Summer
noun.
[Season of heat]
I. Hot, exhausting days in grimy heat, starving and carving a sculpture that’ll never be completed with an uncramped hand and content sigh. Trudging down dusty alleys, tired, thirsty, and cranky, a line of ants with bits of stolen picnic food upon their backs march between crevasses of the pavement’s stones, heading to their mounds. A car honks loud and clear, blaring long, earsplitting wails as it swerves around a corner. The driver’s a gnarly man who swears as colorful as my Nanu's homemade quilts, with pieces of overused scarves here and there and everywhere. The sky is a dull patchwork of clouds on faded denim. And the summer is sunnier than ever. ~Munira R
