Full respect to mxtx and her apparent tall people kink but as much as I believe it's her right to make every single character a fucking tree, I strongly disagree with jiang cheng's canon height being 185cm. Than man should be 179cm exactly. Just barely shy of 180cm. I think even if you do not grow up with an inferiority complex topping out at this height legally requires you to develop it.
179 cm, incidentally, translates to 5'10.5" if my online sources are to be believed. Which, in a beautiful alliance of cross-measurement system solidarity, is also a perfect height to be deeply insecure about! If someone asks you how tall you are and you answer 5'10.5" you sound desperate. But if you round up to 5'11" you are technically lying about your height and any loose shixiong within ear shot may loudly call you out on it, making you look even more desperate. You can't win. Just like Jiang Cheng.
I don't know what kind of timeline shenanigans would have to happen to put RevengeEra!Wei Wuxian and RevengeEra!Nie Huaisang in the same place but man do I want to see it. They would not fix each other. They would, in fact, make each other worse. And I, for one, would love to see it
everyyyytime someone writes nie huaisang as a mastermind who does stuff for someone OTHER than his brother i die. he's not doing all that. the only person he's putting in actual effort for is nie mingjue and the nie sect, as a far second. like come on guys
CQL is one of the most ‘everything could have been different’ shows I’ve ever seen in my life and it’s tragic and infuriating and fantastic
I know it’s a very popular fanon that Nie Huaisang still thinks of Wei Wuxian fondly, even after his name was smeared, and it was one of the motivators for pushing Mo Xuanyu into the direction of performing the soul-sacrificing ritual, but I kinda like the idea that maybe Nie Huaisang didn’t particularly care about whether the rumors of the Yiling Patriarch’s depravity was true or not when he plotted to have Wei Wuxian brought back.
From his perspective, Wei Wuxian’s fall from grace is like if a old high school friend you once hung out and got along with, but has since lost touch, and the next time you hear of him, he’s apparently killed a family of four or robbed a bank or something. Kinda like “Oh my god, I can’t believe he did that. He seemed so nice when I knew him,” but after that initial feeling of shock, he kinda just moves on. He might wonder from time to time what brought him to commit such acts, but he just goes on with his life. After all, it was a long time ago when they last had contact with each other, and they haven’t really been a part of each other’s lives for many years.
Until, he discovers that there was foul play involved with his brother’s death. He needs to collect the scattered remains of his brother; he needs to get revenge; he even figured out who did it, but he doesn’t know how to do that. But what he does know is who could be capable of accomplishing such a task. Did that person really slaughter senselessly without reason, cast grisly curses, and torture others for his own satisfaction? Doesn’t matter. All that matters is that person is the most qualified to unravel the mysteries of a severed arm. So he must be brought back, even if it means coercing someone to consign their own soul to oblivion.
It’s a special kind of ruthlessness that I can’t help but find intriguing.
Fucking obsessed with Nie Huaisang, man. He's the mastermind behind the entire events of the series but we only spend a half a page discussing this. He outtricked the trickster character and said trickster character literally dies praising his deception skills. He threw away years of his life and his entire reputation on a strung-together improv plan that would require him to act as pathetic as possible at any given moment. Out of love. He chooses to be a mediocre magic user because otherwise it will literally kill him. His weapon is literally listed in the glossary as "crying". He just wanted to paint hand fans.
cheers

wei wuxian is such a lesson in contradiction like he's so nice he's a jerk he's so smart he's very naive he's friends with everyone nobody likes him he's the best cultivator alive he can't use a sword he's a whore he's a virgin he's lazy he'll work for days without sleep he's so calm under pressure his temper is atrocious his ego is massive he has no self worth he's dead he's alive he's a saint he's a monster he's a victim he's a villain he's a great teacher he's a terrible student he's a charmer he's so so annoying he saves everyone's asses he's the reason they're in this mess he's a brother but not really he's a son but not really he's a father but not really he's a sect leader with no sect he's so selfish he puts everyone before himself he made so many choices there was nothing else he could have done like no wonder it's so difficult for people to understand him he's literally everything
Ontologically evil Wordle today. And yet we persist.
Honestly. Honestly Ed vs Scar in episode 5 is striking me fresh, right now. Like by this point we've obviously established we're in a battle shonen by now. We know Ed gets into fights. He's scuffled with Cornello. He's a boy who knows how to hold a sharp object and use it.
But I think FMA does also does an excellent job choosing when to not let Ed come out on top. We just had the Nina episode and now Ed is in the middle of processing his first "catastrophic failure to save someone" type of failure since attempting to bring his mom back. He's dealing with a low that's absolutely hampering his abilities and the tonal shift hits for me in the way that 1) he doesn't notice Scar's initial attack against him (Al has to pull him away) and 2) Ed absolutely freezes up just thinking "This is bad."
This is, perhaps, baby's first "someone is coming at you with the full, concentrated, explicit intention of killing you" and Ed is so genuinely out of his depth with it. He really does try. He gets immediately bested. He's staring at a situation where Al is directly in harm's way. And Ed just lies down to die like a dog...
He does better later. He learns from this, later. But he's so young in this. It just hits.
“Perhaps you have forgotten. That’s one of the great problems of our modern world, you know. Forgetting. The victim never forgets. Ask an Irishman what the English did to him in 1920 and he’ll tell you the day of the month and the time and the name of every man they killed. Ask an Iranian what the English did to him in 1953 and he’ll tell you. His child will tell you. His grandchild will tell you. And when he has one, his great-grandchild will tell you too. But ask an Englishman—” He flung up his hands in mock ignorance. “If he ever knew, he has forgotten. ‘Move on!’ you tell us. ‘Move on! Forget what we’ve done to you. Tomorrow’s another day!’ But it isn’t, Mr. Brue.” He still had Brue’s hand. “Tomorrow was created yesterday, you see. That is the point I was making to you. And by the day before yesterday, too. To ignore history is to ignore the wolf at the door.”
- A Most Wanted Man, John le Carré
The worst part of live theatre is you will see a show that wrecks you emotionally and will haunt you mind forever and you will never see it anywhere ever again and no one will ever know about it because there are no recordings and was performed maybe two times ever
The thing about those posts I’ve seen about Tumblr users having an odd habit of using other people’s posts criticizing a(n applicable) bigoted behavior as a confessional to try and cleanse them of their sins is like. They’re all missing the part that they objectively should be embarrassed about the behavior in the first place.
Like, yes, it’s supremely annoying and deeply weird how people will just tell on themselves on this site SO FUCKING HARD if you criticize the way no one on here listens to Black music. It’s fucked up how white liberals will treat every nearby brown person like their pastor.
But like, they should be embarrassed about the fact the post applies to them. They really should be embarrassed that they like Harry Potter in 2025. And frankly, I don’t think the confessional thing is an innocent behavior. It’s white tears again. They start crying to you about how not being racist is actually super difficult for them, and when you call them on their excuses being excuses, they immediately heel turn and make you out to be an aggressor, unreasonable, an extremist, a threat. There’s a playbook here. We can’t just be telling them it’s okay.
Like you have to realize, when white people are going onto posts criticizing them for not doing even the most minimal engagement with Black culture by saying listening to rap is just hard for them because they have auditory processing disorder or trauma or whatever, they are positioning themselves as a victim. They are positioning themselves as THE victim, even. They are trying to make themselves out to be the most oppressed person in the room. Other racists recognize this play on a subconscious level and dogpile you when you do not play along. That’s how this shit has gone for time immemorial. You can’t just be saying “it’s okay”.
since there is such an "english speakers who don't even try to pronounce a foreign mame correctly" epidemic, native english speakers often try to overcorrect and end up thinking they have a moral imperative to pronounce every foreign name correctly at all times. so i'm gonna hold your hand and look into your eyss as i say this: you can't. you can't pronounce every sound in a language you don't speak. and that's fine. it happens to the rest of us too. we won't be mad so long as you try your best.
“I did some research to pronounce this name correctly” = 👍 great! even if the pronunciation was still off (and learning to pronounce a foreign language correctly takes a lot of practice) people generally appreciate it when someone goes the extra mile for accuracy, and honestly, languages are cool
“I’m probably not saying that correctly”/“sorry for my pronunciation” = 👍 understandable! foreign languages often have sounds that aren’t used in English and learning to correctly pronounce unfamiliar phonemes is genuinely difficult even with help
“lol I’m not even gonna TRY to pronounce that 😂” = 👎 THIS is the problem, if treats languages other than English like they are inherently ‘weird’ or ‘overly complicated’ just because you aren’t familiar with them
“One thousand apologies for my butchering of this beautiful effervescent tongue, I will now flagellate myself as punishment for my crimes” = 👎 chill
(popular leftist voice) these right wingers are so mad because they get no women. if you are a Good Person a woman will appear and suck your dick.
(popular leftist voice) these right wingers are all sooo poorrrr and stupid. They are stupid because they are poorrrr, racism would never exist in my suburban area
Popular leftist voice: these right wingers must have brain damage. They must be bigots because they are literally reta suffering from blsck mold, or brain damage.
she’s about to steal buffy’s fries btw.
