “Mad is a strong word,” he protests, turning to pedantry instead of trying to actually argue with her. “And I wasn’t wrong, I was just less right.” 

“Well, you seem irritated, at least.” She hums. “‘Less right’ is pretty close to being wrong,” Elise says with a laugh, “but if that’s how you want to look at it, then who am I to tell you otherwise?”

“Sounds about right.” Eve hums and moves to place her hands in her lap. “I think so. Given that I’ve got a couple more years on you with this, I’d say it comes and goes. I kinda celebrated my birthday at least the first year, after that I would just get a little treat for myself and spend the night in. Significant days like that as time goes on start to matter less.”

She turns to look at him and offers a hint of a smile. “But, also with the right company sometimes you don’t even think about the fact you’re not aging. It’s almost like… you just feel like you’re existing. But not like in the existential sorta way. At least when I’m having a good day anyway.”

Alvin frowns at his feet. “That’s... sooner than I expected for somebody to stop caring about birthdays, but I guess that makes sense, too.” He’s tried so hard up to this point to keep himself like he was before he died, but how long will it be till that weighs down on him even more than it already is? Despite his attempts, he knows he isn’t the same man he was before.

“I really don’t know what I’d do if I had to face this on my own,” he says quietly. “I also don’t understand why this is something people would want—immortality, I mean. I’m scared of watching the people I care about die.”

“Then behave!!!” She does the little ‘I’m watching you’ gesture with her fingers, “And get in the car, we’re going to lunch.”

He’ll take such a secret to his grave. Timo looks between her and her hand, and he nods when she tells him to get in the car.

“Okay, okay.” He holds up his hands with a little laugh. “As long as you don’t put me in prison. I’m a good boy, I promise.”

While Timo’s mostly putting on a show by exaggerating his fears, he’s having fun doing it, and that’s what matters. He frowns when she makes a threatening pinching gesture at him. “I won’t do it again! I’m so sorry. I want to keep my nose, please.”
