“Thanks,” he grumbled, setting the flashlight up on the bar counter. “Don’t forget it,” he muttered aloud to himself, trying his best so he wouldn’t accidentally leave it behind.
He leaned against the bar, gently sipping it. His throat ached, too much running, not enough resting. But, in this town, there didn’t seem to be any time for resting. But, he had to keep moving, the police would be moving in once they discovered the bus crash. He was tempted to leave a note somewhere, stating that Anne Cunningham was deceased, fell into a pit too deep to see the bottom of. He had tried to save her, even when she was barking at him to stay back, to put his hands up, when he was slowly approaching her, trying his best. He genuinely wanted to help her.
Two people. He had already seen two people perish since the accident. One on accident, and one on purpose. He felt bad for JP, he caused the death of those kids, yes, it was entirely his fault, but, that didn’t mean he had to jump. Talking him down didn’t affect him at all, his words just bouncing off of the man, before he jumped into Devil’s Pit itself.
He didn’t think this was a good place to be drinking alcohol, so he gazed over at her for a moment, finding it odd that this woman was brazen enough to be drinking in such a dangerous town. But, this town seemed to be full of surprises.
She didn’t seem to concerned about it all, though. Or the fact that he was obviously a prisoner, and, if he was being bused around, a dangerous one at that. Even in his prison jumpsuit, letters and numbers printed onto it in a variety of places, she didn’t once question him. Ask him what he had done, or didn’t seem disgusted or put off by it at all, let alone look like she feared him.
“What’s with this town anyways? It’s full of monsters.”
“No problem,” she said keeping an eye on him now. This man was suspicious. Maybe she was just paranoid. Who knew. Was he looking for someone like James had been? No harm in asking.
“Are you looking for someone?” Maria asked spinning the alcohol in the glass around in a circle. Was it a girlfriend? Himself? A dead wife? Maria had no idea. She couldn’t read people as well as she used to anymore.
“You must be surprised that I’m not asking you more. Like why are you running, or what you did to get in jail,” she said with a chuckle. She downed the rest of glass and stood up. She put it on the bar and walked behind it again keeping her gaze on Murphy. Then he said the line. It sounded so much like James. She tensed up. No. Not like this.
“This town it’s cursed,” she shortly said. She was just imagining that it was like his dialogue. James was gone. James couldn’t be this guy. James was gone. James was gone. James wouldn’t be back here. Why did he have to say that line?
“But I suppose that happens when you burn a little girl almost to death to give birth to your God who also happens to have a great amount of magical abilities,” Maria said explaining more. She learned from Heather what had happened to the town. Originally when she woke up she didn’t. But now she was full on aware. It was awful what they did to her, and they got what came to them. They could rot for all Maria cared.
